Did everyone quit analogs as soon as they got their e cigs?

Im a Fireman that works 48(hrs) on 96(hrs) off schedule and have been smoking for 30 yrs. 1 pk a day, and more when I drink. I got a cheap e-cig from the local smoke shop and it instantly slowed my smoking to when I went to work but I still had cravings(i didnt smoke at home, only at work) so I got the Joye 510. 3 weeks in I still smoke at work and not at home and now that I have a little experience with diff flavors I am getting more and more into the e-cigs and wanting less of the analogs. My advise is to get some snus for the 1st couple days (only for .....iness) to get off analong. Keep in mind that when I started these Nerd Smokes I had no intention of quitting. But now I look at it as though...why not combine my morning smoke with a cup of coffee, Safely.

Hi everyone!

I bought my first PV last summer - an njoy. For the first 5 days I didn't smoke anything but that, which shocked me, because I wasn't trying to quit smoking (I had been a pack a day smoker for about 23 years). Then I think something happened to the e-cig, only I didn't know enough to realize it was an equipment malfunction. So I went back to smoking analogs which I waited for my 510 to arrive. I never really used the 510 for some reason.....until Jan. 5, when I did decide to quit smoking.

It's been almost a month, and I haven't had an analog since I quit, but it has been a conscious decision for me. I am still craving them periodically, and I'm not sure why, but I just vape through the craving. It is still like a miracle to me that the craving is like a very very mild irritant, and it doesn't last very long at all.

I know I can stay quit from analogs with vaping. I never had that feeling when I tried the patch, the gum, Chantix, etc.

I guess only smoking for just under 2 years before switching to vaping makes me have a bit less reliance on the nicotine as opposed to someone who's been smoking for 10+ years, but I stopped right away. Mostly because I just like the feel and action of smoking, and the throat hit!! So getting those three things from the ecig, for me, really wasn't that hard of switch. I went instantly from a pack a day to none the day I got my ecig. Chain smoked the last couple after trying out the 510 and never looked back. I think it just depends what kind of personality you have an just how "hooked" you are on real cigs. I wasn't all that dependent on em, but I'm one of the odd ones who could up and quit cold turkey even before I got my hands on vapers. Anyways to relate to the title, yes, I did quit analogs right away =p

Ok so I'm on day 4 of no smokes I guess and having a bad day. I threw out all my analogs on the first day and havn't even wanted one till now. I smoked almost a pack and a half a day for the last 16 years and I've been doing good. I'm just not getting a good draw off of my 510 today. I can't figure it out and I'm about to cry LoL. I did the PTB mod on all my carts the other day and it seems like I blow through a full cart in like 7-10 draws off of each. Did I do something wrong ? Someone help me before I run out and buy a pack of smokes...

I have bought 3 strengths actually... I have a 24 Ry4 that I'm using now, and I mix some of my own with 36 and flavour. The Ry4 has been great for a couple of days but my 510 just dosnt seem to be giving a good drag today. Could it be the Tea bags ? Do they have to be replaced every couple of days or something ? Thanks for responding so quick too dee.

Hi To510, try using an empty cart and dripping. Just drip 2 or 3 drops on the atomizer, then top up with another 1 or 2 when the vapor gets low. This is what did it for me. I had the same issues as you in my first week, just couldn't get those big clouds of vapour I heard about. It's not an issue now.

I had quit for two weeks before I bought my 510 and started vaping. It was a very difficult time, those first two weeks and I was using the patch and gum. I was headed on vacation to Vegas and knew I would be drinking and knew I couldn't stay away from smokes unless I had a substitute. I only had one, and that was because I ran out of juice on my second last day. I smoked one and regretted it, threw the pack away. Then I discovered snus, on sale in a cool little tin for an intro pack for $2.18! These saved me from smoking.

Good luck and resist that urge! If you can, try a snus.

