I've been "vaping" since November the 9th 2012 and was dreading telling my doctor ! I shouldn't have worried ! When she asked if I was still smoking I said NO but I am using an e-cigarette ! This is where I got "Surprised" She Said "That's Great Keep It Up" ! My blood pressure is down and I'm breathing a lot easier ! My teeth are even starting to get whiter and I haven't used anything except for my usual tooth paste ! No One Had Mentioned That Point To Me So I Was A Little Surprised When My Sister Commented On My Whiter Teeth !

There are two types of Doctors, those who know it all and those who know they need to research new methods and listen to their patients to have a clue. Sounds like you got the better of the two :D

Congrats on your success and finding a good Doctor as their #1 concern should be getting you off proven killers regardless of how much is known about the less dangerous alternative.

I have a doctor that has his foot in both camps. He asked me if I'm still smoking and I said no, I use electronics. He replied that the evidence states that its much less harmful than tabacco smoke. YEAH! He then proceeded to try to prescribe me Chantix, warning me that's there's only a slight risk of depression..BOO!

I guess he's trying to be open to new things by researching things himself, but covering his .... by going with what he thinks he knows.

During a medical procedure, the nurse (an older female) in the room asked if I smoked. I mentioned that I switched to a vaporizer, and she began to go into the "that's not good for you" routine. Before she could get going, the doctor (a younger male) jumped right on my bandwagon with "It's better than smoking. Cigarette smoke has thousands of poisonous chemicals that vapor doesn't." A Nurse Practitioner I see at a local walk-in clinic had the same positive response, and she checks my lungs during each visit.

There are health care professionals out there who are informed and/or open-minded. I don't really blame those who seem slow to catch up (or lack the desire to do so), because they've been brain-washed that "if it looks like smoke, it is smoke and just as dangerous." Mind-set can be changed.

My Dr. said that it is great my husband and I are using PV to try to quit smoking. I asked her if she ever heard much about it and she said yes, that is why she is recommending it to all of her patients. She said a lot of patients are using them now and have reported quitting the analogs and some have cut down tremendously. She was SO happy and told us to keep striving forward to quitting the analogs, so we are trying.

Seems like many doctors only see the PV as a means to stop altogether. Like they expect us to stop vaping and then consider us to be fully non-smoker at that point. I don't plan on stopping vaping, so I wonder what my doctor will say when I get my next check-up?
Oh, well.. I know it's better for me and I like it so I'm just gonna keep on vaping! :D

There's another aspect to vapeing vs "cold turkey". I've read and experienced weight gain during "quitting" cycles in the past. It seems that the will power to stop smoking and curbing increased appetite is difficult to attain, at least for me. Since starting the e-cigs, I have also been on a low carb diet, without any conflicts. I have managed to drop cigarettes and 16 pounds with minimal problems. If I had to go "cold turkey" and diet simultaneously, it wouldn't be very pretty.

My doctor is pleased with both results so far.

AGREE... I would not try that crap even if they gave it to me and paid me to be a lab rat.

My Mother in law tried Chantex a couple of years ago. She ended up being suicidal and didn't know what was wrong with her. She said she kept dreaming of taking a knife to her chest. Then she would wake up and want to do it. Thankfully she realized what could be causing her problems and went to the Dr. and got off that junk. I guess the medicine does help some people quit smoking because if you are suicidal and do it you will quit smoking:( How sad is that:(
