Do you still crave/like the smell of real cigarettes since switching ?

I've been vaping 6+ years and found the smell of cigarettes unpleasant almost immediately after I could smell things again. I still enjoy the smell of a fresh opened pack and unlike many still enjoy the taste of a cigarette. I smoke about two packs a year. No doubt I'd be back at it full blown if not for vaping.

I might be taking this to another level, but here goes.......

Vaping: About 3 1/2 year
Smoke still: No, stopped on day 2
Crave smell of cigarette: No
Smell of cigarettes: Don't crave and don't mind the smell

Maybe I'm just older, but I swore if I ever quit smoking, I would not become one of those obnoxious :censored: that felt the need to preach to smokers how horrid their habit is. I even had one :censored: push a dirty ashtray right up to my nose and mouth saying "you like it so much, why don't you lick it?" Good thing we were in a crowded social setting and I was at a more mature stage. I've always found it a bit odd how society morphed from virtually no reaction or objection to being around smoking to it being horrifically unbearable once the negative health effects were known. I can't even count the number of individuals who seemed to function without any problems whatsoever in smoke filled bars and bowling alleys for hours, but would gag if walking past a smoker outside for a few seconds. The smell of cigarettes hasn't changed that much over the years, just the reaction.

So I don't mind the smell, might even enjoy the smell. No cravings. And even should I ever find it offensive, I'll just keep that to myself and do my best to avoid being around it. But that's just me.

Been vaping for 3 years. Haven't had a cig in 3 years. I have smoked a couple of nice cigars. Cigarettes smell foul to me now. Especially when the smell is hanging on someones clothes. I think, man, if you only knew just how bad you smell. I have no urge to smoke cigs. Haven't had that urge since I took up vaping.

I occasionally like the smell and get the urge back. The smell on the smokers' and their clothes is Nasty tho.

I've been to pet lovers homes where they have become immune apparently to the odors of their pets. Can't exactly politely leave then. Pet owners homes are often worse than smokers' homes.

    between here and there
I used to smoke up to 4 PPD (unfiltered) plus a can of snus. I managed to quit overnight, even with the primitive e-cigs of the day - stick batteries and cartos. I found that I really disliked the tobacco flavored e-juices within a month or two. I never needed another smoke or dip of snus nor craved one. (I did smoke a single (actually partial - ugh!) "commitment cig" on my vapiversary for a couple of years, but forgot on my 3rd or 4th, and never did it again.) That was a bit over six years ago.

When I first began vaping, I tended to hang out with smokers when they went to "smoking allowed" locations - usually outdoors. I'm not sure whether it was for the camaraderie or for the smell of the smoke (more sidestream than secondhand). This went on for two or three years after I quit. It took me that long to begin to dislike even small amounts of tobacco smoke (whether sidestream, secondhand, or stale (the worst)). Now, at 6+ years, I can hang out with smokers (at least outdoors with a breeze), but now I'm sure it's for socializing, because I certainly no longer like the smell at all.

How much I now dislike the smell of smoking (even smokers who are not actually smoking at the moment) drives home to me (and still embarrasses me) just how offensive I was as a 4 PPD smoker. I was really a nasty-smelling person for the 45 years that I smoked. I am astounded at what my family and friends were willing to put up with.

I now vape totally unflavored e-juice (I vape exclusively for the nicotine - a lot of it; 65 mg/ml). As a side note, when I quit using flavoring in my e-juices, my wife commented that the vapor no longer smelled "perfumey"; not bad exactly, but perfumey. (It was very small amounts of Sour Cherry or Sour Green Apple.) So, depending on the strength and type of flavors that vapers use, it may be possible to still offend to some extent.
This ^^^^^^ is my story. Extremely close except for the snus. lol
I was a 4 ppd smoker and when I quit and started vaping, I could not believe how the people around me stood it for as long as they did.

I went on a cleaning spree to beat all cleaning sprees. Even washing the walls in my house and trading in my car. If I could not get the smell out of something, in the trash it went. When i see or smell others now smoking, I do hold my tongue because I do not want to become one of 'those' people who always puts smokers down. But it is now offensive to me and can't believe I smoked for all those years. So glad to be vaping for over 7 years now. No plans to ever go back.

