Creepy...That's one of the most haunted homes in the U.S. I'd love to stay one night. Just one....
Ok, I'll play along. My wife very much believes and loves all the scary movies and ghost hunter tv shows. One year she decided to surprise me for my birthday and take me here. The Myrtles Plantation :glare:
We didn't stay in the house but in a crappy room that was supposedly part of the slave quarters. Toured the house and grounds that night. Saw nothing, heard nothing, felt nothing. But the biggest nothing was the amount of sleep I got. She was scared so every time I dosed off she woke me back up. By checkout time she was lucky I hadn't made her a ghost.

So when did you get out? I would have left that day. At the very least that babies bed would have been moved into my room....
Well, since I dont feel like doing anyt physical work just yet, I'll start it off. Even if it is a Monday. ;)

My oldest daughter was born 3 months before I got back from my second deployment. The house we were living in at the time was only about 900 sq/ft. It was big enough for just me and Mrs E, but it wouldnt be big enough for the new addition. We found a house just a couple of miles away in Norfolk, VA. It was an old house, built in 1910. It definitely had the "spooky" old house look to it, but we both liked it. It was 1500 sq/ft and it was just a comfortable house. 2 stories. 10ft ceilings. Wood siding.

By now, my daughter was about 6 months old and and and was still waking up in the middle of the night to eat. Nothing to concerning about the "Im hungry, get your .... in here to feed me" cry. But one night, that wasnt the cry we heard. What we heard, was a piercing scream that shoots a knife into your heart as a parent. Both Mrs E and myself bolt out of bed and run to her bedroom. Shes standing in her crib, and when we open the door, she screams even harder. I pick her up to calm her down while my wife made her a bottle.

The next night same thing. After three days of repeated episode, we started noticing that it was always at the same time, give or take 5 mins. 2am. Every night. I finally decided to charge the camcorder, but it on "night shot", and point it at her crib and still try to get as much of the room as I could. I positioned the camera so it also captured two of the three windows in the room. I figured maybe she was just seeing headlights from passing cars. That night, right on time, she woke up screaming. We took care of her, laid her back down, and let the camera run until the batteries drained.

In the morning, we hooked the camera up to the tv and started playing the tape back. There was the expected tossing and turning and playing, but she fell asleep after about 30 minutes. Sometime around 1am, she woke up, sat up, and turned around to face the one window off camera. Keep in mind, we are on the second floor of a two story house with 10ft ceilings. Its not like someone could come by and look at her through the window. She grinned, and started waving. And laughing. First, I still dont know how we never heard her laughter. Mrs E sleeps like a feather. It shouldve woke her up, but it didnt. After nearly an hour of playing with whatever she could see out of frame, the whole room dimmed. It was night, but we were looking at it through, basically, night vision. Up until that point, we could see everything going on in the frame, crystal clear. But it was like...I dont know...someone shut off every night light and street light. It was only for an instant. Its hard to describe... it wasnt like a flicker... but more... fluid or organic or something. That was the instant she started screaming again.

There are other stories from the same house I will share when I have the chance.

Here is the house:

I got the Shivers.....That's what I mean about feeling people around you...

Well, here's another quick tidbit or three.

The first, I dont remember happening, but my dad swears up and down its happened more than once.

Apparently when I was young, like 4 years old or so, I would have nightmares about whatever I had nighmares about. I would wake up crying, but by the time dad got to my room to check on me, I was sitting up in bed, not crying. He said he asked me if everything was ok. And I would reply with "Im ok, pawpaw made it all better."

Tidbit number 2. Again, dad said I was about 4 or 5 when this happened. We were going somewhere (I cant remember where he said) but I had never been down this particular stretch of road. At one point, I looked out the window and said "Hey! Pawpaw works there!" Since I had never seen the building before, dad said that kind of freaked him out a little bit.

And number 3. When I was 16, I got in a car wreck. I know, big surprise, right? My '87 Ford Escort was t-boned in the drivers side by a '74 Ford pickup. It had knocked me unconcious, but I remember glimpses of events as I was floating in and out of it. By the time they loaded my on a stretcher and was about to put me into the ambulance, my dad had gotten there and asked how I was. Again, I dont remember this part... but again, he swears it happend. I replied with "Its ok. Pawpaw said I couldnt come see him yet." The crash investigators had in their report that the impact should have been fatal.

What makes all of these stories so interesting, is that I never knew my dad's dad. He died from diabetes related problems a few years before I was born.

We need to get GA there. Zak would tear that place up...That has to be bar none the spookiest place I have ever seen. I wouldn't walk past it much less go in it...
I don't believe in that. But! If I had to sleep in this place for a night I might change my mind. A closed asylum in the UK.

