I got one from amazon.ca, was shipped to my house in 2 days.

Thanks for the amazon tip. Is there any specific model you would recommend? It looks like there are 6-10 different types of cleaners available there. I'm assuming that they all work the same way, but I just want to make sure!

Aren't sonic cleaners a waste of time?

IMHO he whole point of cleaning an atty or carto is to get the burnt crap off the coils. And from what I've read here, the sonic cleaners don't do that. As I understand, the coils can only be de-gunked by performing a dry burn.

Save your dough, time and effort, and just buy new cartos

Agreed for caromizers. I recall a thread in the Bloog forums talking about cleaning cartomizers, and some science guy who had even went as far as using an industrial sonic cleaner and still didn't get the crap off. Sonic cleaning was the best of all the methods he tried, but for the money / time / effort it's not worth it.

Atties on the other hand. A couple careful dry burns followed by a sonic cleaner can bring it back from near death.

Edit: Here's the Thread

I don't know about sonic cleaners, but dry burning is not a good idea and should only be done as a last resort to save dead/dying gear. This comes from Isaac at IKV.. I agree with the last part, just buy new cartos.

Hi Design,
Yes, yes and YES from what Switcher said. Dry burning is the WORST thing you can ever do to an atomizer. Any of us can't stress that enough. It really grinds my gears to an extreme when I see folks on camera teaching people how to do it with all the ignorance and arrogance in the world. The heating core MUST be wet prior to activation and in under no circumstance should a dry burn be initiated.
Here's a few examples, different forms of technology under the same principle.

You have a new car.
Would you ever hold down the gas pedal till the dial goes into the red and hold it therefor a minute, then expect the vehicle to run better?

In nearly any circumstance that statement is 100% true IMHO. Dry burning a coil is just unnecessary damage and with most cartos it will accelerate the charring of the batting. It's best to boil a carto IME and I'll only do that twice at the most.

New cartos is definitely the way to go.

I use my ultrasonic cleaner all the time for cleaning atties and other things. It's humming away right now as we speak.

It works great! The nice thing about using an ultrasonic cleaner is you can put solvent or water or whatever you like in there.

I got mine at Walmart in the jewellry department, for $29.95. Its not very macho-looking, but it works!

Has it really though? Numerous pictures are shown in the aforementioned thread that show that ultrasonic cleaning does not clean the coils better than a hot water/alcohol rinse

I can only speak from my own experience, and I found the hot water thing to be a pain in the .... (and the fingers), and
the results were mediocre at best.

The thing I like about the ultrasonic cleaner is you can just leave parts in there as long as you like. I put atties in there with
some isopropyl and let it run for a few hours. It works great!

The only issue I've had is it doesn't seem to do much to help ego-T atties get rid of that burnt taste, but that makes sense
considering the burnt taste seems to come from the burnt wick material rather than the coil.

Oh, and you have to remove the burnt wicking material from regular atties (if it has any) or it won't make any difference, but I'm sure you knew that.

It looks like the consensus is to not bother reusing cartos, but rather replace. If that's the case, I hope Happy Vaper starts stocking the 50-packs of blank cartos!!!

You can also try GreenHouseOne in China (their rep, Tim, is Canadian I believe) - they have 5pack boge cartos for 4.99 available in both SR and LR.
