That was an eye-opener for me. I recognized that I probably smelled like smoke at least a little bit, but I never realized just how strong that smell is to nonsmokers. I was sitting in class a week or so after I quit, and I could tell just by smell who smoked as they walked in the door (from about 10 feet away).

I continue to have the same experience. Just passing people on the sidewalk, I can tell they'd recently had a cigarette. Quite the eye opener really.

Not only did we all smell like that, you get to notice what the world around you smells like too! :)

This is what I noticed, more than anything. I expected to start to smell smoke/smokers. No-one warned me that the world stinks, too. Every town has a smell, and every person has a smell. If someone had told me the worst part of stopping smoking was the smell, I'd probably never have even tried to quit.

The world stinks.

EDIT: You start to get used to it

I've switched to vaping full time for about a month now and yes, I can smell a smoker a mile away. My 2 roomies are still smoking (I'm trying to convert them) but they stink when they come back inside (luckily we never smoked inside.) If I go out with them while they smoke I can't stand the smell at all any more.

I was having an issue with my vivi nova about 2 weeks ago and succumbed to having a cig...I couldn't finish it. I don't miss smoking at all.

My truck reeks. I never knew that until 2 weeks ago. Smells like an old ashtray.

I know I must have smelled awful.

Get some extra strength Febreeze. I used it in my car, you can still smell the smoke but it isn't nearly as bad. The worst part is trying to scrub tar off of all of the glass and the dash, that's most of the smell

yup the smell is very noticable to me now as well.

to fix the in-car smoke smell i have a very easy solution for you:

clean windows/dash and vaccuum the best you can then leave a fresh apple that is cut in half face up so you dont get sticky apple juice on your center console inside with the windows closed overnight. next morning there wont be any smoke smell left. worked like a charm for my stinky car

Definitely going to give this a try.

my wifes sister came over a couple days ago and smoked a cig in my backyard. She then proceeded to try to me be nice and she knocked the cherry off and through it in my trash can in the kitchen.

It reeked so bad I literally dug through the trash to find it so I could dispose of it.

Never would have done that when I was a smoker.

IT WAS BAD.

But it was the thought that counts I suppose ;p

Last time I was at the dentist getting teeth pulled it was nice hearing the assistant during her warnings about things not to do right after extractions say "yeah no drinking out of straws for 24 hours and ummm you're not a smoker right so that doesn't matter so ......"
Within a week or two of dropping the smokes I noticed while driving I could smell someone smoking in a vehicle 5 car lengths ahead of me.

A friend who I haven't seen for a while walked up to me this week, she's a smoker, and yeah, that smell was pretty bad.

I certainly don't blame people who have never smoked who have always found that odor offensive. I really can't blame them.

Back in the day, they used to allow people to smoke at the office in workplaces. I can now truly appreciate what suffering that must have been for the non-smokers.

Yeah my wife is happy also. And yes I have the same reaction. But I don't want to ..... about it because I smoked for so long.

I can smell so many thing now. Amazing. I worked in a spice warehouse for a couple of days and it was religious experience. Downside, I can pretty much fart myself out of a room now. I wear overalls to work when it is cold and they trap the stink inside and the only escape is up.
Also, wife has semi bad breath sometimes.
