All I have is a 650 smok vv twist. Will I be fine with the ego USB I just got from them today (they pulled it out of the ce4 starter kit) and the wall converter they have in stock for that setup? That really is the final question there.

Thanks all
YES

The wall wart from the vape shop for $5 is most likely the same wall wart from the convenience store for a dollar. Your best bet is to go to Walmart, Best Buy or the Cellular sore and picking up a 2A USB converter.

Nothing wrong with using the one for your Iphone. The Guy at the Vape shop gave you bad information.

Your 650ma battery should only take 2 hours to charge with an ego charger. It shouldn't take hours upon hours, your old wall wart was probably underrated.

You can use the usb port on your computer. But you are risking damaging the computer port if something should go wrong with the charger.

instead me trying to derail the thread with "attacking" posts...

Def, I didn't take your post as an attack. I just wanted to explain that I was trying to give him more detailed info on how charging Lithium batteries works. Trust me when I say that I fully understand how confusing it can be to those that are new to them. I've witnessed large LiPos ignite and it's scary as hell. You can't put them out...you just have to make sure that aren't near anything that will catch fire if/when they do.

LOL! That looks like my setup earlier in the week when I realized that I didn't get a little charger for my 18650 batteries.

And this is the 24V 1400W supply setup I built for it

Thanks guys. That cleared so. Things up. Hey thanks for showing me those specs I guess 2 hours is not bad. I am using my phone to respond to these and Everytime I go to respond it quotes a ton of responses for no reason I'm not using the quote button at all and I have to take ten minutes to delete it before I post. If it keeps it up I probably won't respond anymore. Thanks again.

Nothing in my post is
contradictory and, IMHO, it's better information for n00bs than "use what came with your battery". A lot of stores just throw a generic 45A 510 charger in with the battery and it's not necessarily the one the manufacturer recommends. The key part of my post was where I said "The key to being safe is looking up the specifications of your battery, taking note of not only the voltage rating, but what the recommended charge rates are." If you want n00bd to be safe with Lithium batteries, then the first step is to teach them about how they work. Trust me went I say that these batteries are nothing compared to what we deal with in the RC world. People's houses and cars have burned to the ground from the Lithium batteries we use due to unsafe practices. I am extremely aware of the danger, I'm extemly safe when charging them, and the last thing I would do is give out incorrect information about safe practices. If I wasn't, then I wouldn't have invested close to $1,000 into my charging setup.

Yes, you're fine with that for a 650mAh battery. The charging setup I have is for my RC batteries which need a much higher output, but I also use it for single ell batteries when it makes sense. It's just a high-end charging setup that has a lot of options. It even graphs out the charge cycles so you can see what is going on with the health of the batteries.

Here's an example of a graph of a healthy 3 cell LiPo

And a graph of a 3 cell LiPo that is in pretty bad shape.

You can see the difference in how it raises in voltage throughout the charge and the IR is really bad in the 2nd set of graphs.

instead me trying to derail the thread with "attacking" posts - to the OP, can you post a picture of ALL the items you have and trying to charge?

ego-fast-usb-charger.jpg

as long as you use this charger (which should have came with your ego kit) to charge your ego, it should not matter what style of wall wart you use. just do NOT plug it into your usb port of your computer/laptop.

a picture of a generic wall wort.

Yup it's doing it still. See. What the ****

That is caused my the "Multi-Quote This Message" link on the lower right of each post.
If you accidentally touch it, it tags the message for quoting the next time you reply; if you tag another message, then it quotes both messages

You're probably unintentionally touching the link when you scroll on your phone.

Thanks. I really like to hear ppl say they did it with no issues. That picture of the battery exploding is crazy. So some here say it's fine and some say I am lucky to have eyebrows still. The back of the iPhone converter, which is NOT a walmart one is the original that came with the iPhone (I would think an iPhone original wal converter would be the same sold at walmart) says 100-240 volts and the USB for the ecig says 5 volts for the input.

100-240 is the input ac volt range of the wall charger iphone or no.
if it has an usb port to connect devices to it is compatible, period.

mike

concerning any wall mounted usb ported power supplys.
the standard ouput is 5 volts,500 ma or more.
devices such as chargers are generally rated 5 volts,
480 ma or less.
so called fast charge chargers and batteries are just a wall charger
with a higher amperage rating coupled with a charger that still runs at 5 volts
but has a higher amperage rating to the battery which can be
charged at a higher amperage than 5v,420 ma any way.
any device with a female usb port is compatible with any device that uses
a male usb connector to obtain a charge.
mismatches in power ratings just cause a lack or increase in efficiency.
it may take longer or shorter periods of charging time.the batteries where already
quite capable of handling the charge rates already.
worse case scenario is you'll load down the circuit to a point no useful work can be done.

mike
