Flavoring percentages and pg/vg ratios are personal preference oriented and so not for us to say, but many use something along those lines.

You don't have to taste your base before adding flavors, but it's a good idea to do, so you know how it tastes and that there's nothing wrong with it that could effect the final mix.

Instead of dw, people use wodka or pga and some use saline also... (besides of course regular pg :) )

You're welcome!

As for menthol crystals, then I believe you normally first make a 10% solution in PG(or alchohol), meaning 1g menthol crystals to 10ml pg/alchohol, and then shake hard after holding under warm tab water for a bit. When disolved, it's finished. This solution you use as menthol flavoring in your final mixes, at whatever percentages you preffer, I've read before one uses 5% for a light menthol flavor, but dunno myself...

My best suggestion for you, toinktape, would be to do LOTS of reading on this forum before going much further with your mixing. With some flavorings/manufacturers, 15-20% flavoring would be WAY too much. With other flavorings/manufacturers, it might be just right. Read, read, read.

I just started a couple weeks ago also & I agree I only use 8% flavoring I tried 10% & was way to strong I do not use water or substitute
why do people cut the mixture?

Here's some good reading

My blogs will give insight into all aspects of DYI, from steeping to what supplies to have on hand to a basic walk through mixing your first E-juice.

E-Cigarette Forum - dannyv45 - Blogs

Then read hoosier's blogs. These blogs concentrate on fine tuning your mix and give insight on additives.

Then read Boletus's blog's. These blogs concentrate on formulation of nicotine bases regarding proper calculations methods for figuring Nicotine concentration as well as safety.

Then read Ginger's book "E-Cigarettes 102: DIY e-liquid". It is a book which I've contributed to that delivers an in depth easy to follow guide in the art of DYI.

I recommend viewing VPLive Vape Team Episode #82: DIY Safety and bookmark it for future reference. It explains safety in all aspects of DYI.

then read the stickies at the top of the page.

this will explain a lot of the how's and why's.

Yeah, to the OP, when I stated it seemed fine, then I also meant as combined percentages and not standalone flavor percentage, so should have clarified that, sorry.

Gfdeputy2, people dillute mixes with water, for either improving wicking or lowering the boiling-point of the mix, which makes the evaporation happen faster, so gives a little more throat-hit and vapor, but less dense probably, and too much of course will not help either... Also, some like the flavor of a little added water, to "open-up" the flavor, a little like with whiskey. Most use it purelly for wicking improvent aid, for tank systems...

And it only dillutes the mix not the flavor, since the water is included in the ratios from the start and not added later...
