I was reading a bunch of post about how much the original DID is better than the DUD. It just didn't make sense to me. With the DUD you can very easily adjust the air hole to your liking. You can sand down the top cap so that the air hole lines up with the wick when tightened. So why is the DID so much better? Yes, they use better material...but that just means it is built to last...not that it will perform better in the short run. The only difference is the wick hole. The DID has 2.8mm wick hole, while the DUD has a 2.5mm wick hole. Could this make such a big difference....in a word...yes.

I drilled the wick hole using a cheap 7/64 drill bit and a regular drill. Just do it using very little pressure and with a lot of patience...so you don't break the bit. You will end up with a 2.8mm hole. Once you get the hole bigger make a new wick as tick as possible and as solid as possible.

The advantages to a ticker wick hole/wick:
1) Much easier to wrap coils and getting the desired ohms.
2) Much easier to adjust the coils so that they are all glowing the same.
3) Better wicking...without needing to do the genesis tilt.
4) In General, just a much more stable coil that needs to be adjusted less frequently
5)Chances of getting hot spots diminish greatly
6) Can use use 30awg and 28awg more easily with greater effect.

The only draw back with a thicker wick is that it will act a bigger heat sink, so you will have to up the voltage. But overall in every other way it performs better.

Just take your time...not hard to do at all....use lubrication.

This post you dug up was written a while ago. Now I use the Petar K method and use unoxidized wicks. With the Petar K method of wrapping coils...you actually lower the wattage a lot...since the coils are barely making any contact with the wick....so the heat sink effect is less. I still like my wicks pretty solid (not super solid) and thick...so I definitely recommend any one who owns a DUD...to bore out the wick hole. Not only will your wick be thicker and wick better...but the positive lead will be much shorter....which means less shorts...and set ups are a lot easier.

Rule62.....you are absolutely correct. Even though I didn't specify like I should have, I was actually comparing it to the mini DID which has a 2.8mm hole. Anyway, boring out the wick hole will make your wicks a little better in wicking and will help make it easier to setting up your DUD. Just like adding washers to the center post of the AgaT will really help people out with their set ups.

I got my short DiD recently. I'm very impressed with the large wick.

I obviously haven't tried all the available high end atomizers...but I have a feeling the DID is the best. I have never heard any one complain of their DID. How does it compare with the other gennies that you have used/owned? Do you keep the fill screw on when vaping?

I have a DiD Short, a couple ZAPs, a Bliss, and several clones, such as AGAs, DiDalikes, Chobras. The most obvious difference between high end and low end is build quality and hardware. But when set up well, performance is comparable.
ZAPs don't even come with a fill hole plug. Nor does the Bliss. Actually, the Bliss has 3 holes in the platform, to allow for U wicks or duals. These holes aren't threaded. The DiD has a nice knurled thumb screw for the fill hole. I've been leaving it in, just because I don't want to lose it; and it wicks fine. I'll probably leave it out eventually, as soon as I figure out a place to put it, where I won't lose it.

SO... it doesn't sound like you have a favorite.

Of the three types of high end units I have, I'd have to say I like the ZAP best. But the DiD is a close second. I like the look of the ZAP on the Provari. I like the Bliss the least. The set up is a bit tight, and it's more prone to leaking, when using a single mesh coil, because of the two open holes. All three are machined beautifully, with nice hardware. I have a Cobra on the way, which I haven't received yet; so I can't give an opinion yet.

I have a couple AGA-Ts. I haven't tried the new T+. But, as for the Chinese units, the AGAs are pretty nice. I de knurled all of mine. I much prefer the look, as opposed to the "high school shop class" heavy knurling.
As for what I said before about the Bliss: It's probably the most versatile of the 3 high end units I have. It's an interesting design. It would lend itself well to U shaped, or silica wicks, because of the extra holes. Interestingly, the top cap has 2 small air holes, instead of the usual 1. Each air hole lines up with the wick holes in the deck. I have mine set up as a genny. So, I plugged the other wick hole with a piece of a wooden match stick.
