I have mixed feelings about the episode last night. I thought it felt rushed with a lot of short cuts.

How did the crazy mother get there in the first place?
Why did she kill the birth mother?
How could she have killed everyone in the others camp, sealed up the well site (also installed the wheel in the wall since it wasn't installed yet) carried MIB up to the surface all before MIB could regain consciousness and not get one speck of dirt on her or her clothes all by herself?!?!?!?!?!
OK, there is a heart of the island that is a golden light, but where did that come from and what the heck is at the heart of the heart of the island that could kill and turn the MIB into the smoke monster.
And what is up with all those mechanical sounds the the monster makes. Sheesh!

This episode did nothing to explain how Jacob came up with the idea that the MIB is some ancient evil that needed to be trapped on the island to protect all of mankind. Where did he come up with that?

Is the smoke monster what was released because the body of Jacob's brother went into the light and it assumed the image of the brother and the brother is in fact dead? Or is it the brother whose soul is in the creature.

Too many questions...... I want answers........ and just three and a half hours to wrap it all up.

there going to leave it at that i think, they said there going to leave things unanswered
i think its good enough to explain jacob and his brother / smoke monster.
amd believe thats his brothers soul because in the Richard episode smokey told him jacob took his body. I think he ment it literally as in he can no longer use it.
The mother is most likely the same as jacob got to the island some how and someone handed her over the island to protect.

what interests me is how the smokey dude knew things he shouldn't know.

Yeah, like seeing his dead mother. But the island obviously has a magic all of it's own. It obviously gave the crazy mother immortality and special powers.

And why do they never give him a name? What did they call him all those years?? LOL

I think the smoke monster is the dead brother's soul. The crazy mom told Jacob that going in there would be "worse" than death. I don't think he was dead yet when he floated in there, just unconscious. But why would something so beautiful and the source of everything turn someone into a smoke monster??

Interesting that Jacob turned out to be flawed and the smoke monster not necessarily evil at all.

Wondering why the smoke monster kills so many people later on, too. To what end? Jacob wanted to protect the island, but the smoke monster just wanted to get off. Why kill people who didn't stand in his way?

It'll be interesting to see where they are going with this.

I was told that Esau's name was mentioned in an earlier show?? I don't remember. I know I'm going to be PO'd because like karmatized said, they are going to leave loose threads that won't get tied up. At least, that is what I have been lead to believe. Hopefully, the important stuff will be more or less explained!

Of course there will be unanswered questions in the end, as this is a mystery story and that is why it draws the viewer in. I mean, I always enjoy stories where a few things are left in the dark. However, I do believe that the shows ending will not be disappointing, because a lot of time and effort has went into this epic story.

By the way, ever since JJ Abrams came up with Fringe, I've been enjoying that a lot as well. The reason I mention is because when parallel universes came up on that show as well, I believed for the longest time that JJ might end up making the Fringe and Lost universe be connected to each other :D I just thought it'd be brilliant.

i got new stuff i been thinking about, desmond seems to be the only one able to handle a large burst of energy right. My guess after this past episode is he is the only one who can handle walking into that bright light without dying.

Hence why he is not dead yet as sayde mentioned to jack he is still downthe well in the island.

I think that Desmond is able to withstand a large amount of electromagnetism, not because he was born special that way, but rather because he was stuck living in the hatch for well over 3 years, and I'm guessing that he built up a tolerance to the electromagnetism.

But there is still the question of what role he'll play in the end? I mean, the last time we saw Desmond, there were still a lot of unanswered questions. For example, it is not clearly explained what happened when Desmond was recently exposed to the electromagnetism. Did the two consciousnesses submerge? exhange? (as in Desmond in the timeline we know and the Desmond in the alternate timeline). Why was he so eager to help Widmore afterwards? Was it because it was the original Desmond and he wanted to have the obviously better life over in the alternate universe? Or is it because that was the alternate universe Desmond in the original timeline and he just trusted Widmore from the get go? I don't remember the full details of that episode as of know, so maybe someone here can clarify.

On to one of my general predictions for the end of the show, I feel as if it's going to be a time loop kind of end. For all we know, it'll be a time loop where all of it happens again - ex the last shot we see is Jack's eye, exactly the way the pilot episode started off. Not to mention close-up eye shots have been occurring in Lost for a long time now. Well whatever it is I'm pretty damn sure it'll knock my socks off. New ep tomorrow!!!

It was a pretty interesting episode, after all, it was the last episode before the series finale. I would say that the last episode is going to be just bombastic. Or in Jacob's words: "It only ends once. Anything that happens before that is just progress.".

It's hard to say, but it might be that Ben will still turn out to be OK. I would say that he just did what he had to do. I feel like this is a Scorsese movie, what, with a buttload of major characters all dying in the end.

Another thought I had was that the little kid picks up the ashes, and I'm guessing that he throws them in the fire and that's how we can see him. What that makes me question is - how long has Jacob been in that state? Do you think that happened when Ben killed him, or do you think Jacob has been dead for longer than that.

Also, it looks like it wasn't the wine that was special, but the incantations - or maybe it was the wine and the writers are just toying with us (which would obviously mean that Jack really isn't the new protector). One has to realize - the writers just want to give all the viewers a big slap in the face throughout the finale episode, so I would say there will be shockers left and right.

PS - Driveshaft rock concert? Awesome!