So, let me start by saying, I smoked for a hard 22 years. My addiction was conceived at the ripe age of 14 during my distinguished career as an east bay rude boy, I am now 36 and basically professional - working as a senior product architect, how the time flies. For the better part of those 22 years I was a pack a day smoker. There was never a day that I did not smoke at least 3 cigarettes. Now if that's not an addiction I don't know what is. There was nothing that could stop me from visiting my addiction, daily; if I went backpacking and I realized no one had cigarettes, I would turn around, no matter how far we had hiked, and, when I was a kid, I would spend my lunch money (even bus fare) on cigarettes and coffee. When I had no money, I would roll tobacco from cigarettes butts, or, as a last resort, I would grab some personal item and sell it off at the flea market, I would squat a stand. Nuff said.

Maybe it was my lifestyle that contributed to my addiction. Most all of my friends smoke, even the folks I didn't know that were "around" smoked, when I'd go out partying it was impossible to deny that cig to compliment that ice cold beverage. And there was that big social scene, where people would gather - smokin' and chatin' it up outside a bar or club, a cigarette was the perfect companion to great conversation. "Hey brah, gotta smoke?"

A big part of it was the ritual aspects. That euphoria in taking that first drag of that first smoke with some freshly brewed coffee - the best, that smooth camel (I was a Camel man) after that delicious meal, the after workout smoke, the after accomplishing the impossible smoke, that great song smoke, the after work smoke. Well you get the picture.

There was also this spiritual quality, where in times of distress I'd pull out a smoke, light up, take a few drags and chaos transformed into clarity. I wouldn't go as far as saying I saw visions, but there was this grounding where I felt slightly separated from the "physical world" and closer to my purpose in it, I gained a better understanding in these little smoking retreats. My greatest ideas and resolves came in these moments

For those 22 years it just seemed normal to smoke, and I never really questioned it. If anything my cig felt like my little buddy, through thick and thin. If I was having a hard time he was there to keep me company and help me through it. If I was bored, well we would just hang out. If a celebration was in order my cig was the first in attendance and the last to leave. Sometimes I would light up a smoke for no reason other then making a great time even better. To make the moment perfect, a smoke had to be in the picture, my cig was never left out.

I'm not sure if I could isolate one distinct thing I liked about smoking, I LOVED everything about smoking. The taste, the way it hit my throat, the oral fixation, that tiny little nicotine buzz (usually only in the morning), the timeouts, the smoke, the social aspects, the support it gave me and yes, even the way it smelled.

And now the reality check, I needed to quit.

My motivations were:
1) Save a couple of bucks
2) Not getting winded going up a few stairs.
3) Wanting to live past 60
4) And for me the most important, my girlfriend Caroline, a non-smoker who has put up with my stench and braved the ashtray mouth for way to many years.

I could not for the life of me (literally) figure out how I could accomplish this seemably impossible feat. I felt I was giving up much more then a physical addiction to nicotine, I was giving up a life.

I am now a non-smoker, going on 2 months without a single cigarette. Here is my badge to prove it.

So how did I do it? How did someone as addicted come to quit?

It started on a Business trip in Atlanta, it just fell on my lap. I was outside the company building deep in one of my smoking moments when I start chatting it up with this guy. We shoot the .... for a bit, then he leads into a conversation about how he wants to quit, he tells me there are a couple of guys in the company smoking these Blu Electronic Cigarettes instead of the "analogs" and he was thinking about giving it a shot. I had never even known these things existed, so he proceeds to break the devise down. Basically, a battery, an atomizer, and a cartridge that contains water, flavor and nicotine (at various strengths). The device looks and feels like a cigarette but it's not, when you inhale the atomizer kicks in and vaporizes the liquid in the cartridge and produces vapor (not smoke) that you inhale. You're smoking but you're not, no tar, no carcinogens, no carbon monoxide, around 10 chemicals instead of 3000+. I was sold, but I have to admit, I was skeptical. So I wished him luck and we went our separate ways.

I went right to my laptop and googled "Electronic Cigarettes", five minutes later I was wrapping up my order. From the information I gathered there was no doubt that e-cigs are an extremely healthier alternative to the real deal, that's all I needed. I would wait for my order to come it and see what this was all about.

