    Now that I know what to do to my Sirens to be able to keep the juice on the inside of the tank, I like them even more. I am lucky I guess, as I can read into a thread enough to see if an atomizer, or mod, will be right for me before I even buy it, and thought that the Siren filled that bill so I bought into it, and now glad that I did.

    When I was trying to decide between the KayFun and the Lemo V1, I read almost all of the Lemo thread before I made my decision, as I had already been reading up on the Kayfun's (clones that is) and knew enough about them at that point in time. I decided on the Lemo, as in my opinion, the Lemo V1 would serve me and my style of vaping better than the KayFun would and had not read about any glaring shortcomings associated with the Lemo (everyone it seemed, was drilling out their KayFuns to get better air flow) that would make me regret buying it. All I had to do was get my coil building and wicking method down and it has served me very nicely. The Lemo V1 was my first RTA, and at that point coil building and wicking were very new to me, so I had a lot to learn. It took some time to get everything down correctly to make the Lemo perform as it was intended, but I stayed at it and was rewarded for my dedication to task.

    The only vape gear that I made a mistake with in buying, was the Merlin RTA by Augvape, I bought to soon, and was rewarded for my impatience with a leaky atomizer. Had I waited a bit longer and read up on it more thoroughly I would have read about the folks (ones that were much better versed in building than I was at the time) that were having leaking issues (the same that I was having) and that they later concluded that it was the fault of the factory (badly press fitted parts) for not putting out a consistent product, as those that were found to be leaker's by the more experienced builders could not be made not to leak. I had one of those Merlin's unfortunately. I had bought too soon, and paid the price.

    I have also learned which reviewers to give credence to, as so many are Big Power, Big Air, Direct Lung, Big Clouds folks that have absolutely nothing in common with the way that I vape, and their reviews show it. The best reviewer that I have found that has vaping tendencies similar to me is PBusardo, as he is a Loose MTL vaper (at least I consider him to be), but will at least cover those aspects of a RTA/RDA/Clearo that pertain to those of us that like a Tight MTL experience (you know, Tootle Puffers, there, I said it;)), the majority of reviewers Don't. PBusardo is not a perfect reviewer by any means, but, his opinions are the most pertinent (for me) of all the reviewers that I have seen. He covers more ground in his reviews than just about any reviewer out there, along with Danial at DJLsb Tech (but there again, Danial is a Direct Lung Hitter) so not Germain to my style of vaping. I use reviews from DJLsb for mainly mods, and PBusardo's reviews for atomizers, each have their place when I am looking at a piece of vape gear to buy.

    I didn't mean for this to go on and on but, I did it again. Sorry for the Book folks.
    Perfectly well said 52!

    The SER v4 smaller bore airflow pin was too tight, so I drilled it out to 2.5mm and now the complete airpath is looser (to suit me) - to be fine tuned with the AFC ring.... it could be fine for others as it is...

    the other wider pin that comes with it was a bit loose at ~3mm, so I plugged that up with some silicone tubing, which was OK but not perfect.

    ~~

    The Hussar had a few little quirky small things...

    the top fill, original top cap, juice flow control, the ability to flood when rapid filling...
    easy to wick but must be done with a certain level of precision, you can`t just throw the wicks in...
    just small things that can be overlooked and avoided with patience and care but together they made me question whether I needed to put up with it.

    It doesn`t take much to invoke the red mist when it comes to atomisers, so I simply walk away and stay calm :)

    The SER v4 however, I have found to be comparatively OK so just ordered another while they`re on the "flash sale" on gearbest
    (I needed to fiddle with the airflow pins to check before investing time/money in another.)

    The overall airpath is very smooth & quiet + proper MTL capable, it`s appearance is quite understated and I can topfill without touching the AFC or the JFC
    (ticked all my critical boxes for an atomiser)

    One annoying thing about it is that the o-ring under the top cap sometimes comes out of place but I think a replacement might have cured that...

    When I take it off the mod, the AFC/JFC can move out of place (irritating rather than critical) but they are easily moved back.

    So the SER was the preferred one from the recent test of a few - I`m glad to have found one rather than dispose of them all.
    So really the exercise was a success if you think of it that way !

    If i`m looking for something specific with details, I`ll check out the non-english speaking reviews and just turn the sound off.

    Sometimes you can see what you need to know without a commentary - there was a German reviewer who did some intricate closeups, NavyLifeguard (iirc ?)...and others.

    NavyLifeguard is the one that devised that special way of wicking that was named after him, so I have heard of him, and know of that style of wicking (it was all the rage a while back).

    The only thing that I see that would trip up the fix that Fad discovered is if the bottom surface of the positive block is not machined completely flat (too many irregularities in the surface might let juice under it), then we would have to take sand paper and a flat surface to even it out.

