Do VPG base brands differ in flavour?

Hello,

I would like your opinion on this topic.
Until now i was buying VG and PG from our local pharmaceutical company with 99,5% purity.
My friend keeps telling me that there are differences between that base i mix myself and those bought in the vape shops(FUU, Inawera, VapeGear...), premixed.

So, can somebody explain what makes the difference?
Since the pharmaceutical components are "almost" pure, there shall be no influence on the taste of the base.
Is there difference in the taste depending on the manufacturing process to get those substances?
Is the remaining 0,5% causing the difference?
Is the cause of the difference simple oxidization of the nicotine in the base, as it might be "sitting" there on the shelf for some time?
Or is it just subjective opinion?

Thanks for info :)

Short, simple answer is yes, you can use whatever USP or/and EP grade VG/PG and you won't notice a difference. E.g. the USP spec for VG is 99% glycerol min(atleast in the older leaked USP spec online from a chinese site) and EP is 98% min, but all on the market i've ever seen is min. 99.5.

The addendum, is that for me, then I have experienced very, very minute differences during taste-testing many differen't VGs. Of 10 or so, only 2 could I differentiate between blind(one had an added floral note, like violets, and the other had a sweetness that was nicer than the others; not more or less sweet, but just different sweetness-flavor, hard to describe). USP/EP VG should be just glycerol and water, and if other stuff is available, then they are just in trace-amounts, so shouldn't really make for any difference, so in my case it could be water amount or contamination or bottles or whatever, I dunno, but what I do know, is that I could only notice it unflavored, and only very slightly and I have a very sensitive palete when food is concerned and am very picky, e.g. sour and bitter is very strong for me. I hate the taste of PG unflavored for same reason(bitter sweet alcohol)

Again, just use whatever USP/EP PG/VG you want, from chemist or cattlefood-store or whatever :)