5 days later back in my home in Berkeley, it happened, my order was in. It came in a US priority mail package, I tore into it, unwrapping the individual components. I assembled the pieces (battery, atomizer, cart) and prepared for my first hit. It was at that time that I considered having my last analog cig, but it felt like a trap (DON'T DO IT), I declined knowing (really believing) that I was now a non-smoker, this was it, if this device could not get me to quit, nothing would. I took my first drag from the e-cig, and at that moment I knew that I was all good, this was going to work. I thought about throwing out my pack of camels, but I didn't, I recommend you hold on to the pack, not to smoke (of course) but to not smoke for the right reason, because you don't want to, not because you can't. I still have my pack collecting dust in my closet.

Later that night my girlfriend came home and I revealed the news, she was ecstatic, and deep down, I was too.

The weeks that followed were smooth sailing, I thought I would have a hard time with the coffee ritual, but I didn't, the drink at the bar, not a problem, if fact it was better as I could vape inside the bar. I didn't even think about having an analog cig, my e-cig covered all my addictions, both chemical and behavioral (the oral fixation was a big part). My senses (smell and taste) gradually started to come back, I almost felt like I was developing an enhanced human ability, but I knew that was just how normal people taste and smell, I was coming back.

The other benefits that followed were an overall increase in energy, I didn't smell or taste like an ashtray - which made my girlfriend Caroline very happy, and possibly the biggest was increased endurance and stamina - to put it in prospective, I work out religiously, so this was easy to gage, I hit the cardio machine for an hour, before switching to vapor, I maxed out at level 11, two weeks later I was pushing into level 15.

So, that's my story, at the time of writing this I have been a non-smoker for 41 days. I don't even have the slightest urge to smoke an analog. I can't say everyone will share the same experience but there are plenty testimonials online that will testify to the same positive experience.

Now, with that out of the way it's time to have some fun. Vaping, unlike smoking is not just limited to lighting up and puffing away, oh no, there can me much more. Sure you can buy cartridges (carts) and not bother, but where's the fun in that, how can you not make your own delicious recipe, custom made to fit the growing needs of you're new enhance taste buds. I plan to expand this blog to share the wealth of information I have personally collected and applied to making my own custom juices (e-liquids), I will also publish any worthy e-cig articles and a series of post on healthy vaping and health risk.

if you've made it this far, make sure to check back for (instructional/informational) post, tasty juice (e-liquid) recipes and electronic cigarette reviews.

Peace and happy vaping,
Vapor Den

... I do distinctly remember thinking "tastes kinda like taking a hit off a fog machine" but i guess I got used to it.

I still taste that. But it's only been 4 days of vaping so I'm sure it'll go away eventually. Plus I have new ejuice coming my way so maybe the new juice will be stronger in flavor to mask the fog machine taste.

I rolled my own for a long time and when my 510 showed up I took a few puffs and threw out everything.... the roller, the ashtray, the tobacco, the papers. I do distinctly remember thinking "tastes kinda like taking a hit off a fog machine" but i guess I got used to it.

I finished off the pack I had, then switched to my 510. I had the same experience of the "fog machine" taste, but after vaping for a while, I prefer it to analogs. As you know I sometimes smoke an analog, but once I get rid of these junk batteries, problem should be solved :D

Look into "Blue Foam Mod". I dripped for this same reason until I tried this mod. I get big hits until the cart is completely dry using this mod. Its just as good as dripping without the hassle.(I cant drip and drive lol)

Well it's oonly been a few days for me now, but have been thinking very POSITIVE about not having to return to analogs. I feel u have to think positive to over come such an ingrained habit as I had with smoking. Its been alot of years just to be able to sit them down cold turkey. Tried that and failed many times, but with the vaping it gives me a much needed positive boost that I have needed for a long time. I hate analogs. I have for a long time, but I love nicotine. So this is working for me and what really helps is knowing that Im not hurting myself like I was not to mention I dont stink and have bad breath anymore. Keep positive and think of all the bad things analogs do to u when u get the thought on picking one up. We know we will feel better after a few deep vaps anyways!!!!