    I had a Vapage VMod XL when they first came out (whenever that was) I didn`t get on with it...

    It really wasn`t funny at all, this is the reason I need clear tanks only, so I can check the juice level instantly - I do it subconsciously most of the time.

    now if someone could make a really smart design for a 'side by side' while keeping those dimensions very tight, that would be interesting.

    Ahh, yes. The VMODS. From the get-go, me, too.

    For a side by side, Fad.... have you not looked at the B Box or the XVO? If so, your thoughts? Even the "lowly" Rolo has its place as an almost SBS.

    (Pics on request)

    Kat & I vaped nothing but blister packs until about 18 months ago (?), then moved to KF v2L+, which are fairly straightforward.

    To be honest, the Siren is about the first thing we might have wrestled with, but I can't be bothered. I like it a lot, and vape it daily, but it never leaves my desk (due to possibility of wetting itself). I treat my Nebula Wines the same, and like them a lot too.

    My O&A stuff is all fiddle-free (Egg Rolls, KFs, & Billet Boxes w/coils).

    Everything has its place (for me), and I enjoy them all at different times, and under different circumstances.

    The more I use the Egg Rolls (Ego One Mega v2 Lite or whatever it is), the more I like them. I was a slow adopter, but I'm really seeing their value as I continue to use them.

    So true and so perfectly stated, DPL. The eGo twist was the first "game changer", but the Egg Rolls for me have been the REAL game changer. A pop in coil that has the ability to be rewicked/recoiled (with EASE) is just what the KDoctor ordered!! Had this been around pre-deeming and pre-KayFun Kraze, we may have never got the koil kurler and wire and fluffy wicky stuff!!!!!

    have you not looked at the B Box or the XVO?

    The names alone don`t immediately conjure up any images at all - I will investigate !

    edit: I recognise the XVO stick now, I didn`t realise it was a DNA chipset (I get along with those)
    but I knew why I didn`t check it out at the time - the fire button is too low.

    Thanks Kat - an image paints a thousand words..

    I searched for B Box and saw some mech thing - now I realise it`s a Billet Box :sleep:

    I never did go for one of those at the time they first appeared - I can`t remember why.
    (maybe it was the fact they used cartomisers which are a bit too tight for me these days)

    Edit:
    Skipped through the 1st vid I saw of the Rev 4 by Ruby Roo - she needs to get that throat checked out by a doctor, that 'vocal fry' affectation was disturbing to an extreme degree, unless she does actually have throat cancer in which case I apologise in advance.

    It all came back to me looking at some older images, changing the wattage from inside without much control, 2x16350, cartos, filling via a rubber plug (?)

    I`ll have to see what they`ve done to them since.

    Edit 2: and....it seems quite a bit !
    + can fit a kanger RBA in there and others via adapters
    + 18650
    + easier slide fill
    + button wattage control

    didn`t check the dimensions (ed. it`s 54mm deep) - it`s a fine line between going too deep vs. going too high
    I hold my devices for prolonged periods of time, chain vaping, so ergonomics are maybe more critical to me than it might for others.

    - the button is too low and in the "wrong" place for my left handed thumb press;)
    I can almost rule it out now unfortunately.

    No AFC ?
    Would have liked a tool-less option for that threaded anchoring ring at the top - that got my hackles up just watching them use a coin.

    The Billet Box has certainly come on in leaps and bounds though from the 1st ones !

    Wow, for someone who doesn't (yet?) own a B Box, you sure nailed quite a number of valuable points! Were it not past my bewitching hour (post midnite now), and were I not kwite so sleep-walky, I think I would respond to each of your points in kind.

    Perhaps tomorra.

    I would never encourage or DIScourage anyone to get the Billet Box, but I will say that amongst the many fine mods I've had the pleasure and honour of owning and using over the years, this particular one will sit high on the shelf of award winners. I've had the beginning model (Rev 1.1) to the more current Rev 4. ALL amazing devices, and yes, with many subtle nuances and some overt changes over the years. I actually happen to prefer the Rev 3, with its little dual 16340 batt set up and the oh-so-kool voltage dial.

    I haven't listened to the Roo in some time. Might you link me to her vocal fry vid? (that's a pet peeve of mine, only dwarfed by uptalk). :rolleyes:

    PS....... AFC is easy peasy - just cover the air holes with a hand/couple of fingers, or even a bit of tape inside.
    The brass ring at the top is normally not used by many any more. There are all in one screw in drip tips as an option.

    Do what I do Fad, just raise your arm up a few inches (or in your case CM's) and the button will be just where you expect it to be.;)

    Still hammering the SERv4 today, just this one atomiser on its own and not one single drop of seepage has appeared, I`ve filled several times and it holds quite a bit (haven`t measured how much)

    I don`t want to tempt fate - but better to go awry sooner than later ;)

    Didn`t bother closing airflow or juice control off, simple to fill, no squeeging of juice blobules out of the cap either - I have not needed to use a tissue after filling or wash my hands, so quite frankly I am pleasantly surprised by it.

