Since in the international forums they replicate american brands, we should try replicating our region's juice taste. cos those are the juices we are used to.

Would love to try making a puaka equivalent for a start..

Puaka taste like melon menthol to me. What does it taste like to you?

I think we need to talk more about Steeping and Breathing your juices.

Steeping is the process of extracting flavors and nutrients from a solid into a liquid (usually done for teas, beer and wine brewing)
- It can be debatable that ready made Fruity Flavor extracts (Natural/Artificial) from suppliers such as PH require that much steeping (1-3 weeks).
- There isn't much "chemical" breakdown from such extracts to be set in your VG/PG Base, a mere 2 min shake and 6-48 hour steep should be just as good.
- For dessert flavors such as custards, creams and dairy, a week or two would be more appropriate as the components of the flavor itself is more complex.

Breathing is the process of leaving your juice uncapped to let fresh air in and release more flavor. (sometimes done in a warm water bath)
- After some research, it should NOT be done more than 12 hours as that will just diminish the flavor and nicotine strength (if added). Same idea if you were to leave out a can of soda out in the open and try drinking it afterwards; it goes flat!
- A good 0.5-6 hours should do the trick, followed by a shake or two and let it continue steeping.

What do you think? hope our vets can share some knowledge on their thought of this..

It's fine to import flavorings from stores like FA, TFA/TPA. I've done it multiple times. These are after all food flavorings first; we just happen to use it for other uses.

Alternatively, you can also pick up FA and TFA from various local baking shops. But the mark up is ridiculous.

I just bought a 1 year supply of flavoring. Initial cost is steep but eh. Easily covered by 10packs of ciggies

Hi, thanks for the reply! I've checked the Flavor Apprentice's website. But the shipping cost so expensive like $50USD. I got 10 4oz bottles of different flavors in my cart. Just need to wait for my payday to buy! I got some good recipes from people using TFA! But i think can last me 1 year of supply! Here are some recipes!

Pineapple Mango Cream
Bavarian Cream (TFA) 9%
Pineapple (TFA) 5%
Mango (TFA) 5%
Koolada (TFA) 0.5%
Menthol (TFA) 0.5%

On The Rocks
Orange Cream (TFA) 9%
Mango (TFA) 7%
Pineapple (TFA) 2%
Ripe Strawberry (TFA) 2%
Koolada (TFA) 1%
EM 10 (TFA) 1%

Lol bro. You realize 4oz is around 120ml right? And depending on your recipe, you'll only need 1-3ml of each flavoring to make a 30ml bottle of juice.

My recommendation since we are in Singapore... Stick to 2-3 recipes, limit yourself to recipes with 3-4 flavorings, ideally with overlaps. (Eg vanilla swirl, cotton candy, graham cracker are used in many recipes).

Flavor concentrates are recommended to last approx a year, so you don't wanna end up with so much also. Guarantee even if you're cloud chasing, 10x 4oz is overkill.

Ps the shipping fee increases exponentially as you increase the number of bottles. My recommendation (damn troublesome) is to increase the number of bottles one by one, and see how the shipping cost correlates. That will give you a sense of how many flavors you should try to limit yourself to

how do i create the juice
Get yourself a recipe that you like and use an ejuice calculator like e juice me up. Punch in all the flavour and pg vg percentages and it will calculate exactly how many mls you need. You can use a syringe for accurate measurement and mix them all up into a bottle. Shake well and steep to taste.

Hi all.. Was I mislead when sellers tell me that liquids can last like Max 6 mths?
Starting to look up on DIYing , and the process including steeping was recommended to be around 2-4 wks.. After which the liquid starts to degrade..
Any suggestions as to how to control the time line?

Thanx
steeping is about making sure the flavor is optimally absorbed by the base. you can steep faster if you introduce low heat and mixing/shaking at predetermined timings. there are some tutorials or tips out there on how to do it.

as for prolonging shelf life.. maybe fridge storage can help? :)

Eh. There isn't a fundamental difference between vendor juice and DIY. It's still the same components so I don't see why either would last longer.

In any case, how long a juice last would depend a lot on the conditions you store it in (cool and dark preferably). Refrigeration is not recommended; a lot of flavor makers actually talk about how a lot of flavor components are actually crystalline in nature there had to be dissolved. Refrigerating it can cause them to recrystallize.

Also, the flavorings used in the juice, whether it's DIY or store bought, would make a big difference. You would notice that juice containing custard tend to darker very very quickly after about 3 weeks? On the other hand, most fruit + menthol flavors will last for a long long time.
