Complete with scary music and grave concern for the children. Both March 23rd videos etc. at links:

Tonight At 6 | NBC4i.com

CENTRAL OHIO—A new product in local stores gives smokers nicotine without the smoke.

For a kid, though, it may be and easier introduction to a nicotine addiction.

Dissolvable tobacco. NBC 4 exposes why tobacco companies are targeting Central Ohio.

Dissolving Tobacco Hits Columbus Test Market | NBC4i.com

COLUMBUS, Ohio—A new product that’s advertised as cold, fresh and refreshing is hitting the Columbus market and it sounds like a soft drink or gum.

But, it’s not gum and doctors think what’s in it could kill you, NBC 4‘s Colleen Marshall reported.

Columbus is a test market for the product—dissolvable tobacco—little orbs, sticks and tiny pouches that dissolve in your mouth.

... the tobacco companies will tell you the new products are alternatives to cigarettes and for smokers who can no longer light up in public, they offer relief.

But, state health officials said they do have anti-smoking programs.

“We have our quit line, many grants to hospitals through our community grant program and also do enforcement of smoke free Ohio,“ said Dr. Alvin Jackson, director of the Ohio Department of Health.

Oh yes, and why is it always about "The Children." Look at this completely absurd video from some deluded parent at Good Housekeeping:

ON WHAT PLANET CAN 12 YEAR OLD KIDS PLUCK TOBACCO PRODUCTS FROM A CANDY DISPLAY NEXT TO THE TIC-TACS? Oh yes, we MUST protect our children from something that only exists in the fantasies of some neurotic housewife.

It's because parents seem to have forgotten how to watch their children. It's much more convenient to plop your kids in front of their computers/video games and toss them a big mac.

Whatever happened to playing outside! I remember growing up and loving to play with the neighborhood kids...but you rarely see that anymore -.- Why should the parents watch their kids when they can just let their own kids roam free and then sue/place the blame on something else for the way their kid acts. It must be the video games!

Oh yes, and why is it always about "The Children." ...

Because marketing says it will be a "tear jerker" and everyone will immediately and completely agree (buy) what they are selling without ever another thought.

Having researched this some, it has become my #1 turn off. Bring that up and I don't care if it was god giving me the universe, my answer is and will remain *NO*.

Why? Research it yourself and see how often the children actually are the target or get anything out of it and how often it is just a pure manipulation tool for what someone wants to push (that wouldn't stand up for any other "reason")..

Money flow diagram is a more useful tool :). If something doesn't make sense, just dig out the money flow diagram tool and it seems it never fails to point to what is really going on :).

Nothing new, the Romans had a phrase for it "Que bono" (who benefits). My Latin spelling is probably off, but it sounds like it :).

NOW I'M MAD. Jamie knows I depend on Stonewall Java dissolvable tobacco pellets even more than I do e-cigs and snus. These are first in my mouth when I wake up, and follow every meal.

It was only a matter of time before the huge squeeze play on nicotine addicts would impact my beloved dissolvables. Our opponents want us GONE. Dead or a quitter, they don't care. Just be gone with you! No more tobacco or nicotine anything.

FYI: Star Scientific, a small Virginia company, makes Stonewall and Ariva from compressed natural Virginia tobaccos. It's done so for about four years. Camel is now crowding in, after Star Scientific proved the market profitable. Arrrrrrgh.

Yeah I do, and was kinda surprised you didn't jump on this one yesterday. ;)

I specifically wrote the topic "under attack" because I don't think it's a coincidence that all these OMG reports have been suddenly appearing. With the tax increase right around the corner and big pharma budget planning for their boom, it's not accidental, and it's not because someone 'just noticed' Ariva and an SE kiosk. These groups are organized and many of the reports, even at blogs and places like Associated Content, have the ring of plant material.

I'm not dumping a conspiracy theory, they ARE organized, the groups and pharma corps have reps with national and international anti organizations with regular conferences and classes on denormalization and ban campaigns, grassroots action chains, professional p.r... Their websites are very detailed.

We'd be seeing more of their work if not for the economy.

Actually, I didn't see it yesterday, Jamie. And I spent today trying to put together a where-we-are, where-we're-going and what-manufacturers-could do post, only to see my posts disappear under a torrent of other threads.

No, it doesn't seem coincidental that all this is happening at the same time. But I really thought any ban on e-cigs and harm reduction alternatives would at least wait until a month or two after the April 1 tax increase. Look at Hong Kong. It raised tobacco tax, then promptly banned e-cigs and arrested some sellers.

Looks like we'll do the same. Now that's a sad commentary. We are being herded into one pasture -- cigarettes -- and those will be outrageously taxed, altered to be less desirable, banned in all public places, with users shamed into demon status, killers of babies and pets, pathetic addicts who are the major health problem in the nation.

It's all coming together now. FDA to ban alternative free market nicotine delivery system. Congress readies FDA takeover of tobacco control. Huge tobacco tax increase will fund children's health care, which has nothing to do with smoking and smoking-related health problems.

Our opponents have millions to spend for propaganda, the ears of elected officials they've generously contributed to, and virtually every major health organization on their side. We have .. a petition .. and rants on a board.

Ahhh... propaganda.... nothing like a fresh dose of propaganda force fed to me each and every moment of my life :D ...gotta love it. And yeah... we "alternative smokers" are about as important to these people as tribes in the jungles of Africa. Without money we are nothing. So yeah I RANT.... and I'll always rant.... because that is all I have. .... THE SYSTEM.