    I didn`t really give it a thorough going over when I first got it as I was trying to get to grips with the others and give those a shakedown first

    Admittedly, the SERv4 was the one I felt most at ease building and using out of them all initially so set it aside while I battled with the ones that seemed to need more attention.

    \the replacement o-ring under the fill cap has stayed in place, just needed to be slightly tighter than the supplied one.

    OK, I will tempt fate....
    From the way this has been behaving itself over the short time I`ve been using it, if someone offered to swap out all my Sirens for these - I would.

    ~~~~~
    Just before TV catch up time, I decided to break this down and check it before a quick rebuild for rebuilding`s sake.
    Inside there was very little condensate, no more than you would expect from any similar atomiser.
    Considering how much juice I`ve put through it over last night and all of today it was remarkable.
    I also changed the default larger bore airpin back into it to compare.
    It`s a slightly restricted DTL amount of air fully open and adequate but kinda/sorta loose MTL almost closed.
    The smaller bore airpin would likely suit tighter MTL users
    (the one I drilled out so obviously forgot to measure that bore at the time)
    {FYI - You can access the deck while the tank is full - and a 2.5mm coil allows enough wick to be sufficient}
    I rebuilt it in fading daylight and managed without needing extra light - it`s very simple to build and wick.
    I`ll probably have a leak now after shoving the rayon in willy nilly :)
    I was very hesitant about the Xvo button, back when we first took the dive. I vape ambidextrous, but ALWAYS thumb-fire. Well, I USED to ALWAYS thumb-fire, and still do on everything except the Xvo.
    Within an hour I realized it was the best button placement in the industry (for me). Held in either hand (no rhyme or reason for me switching), my ring finger is in perfect position. Most comfortable mod in the world, and the button placement is a big reason why. I had NO idea going in though, and felt exactly like you do now.
    AWESOME mod (if 23 or 24mm) is enough for a person. The older ones (like Kat and I have) are 23mm. The new DNA60 is 24mm.
    Like everything else though, these things are personal. :)
    The most cherished XVO can also be flipped around and used as a trigger fire! I actually use it that way often. I place the fire button into my palm, and squeeze that thang. It's most marvelous.
    That's a good point, and I forgot about it. You don't even need to plan it - just pick it up and squeeze. Fires perfect every time.
    With it's rounded body, it's tough to not fall in love with it once you've tried one.
    In other words, that button is deceivingly brilliant.
    Since I now have my 22mm Siren fixed, I thought I'd try a new experiment with it. I put in a completely new build and wicking. I used 30g twisted Kanthal A-1 with a KGD/Rayon wick. I've been thinking about doing a Hybrid wick for a long time, just never got around to doing it, so, here's how I made it:
    WARNING !! This is a fiddly operation to do, but, I can run about 15 to 20 tank fulls thru my Siren KGD builds before I need to replace them, and at about 4ml consumption per day I can get a fair bit thru each build, so the possible gain is worth the effort to me.
    1) Laid out a width of KGD (in my case a 10mm wide strip in a 3mm ID coil)
    2) Took about ¼ the thickness off of the KGD strip and replaced it with Rayon
    3) positioned the new Hybrid wick so that the Rayon was on top when inside the coil
    4) separate the KGD from the Rayon
    5) ran the KGD down into the wick slot and cut it to just below the wick deck, then glued it to the slot with a drop or two of juice
    6) laid the Rayon back on top of the KGD and cut it to just above the bottom of the base of the tank section then laid it into the wick slot and glued it in with another drop or two of juice
    7) put the Siren back together, fill, and vape
    I'm using this Hybrid wick in my Siren 22 as I type.
    The Question. Why would I do such a thing ?? I use the KGD more as a filler for the wick slots and the Rayon as a delivery system for the juice. The KGD to seal off the wick slots to keep the leaking into the deck portion from happening, and the Rayon to transfer the juice to the coil and KGD, plus, I can thin the Rayon below the deck more than the KGD could be thinned and still get good juice transfer up to the coil and KGD wick above the deck, so less wick in the tank and more juice, and I hope, even better flavor from the Rayon.
    BTW, I'm using a 60/40 PG mix in my Siren 22mm and no seepage even with this Hybrid wicking.
    Absolutely !
    I can`t see how this would fail - the best of both worlds.
    A ready to buy bag of pre mixed & brushed fibres sounds like a great idea, in a rayon-like 'worm'
    (not a matted mess of rayon tops)
    60% rayon - 40% cotton (?)
