Do you like the LED on Battery?

I think I would prefer no LED on the battery. Or maybe just a small one on the side to indicate it is on. I don't really like to draw attention to myself and the LED kinda does that. And for anyone smart enough, how much power does having the LED tip lighting up take away from battery life? Would the battery charge last longer without it?

I can understand why they were originally added to PV's but with so many people using PV's that do not look like cigarettes now, I am wondering why the lighted tip has stuck around. I do not want anyone confusing my VK for a cig.

Your thoughts?

I agree. When I first shopped for e-cigs I was looking for something that looked as much like a cigarette as possible. So much so that I was annoyed that the 1st model I settled on (the 901) was only available with a green LED instead of red, orange, or even white. However, that novelty quickly wore off and since I've really wished that my e-cigs did not light up when I drag on them (another reason to love the passthrough). I'd prefer that the LED only come on to indicate that the battery was close to needing to be charged and when it is charging/done charging. I don't like drawing attention to myself either, especially in low lighting. I don't want my e-cig to look like a cigarette, I'm done with cigarettes.

I agree with getting rid of the LED, except a small 1mm on top to show that it's functioning.

Now that's a good idea!
I like the LED because it helps you to know that the battery is functioning - like flashing when you plug it in to charge, or when it blinks to let you know it needs charging (and isn't a total goner).

But a small LED on top would serve the same purpose and would look nice.

I wouldn't mind a red light, but I kinda like it when people come up to me and ask me what the hell I'm smoking. I like giving the speech. But I've only been vapin a little more than 2 months, so maybe a few months from now I'll feel differently.

Perhaps there is a way for you to kill the light, regardless people are still going to ask questions.

About 16mA on my regular autos. Absolutely negligent. I doubt it would equate to even one more draw over a charge cycle.

I figured someone would've measured it, and I had a sneaking suspicion it was gonna be you :) Thanks for the exact number.

I've been playing around with a mod or three the last few days, and noticed that RadioShack carries very little in the way of low mcd output led's anymore. Smallest I could find in stock was 560. I remember when 20mcd was about all you could get, and they were expensive! Now I've got an array of 140 of them for a custom taillight on one of my bikes, they're 18000 mcd each... I can't wait until I can get a 50000mcd in a 3mm :)

:) - I think. ;)

At least my Radio Shack carries few components and nothing resembling SMT.

Digikey and Mouser both have outstanding selections of lower mcd SMT LEDs (Now THERE is a mouthful of abbreviations) - I have some 5mcd LEDs that I believe came from Mouser.

I also have some 28,000+ mcd cold white LEDs... I put five in a home-made flashlight. They'll knock ya on your .... in the middle of the night. Don't shine them at a white wall or you're going down when your optical nerve overloads. They do get pretty warm though.

I would point out that you can just pop the end off and color the end-cap with a black sharpie and that's about the simplest method to make it dark. You could also drill a little 1/16th hole in the top near the end and that would give you a dim indicator. Just do it right above the end-cap so you don't hit the circuit board. I'd pull the cap off and watch where I'm drilling to make sure. If you have a drill press, you could limit the depth and do fine too.

yeah, i was thinking about modding one with an opaque end cap for movie theater vaping. not that keeping my XL in the sleeve of my hoodie didn't work pretty good. but generally i like the lights just as something a lil blingy... though i like the blue best.

c'mon leaford, can't you make a special line of batteries for each and every one of us??

i def wouldn't want a PV that looks "more" like a cig than this tho.

I do have times when I feel as though I did not get a hit, I will cup at the LED area to see that my device is working. Sometimes I am correct and do a unscrew rescrew on the KR8. Then I get my hit. So, yea, keep the LED if for no other reason, than to let ME know it's happening!!!!
