I think Chantix is used because smoking is dangerous and hard to quit, justifying the psychiatric risks, which are actually small. I know people here are excited about
vaping but different people have different needs, and conventional treatments really do work for some people.
I took Wellbutrin in the past when I was a non-smoker and I totally lost the craving for cigs, which never went away altogether when I quit (using smokeless
tobacco, then the patch + peppermint candy). My doctor had to tweak my Wellbutrin dose, though, as I started getting psychotic depression at 200mg. I've honestly considered taking it again as it might help me as I've been in a funk a few weeks. But Wellbutrin was so hard to quit, I had bad withdrawl from it, almost as bad as quitting smoking.
I doubt Chantix would work for me, though. I don't find nicotine particularly addictive and I respond better to whole
tobacco alkaloids. It's the ritual bit of smoking, plus the minor alkaloids that keep me hooked, and Chantix only works on nicotine receptors in the brain.