Here's one from my son who was an airborne ranger who served 2 stints in Iraq...Yes...it's Jimmy...
If you have ever watched GA then you know about Bobby Mackeys' in Wilder Ky. It's a local dive across the river from Cincinnati...supposedly haunted. My daughter and her friends used to go all the time to ride the mechanical bull and drink ALOT so it was no surprise when Jimmy was home between tours that her and a friend and Jimmy went to Bobby Mackeys for fun and games. After a couple of Brewsky's Jimmy D heard natures call and headed to the men's room He walked in and walked out and he kept walking to the parking lot He peed on a bush and went back in long enough to tell Anna he was leaving and then he left.He said when he went into the men's room that there was something in there so menacing he couldn't stay...not even a second longer...

Oh I certainly believe!! Too many "experiences" to share here! Some positive, some not so much at all!! Luckily my wife has too, so doesn't think I'm a total nutjob!

One I will share - has to do with past life experiences. I've had a recurring dream as long as I can remember. Its been years since I've had it thankfully! The first time I had it, I was very young. Around 4 years old or so. Haha yes I remember stuff from that young! Haha even younger... Maybe doesn't seem strange till you hear the dream....

Well, I won't tell the whole dream, just one part. I was shot in the head. Very vivid. Sights, sounds, smells and worst of all sensations. Now if I had the dream as an adult or even say 10 I could understand, but how would a 4yr old have the knowledge to imagine something like that?! I should also add my parents were very selective of what I was exposed to. Haha I wasn't even allowed to watch The Simpsons when I was a teenager!

So do I believe in the spooky unexplained? To a point, yes.

Here's a me and Nick story...As some of you may know I'm a Civil War buff.Well so is my son Nick. Before Mr.??? retired as fire chief of our little town he attended classes at Fema headquarters in Emmittsberg Md. which was about 5 miles south of Gettysburg. We had been to Gettysburg many times and to meet up with Mr.??? for a weekend in Gettysberg was not to be missed.
Mr.??? had to stay in the dorms at Fema so Nick and I thought it might be a great opportunity to stay at The Farnsworth House B&B because it was suppose to be haunted.
First of all I have to say this about Gettysburg. If you ever have the chance to go there as soon as you get out of the car you will know something awful happened there.55,000 men died, went missing, or were wounded during the course of the three day battle. It was horrific to say the least and the energy is palpable. The first time I had visited there I felt like crying. It's just that kind of place...
Anyway....Nick and I pulled up there about 4 in the afternoon.Mr.??? was going to meet us after dinner so we checked in and went to the pub downstairs and ordered sandwiches.Nick scarfs down his food and becomes bored waiting for me to finish mine so he goes to the car to get the luggage to take up to the room.I finish eating Mr.??? shows up and we decide we will go to the little theater downstairs in the basement to hear tales and stories about the Ghosts of Gettysburg....It was hotter than Hades that day and the Gov. of Pa.had declared a drought emergency. It hadn't rained in weeks...When we came up from the basement it was storming...We should have known...Mr.?? went back to the dorms and we went up to our room....No one told us that the workers leave at 7:00 and they don't come back till 7.There is no desk clerk. We are alone.Totally alone in this haunted B&B in fact we are the only guests as well. What? Yes....The only phone is located down the hall and up a flight of stairs from our room...It's storming like crazy....and it's just us...in Gettysburg in a haunted hotel...Alone.
Since there was no T.V. we decided to call it a night about 9...But we couldn't sleep. Every time I looked over at Nick he was looking at me..It got worse as night went on and I could see he was wide awake when the lightning would illuminate the room...About 3 am I can't take it any more and I say to him walk with me to the phone. We're not going to stay here another night.I want to call the holiday Inn to get a room for tonight..So as we walked down the hall we could hear people talking and laughing we just looked at each other like really and quickly ran back to the room? We were the only ones there...Yikes...We waited in our room till sunrise.I then felt brave enough to go to the telephone.Nick was going to take the luggage to the car and I was going to get reservations at Holiday Inn and check out of the Farnsworth.I went to the door and as I turned the knob something on the other side slammed it shut...Nick said I locked the 3 door locks so fast before I turned to him to say"We can't get out" There's something holding the knob on the other side....He picked up his car keys that were on a lanyard only to see the keys were taken off of the hook and had been tied in a knot on the other end of the lanyard. We left and never looked back.It was quite the adventure. One that I do not care to repeat...

We did neither. Actually, what finally stopped it was an act that I didnt have much faith in, but was willing to try. For the duration of a few weeks, Mrs E would watch the Montel show, specifically, the ones where he had Sylvia Brown on as a guest. There were people in the audience who shared similar stories, and Sylvia always gave them the same advice. To tell the ghost (or whatever you want to call it) to go away, they are not welcome here, go to the light, this is no longer where they belong. One particular night, Kat was screaming harder than normal, struggling to catch her breath. As Im holding her to my chest to calm her down, I was willing to try anything. I repeated what the lady said on tv. That was the last night Kathryn was ever bothered, and began to sleep through the night almost immediately.