    :)

The smell doesn't bother me, unless I'm near someone who sits in a box all day smoking cheap roll your owns..and it's oozing out of every pore of their being. Then I just gag.... My best friend still smokes, she doesn't like anyone elses driving so she insists and as long as she's at it she gets to smoke...come to think of it, it's probably the only reason she drives..lol

I started smoking when i was about 11 or so.

My step brothers would steal cigarettes from my mum's bag. My Dad used to smoke too, 60 a day the nutter, and i suppose i was smoking passively from birth. I remember being in pubs, from an early age, and would get sore eyes from the smoke. I was always exposed to smokers everywhere i went except for infant and junior schools.

When i started comprehensive that's when i'd start thieving smokes from my mum, only because my brothers were doing it, and by then i was probably addicted to nicotine anyway.

I started buying smokes with my school dinner money when i was 11'ish. Me and a friend would go splits on a pack of ten "John Player Special", so i was smoking at least 5 a day back then. That was 37 years ago.

So i'm not sure whether i started smoking because i liked it or because of a series of other factors. It's almost as if it were hereditary. Back then "passive smoking" wasn't a thing or even thought of.

I figure it will be about another ten years before my lungs have fully recovered.

It IS interesting that it seems ex smokers are more offended by the smell of second hand smoke than perhaps someone who has never smoked at all.
In the UK we have a saying "Nothing worse than an ex smoker" and that is because they tend to always be the most annoyed by the smell and tend to lecture existing smokers.

I wonder if there is some subconscious biological thought process that ensures we never poison our bodies again once we have got the junk out of our system (?)

Biology is amazing - I know when I was pregnant the smell of cig smoke literally made me throw up didn't before or after so to me thats my body taking care of the baby and me.

    Interesting!

Yeah I kind of made a vow to never be "that" ex-smoker. I am amazed I didn't get MORE comments from never-smokers, heck, even my mom (who HATES smoking) would let me smoke in her car.

She must have done a significant amount of praying about it, her three formerly smoking kids (everyone but my oldest brother, basically) have all quit (I am the last, LOL). Even her one smoking GRANDKID quit. :)

She takes prayer requests if anyone wants to win the lottery.... :)

Interesting to see all the perspectives. I made the transition from liking the smell of smoking (at least outdoors) about two years after quitting. I no longer like it, but don't have the extreme reaction to the smell reported by some posters. Stale smoke, especially a heavy smoker's car on a cold, wet morning, is pretty nasty, but walking past a smoker outdoors is merely something I move away from when convenient. EDIT: And yes, I try not to be one of "those" people.

How long have you been vaping? 2.6 years
Do you still smoke real cigarettes? No
Do you still crave and/or enjoy the smell of real cigarettes
    OR
Does the smell and idea of real cigarettes offend you?

Someone outside doesn't bother me, it smells decent. I like, on occasion, to smell the freshly lit tip of a cig. Some people just stink though, it's sick. I never say anything about it.

To me, I think they stink as much as the BLM (Bureau) folks after a week-long paid camping trip.

After smoking cigarettes, and an occasional tobacco pipe or cigar for forty years, I began vaping June 24, 2012. Smoked my last tobacco product two days after that.
Cigarettes and cigars are revolting to me now. But a good, fresh pipe tobacco catches my attention.
Perhaps the most disgusting thing of all is, the way a heavy smoker smells. Their clothing, even their hair, is saturated in a repugnant odor. To think I once lived the same way....

Does the smell and idea of real cigarettes offend you? The smell is a real turn off for me. I can smell it even when I can't find the person who is smoking-LOL. There are times during heavy stress that I think.....I should have a cig and then I remember the smell, the thought leaves quicker that it came.

I got to thinking after I gave this an "agree" that some clarification might be necessary. I agree with the first 2 paragraphs, but do not have the personal experience to agree or disagree with the third.
