Do you mind if I use my portable steamer in here? It really helps my breathing.

These last couple of weeks, I've started to ask owners/managers of places that I frequent if I can use my portable steamer in their places of business. I say it just like the title of this thread, and every single one has said that yes it is fine. I also explain to the waiter/cashier/clerk that I asked the owner/manager if I could use my portable steamer, and that they already gave permission.

Once in a while, the person will ask what it's for, and I tell them that I used to be a smoker for a long time, and that smoking has wreaked havoc on my lungs. I also ask them if they've ever used a steamer at home to breathe better when they've had a cold or allergy problems. Almost everybody has used a store bought steamer sometime in their life, and knows that steam helps breathing in alot of cases.

Might be something worth trying in your neck of the woods!

Excellent idea, Darrigaaz! I've tried using "personal vaporizer," but it really doesn't fall out of the mouth as easily as I would like. "Portable steamer" might fill the bill as to what to call these devices.

I'm constantly surprised as how well this works. By not letting them get a "cigarette" impression from the get-go, people are far more tolerant and view the device completely different. It seems as though once most people associate it with smoking, the stigma behind smoking takes precedence in their minds.

This is brilliant. I'd resorted to calling it an e-cig because people knew what it was and went "huh?" to PV or Personal Vaporizer. But Portable Steamer is perfect. It is very proactive to ask first and then use, takes the "I better be discrete" factor out of it which makes vaping much more fun in public. (Stealth Vaping isn't satisfying, just ain't.)

After reading so much here about this topic, I've decided that should I ever find myself in a situation where being old and possessed of a somewhat imperious nature is not enough to scare off anybody who would dream of suggesting I do anything other than what I have chosen to do at the moment (which is unlikely, you youngsters have that to look forward to and will enjoy it immensely, I assure you) I will tell them that the reason I keep sipping delicately at what appears to be an opulently bejeweled fashion accessory, is because it contains my medicine, which I take to avoid having one of my spells, because no matter what the lawyers say, I just don't think it is (name of establishment I'm in at the moment)'s fault that those chemicals they spray around in here give me the vapors.

Yeah, and in this case the more "Steampunk" your PV looks the better.

Meaning, the less your "Portable Steamer" looks like an analog the better off you are at pulling this off.

I was asked about my REO being a type of inhaler for asthma when I was in Tennessee.
I like the "portable vaporizer". My guess is that I could pull it off better in the winter, unless my clergies are acting up.

I like the idea of portable steamer also. I have poor speaking habits, 5 syllables is easier for me to make understood than 7 syllables.

It's a GO, I have said forever that ecigs should be called something else, this is the perfect name for them, what will the feds and FDA do if we dont use the name ecig or talk about Nic being in them, just flavored steam ? I'm in all the way !