Ok, since it seems I wont be labeled a nut job (yet), I'll share another one from the same house.

Even after Kathryn started sleeping through the night, while everyone was downstairs, we would still hear movement upstairs. Light foot falls. Doors opening and closing gently. Door knobs being rattled. At first, we thought we were hearing the dog, then would realize that she was downstairs with us. I would go upstairs to see if I could see or hear where the noises were coming from, but never could. Even if Mrs E and I both heard a door close, I would run upstairs only to find every door still open. Eventually, we just got used to the idea of having a ghost or two upstairs. Afterall, Kat was sleeping through the night now (almost 3 years old by now), and nothing bad was going on, just the occational inexplicable noise.

One weekend Mrs E and I were getting ready to come to Charlotte to visit family. Our neighbors were very catholic. At the time they had 5 kids ranging from just a few months old to about 7 or 8. They had a very small house with only one bathroom which they were in the process of remodeling. They had asked if they could come over to use ours for baths/showers and other facilities. Of course we agreed and handed them the spare door keys. We finished packing and left. When we came back Sunday afternoon, our neighbor (Sarah) was doing some yard work while the kids were playing outside. She saw us pull in, ran inside, then came back out pretty quickly. Before we even let Kat get out to go play with the kids, Sarah gave us our key back, but it was the look on her face when she did it that concerned me. Here's her story:

Last night, I brought the kids over for their baths. They all went into the living room to play as I gave each one a bath starting with Jack (the oldest). After the last one was done, I told Jack to take his brothers and sisters back home and got in the shower myself. I know I HEARD them all leave. But when I got out, I could still hear the kids playing with Kat's toys. I stuck my head out the door, still dripping wet, and yelled "Jack! I told you to take them back home!" And got no reply, but it got quiet. So I continued to dry off, but as I got dressed I heard them playing again. I finished getting dressed and opened the door and yelled "JACK!" Instant silence. I walked through the kitchen to the living room, and every toy was put away, and there was no kid in sight. I FREAKED. I ran back home and Chuck [her husband] had already put the youngest three in bed with Jack and Grace getting ready for bed. I said "Jack, I thought I told you to bring them home before I got in the shower!" He said "I did! We've BEEN here!" He was shutting the door as I turned on the water. I KNOW I heard them leave! But SOMETHING or SOMEONE was IN that living room, playing. I swear I heard kids voices and laughing and KATHRYN'S toys being played with...

So, I just think whoever we had upstairs had decided to come down to play since Mrs E and I were gone. Sarah never stepped into our house alone after that. A couple years ago, we were back in Norfolk for something VA realated for my back, and stopped by to see Sarah and the kids again. Which, is up to 6 kids now. And during the conversations, someone brought up that night. She gave that face that women do that says "I dont want to talk about it" and kind of shivers. Then says... Let me introduce you to the new owners. They were a younger couple, both active duty navy. It turns out that whatever we thought we had heard, wasnt just us. The first thing the buyers of our house asked us was "Have you guys ever heard any wierd noises upstairs???" That just kind of solidified it in my mind, that we did really have children in our house.

James, the pic of your house looks very similar to the one we lived in when we were in Norfolk (Colonial Place). Strangely enough, my son Ian, under 4 yrs at the time, woke me up with the same terrified screaming in the middle of the night. I don't wake easily, but got up and went to calm him down. When he was finally calm enough to talk, he told me what scared him was the man at the window. His room was in the front on the second floor, and I couldn't figure why anyone would climb on our porch roof in the middle of the night. Thankfully, it only happened the one time.

Can't like it, because it scared a child.
Children and animals see more than we do, the kids haven't been taught that they really didn't see anything yet.

Ive got two more! These two happened in the current house. But I need to see more stories from other people!

What was the line that Keanau Reeves said in the movie Constantine? "Yeah, cats are good. Theyre half in and half out anyway." Referring that they dont live fully in "our plane".

The house I mentioned in my first post:
We had just moved in, and after we were done lugging boxes and such for the day I decided to take a nice hot soak in the tub. I had just relaxed in a mountain of bubbles when I heard my son yelling from the hallway. "Hey! What are you doing? My Mom's in there!" Knowing it was just the two of us in the house, and my son was only 8, I grabbed a towel and threw the door open. My son was standing in the hall holding up a hammer, he was white a sheet and staring into the kitchen, hammer raised as a weapon. He told me that a dark haired, tall man in a brown leather jacket walked past his room heading towards the bathroom. He grabbed the closet thing, the hammer, and went out in the hall after him. When he yelled, the man turned and looked at him, then went to the right, into the kitchen and disappeared into the side of the fridge.
Of course the doors were still locked, and a search of the house turned up nothing.
It was a long night.
