So, new question... I know I can google this but I don’t want many opinions but ones I trust. Doing flavor test with the creamy types, do you have to steep to get the true profile. My first instinct is "of course”, but I want to be sure and not just assume. Thanks in advance:)

Yup; they require time to fully develop. How much time can vary greatly depending on the specific concentrate, how much is being used, how it is being used (primary, accent, or adjunct roll), and personal preference. That is why I still like to do some taste testing during the aging process... especially with flavors I am unfamiliar with.

I almost chucked a tobacco concentrate because I mixed it, and forgot about it for a month, thinking the commonly preached "all tobaccos need at least a month." I got it out and tried it at 4½ weeks. It was pretty unpleasant to my palate. I couldn't figure out why, because it had many strong reviews, by folks I know share similar palates to mine. I set the concentrate aside to pass along, did a bit more research to see if I had done something wrong, and came across a few reviews that said they preferred it with only a three day steep. I mixed up another batch (exactly the same); but followed my usual "new concentrate" testing habits (tasting immediately after mixing, 24hrs later, 48hrs after that, and then once a week until the mix no longer changes). Doing that; I discovered I loved the mix anywhere from 3 days old, up until about two weeks... after that it moves outside my wheelhouse.

@FranC @dc99 @IDJoel ,
Thanks for confirming and taking the time to assist! Also, @IDJoel , I’m learning now about how mixes can be great for a few weeks then after that wk 4 steep... what happened to that bold promising flavor? LOL
You guys are all great though! I never doubt like I do when googling answers:thumbs:

Always glad to help. I have had quite a few get bad with time but I have never had a bad one get good with time.
I haven’t really had enough recipe mixing experience yet to really comment much on this topic but I can say that when flavor testing unicorn puke, I was disgusted by it initially. Then after a few days it was a different flavor all together for me. Though I still have much to learn!

Thanks for taking the time to round up those links! That site confuses me for some reason. I spent a week trying to figure this out, so I really appreciate it! I’ll let ya know when it gets here.

You’re welcome but truly @dc99 is the one who walked me through this one and provided me with those links. I just put them together in one message. This was my first RDA purchase. It’s great IMO for flavor testing but I wouldn’t recommend this particular one for ADV or anything. It’s too small and you’d be constantly dripping. Though, like I said, it’s perfect for my intended purpose. dc99 gets props there!:thumbs:

Testing is all I need it for, so it ought to be exactly what I was looking for.

I haven’t tried any new flavors in over a year, but I just ordered a bunch and found several recipes. I’m so excited to get started!

I’m still finding my footing but I’m so glad I decided to do this. It really is exciting and rewarding!

Back again with yet another question, lol! So I had a conversation with a stranger earlier who uses distilled water or saline solution in place of PG due to sensitivity and taste issues (like me). So I was thinking about trying this until I was advised against it by someone else a few minutes ago. He believes putting excess water on the lungs
could lead to pneumonia or infection. I’d love to hear others opinions on this! Also, any advice on other PG alternatives will be appreciated. I don’t recall the name but @stols001 mentioned a PG alternative a few weeks ago. How’d it work out for you? Thanks all in advance!

Anna uses PEG400 but I will let her do all the answering of questions on that since I have never tried it.

Water has a higher boiling point that pg/vg therefore the vape would get really hot before any vapor, if any, was even produced. A saline solution can be added to pg/vg but I would use that in place of DW if I were going to use any at all.

As far a getting water on the lungs, it really won't produce much vapor to even inhale so I would really suggest not even trying it. Too much heat---you could burn yourself or your lips and I just kinda see that as a no go. Just my 2 pennies.

Sounds like sound advice. Thanks!