I am new to ecf and to vaping. Actually this is my first post. I recieved my starter kit from V4L 23 days ago. It has been 21 since I had an analog. I believe it would have been 23 days with no analogs had I figured this out sooner.... the craving for a cigg never goes away! I fell in love with my pv right away but still craved analog (so I thought) about 20 minutes later. So I vaped some more. 20 minutes later guess what? Craving a cigg again! After a while I finally gave in and had an analog. 1 on the first day and same on second. That last 1 tasted horrible!! I realized I would have preferred to vape. I have not had 1 since....
The point I'm trying to make is that I confused a nicc craving with an analog craving. All my body really wanted was some nicc. I upped my mg to 24 and I am loving life. With no analogs I still get to enjoy my fix but my appetite is back, I have more energy, and I'm sleeping better. And oh yeah.....my kids are SUPER proud of me! After 16 years I'm finally done with analogs.
I know everyone's addiction is different but just thought I'd warn you not to make the same mistake I did. Good luck on your vaping and don't give up!!!!

Yeth.

Unexpectedly.

I feel bad because I am not suffering and have no hardship to milk. People congratulate me, which is embarrassing because it's like being congratulated for enjoying a nice tall margurita, or they snarkily say, "Well, you haven't really QUIT, it's still SMOKING", which I resent on general principle.

But I am totally blissed out. The dog likes me better. I have spent a gazillion dollars, virtuous shopping is excellent. There are no dead cigarettes in my cereal bowl. (I was a DISGUSTING smoker.) I can put "does not smoke" in Match.com and attract a whole new level of creep. They're pretty and nice to handle. (The egics, not the creeps.) I feel wonderful.

But no one feels sorry for me. Weep.

I was trying to quit before I got my first PV. I had been using the gum for about a month with mediocre success. I haven't had a cigarette (or any nicotine gum) since my first PV arrived three months ago.

It did take me a couple of weeks to figure out what nicotine level works best for me. I started too high, dropped too low, and eventually settled somewhere in the middle.

;)

I really didn't know if I could quit, and just vape. But it was worth the try. So I haven't had an analog since ... I can't even say whether it was Christmas, or New Years. Unlike quitting in times past -- and I have done it several time -- I can't say to the hour when I last had a cigarette.
Let us just say six weeks. Vaping paid off big time when my husband was recently hospitalized for 8 days. No one at the hospital even noticed my e-cig and it got me through the tough times that would have sent me to stand in the cold.
I should say, that the first week I had my first e-cig...not my Joye510...I finished up a pack of Pall Mall at the rate of two a day. But when the Joye came, that was that...6 weeks or so ago.
Even if you use analogs like I did at first ... just a couple a day, that is a world better than full time. There is something addictive in analog beyond nicotine...count on it.

I agree. In the beginning I had some analogs while I was adjusting to the e- cig. Now, I can't stand analogs. I tried a puff off one a while back and almost tossed my cookies! There has to be something in them that makes you think you like them, LOL. Anyhow, I've saved a billion gajillion dollars and I can breathe better. I smell better, and life is good again!

I made a plan to quit after smoking analogs for 46 years and never got tired of it loved to smoke, I researched the e-cigs and ordered and quit the day after they arrived. For me I knew that if I didn't put down the analogs I wouldn't quit. Today I have 1 year off analogs and I am damn proud of it...

I am still smoking e-cigs and will eventually make a plan to quit those, I'm just not there yet. But 1 year off analogs:thumbs: has made my life very different, food tastes different, not 1 cough and most of all my clothes and breath don't smell like a cigarette.

Make a plan and give it a try you can always go back to analogs. One thing for sure I definitely spent a lot less money :)than I would have smoking analogs.

I got my Joye 510 E-cig on Friday. I haven't quit my Analogs yet, but I am down by at least 2/3rds. I really hadn't planned on quitting analogs, I thought this would be a good "supplement" to them, but I'm thinking I might be able to give them up, after 30+ years of smoking, this seems real hopeful :) I am very pleased with myself.

I went off the deep end after reading some threads, and have placed orders with both Tasty Vapors and Mrs. T's to try something other than the tobacco flavors I received. I think this will help as well.

Good luck to all :)
