Try this with your actual cartomizer. I do it on my 510 cartos as well.

Strprswpr (for the life of me can't remember if it's sir or Ms.), are you using cool cartos by any chance or wow? Could be the adapter needs some slight sanding if it's cool cartos...
You should be able to use the flathead screwdriver trick on your adapter as well to raise or lower the center post which will adjust the fit and draw. Turn/tweek the center post in small increments until you get the fit/draw that you like. I've done this with many of my adapters.
The main problem is the carto not seating all the way on the adapter. Sanding down the adapter fixes this?
If you feel like it's threading correctly, just not threading all the way down try adjusting the adapter post like I suggested above. We posted at the same time so you may have missed it.
If it's not making connection, raise the little center post with a small flathead screw driver or small nail. They are pretty manipulatable.
EDIT: I see your cartos DO fire. Yeah try the sanding thing.
Yes adjust the adapter with a small screwdriver.Its slotted in the center and adjusts up and down.Try swirling it in sandpaper if you need to also.Then it should screw on all the way and adjust to the draw you like.
What she said. I tried to find a video of this process to post with no luck but I know I've seen one somewhere before. Adjusting them this way seems quite necessary. I'm not sure if they al adjust this way but mine all do and I got them at Goodprophets and Madvapes. Around the time that I would throw away a VK carto, I like to attach it to a 5v mod and get a few more days out of it. Good times.
Strprswpr every adapter I've tried so far (3 510-808, 2 901-808) have had to be sanded to get the cool carts to fit every time without issue. Usually use a nail file and just give it about 9-12 spins around the threads and the issue disappears. Same principle used on normal style autos that share the same issue... 
I bought low profile gold colored 501 to 808 adaptors at Quality brand e cigarette and e cig liquid from ecigexpress.com that have worked well with my CoolCarts and WOW carts without any adjustments or sanding required.
Of course now that I said that the next carto I try to put on them won't work.
