I have a few different types of clearos now as I've experimented, and I honestly just can't like my bottom coil mini clearos from SI. First, half of them leaked everywhere. Finally figured out how to get them to stop leaking and every last one tastes like burnt plastic (and burns my throat), despite the juice flavor or how long I let them wick before using them. I haven't had any similar issues with top coil with regular wicks, am I doing something wrong or are the ones from SI just junk?

While I like my Vivi Novas, especially with the dual coil replacement heads that are around, I have a preference for bottom coil designs. I just seem to get -- I was going to say 'a better vape' but I should really say 'a vape that is more enjoyable to me', because this is really about personal preference.

I've had a few bottom coil clearos that leaked badly, but I hunted around until I found a model that worked for me, the Davide (both mini and regular sized). Davides are now available in a bottom dual coil version, and I definitely will try this at some point.

Regards
Glenn

The leaking I can say is all in the design yes. Taste and such, then several things come into play. Type of coil (vertical, micro, nano, standard wrap), type of wick (silica, ekowool, cotton yarn, cotton ball, ceramic, stainless cable or mesh), resistance of coil, voltage or wattage output, thickness of your juice. Stock coil we can easily say we are dealing with a standard wrapped coil around a main silica wick and a couple small floating wicks, resistance (1.5, 1.8, 2.2, 2.5, 3.0??). Now, question is how thick is your juice you are vaping (70PG/30VG or higher PG, 60PG/40VG, 50/50, 40/60, 30/70, 20/80 or thicker)?

A stock BCC head should handle upto a 50/50 blend if the VG is thin, start getting thicker, those floating wicks mentioned need removing 1 to test, if still burning, 2nd floater needs removal.

BCC tanks have a slight learning curve as so many factors play into their performance, but once dialed in to match you vaping habits, they are one of the best performing tanks on the market. External Temperature, air flow holes, coil, voltage/wattage applied to them, liquid thickness, coil and wick type all play subtle to major roles as heat, gravity, and pressure all affect the device. Many get into modifying and re-building them like myself to predict so much about how the tank should perform, especially on a variable voltage or variable wattage device.

Is it possible that you managed to burn the coils while trying to use these? The description you gave is exactly what I get when I "burn" the wicking by not keeping the coil sufficiently moist (usually happens to me with thicker juices). Once they burn, no matter how much you clean them, they will ALWAYS taste burnt until you replace the coils and the juice. If you just replace the coil, the juice will maintain the burnt flavor as it has been contaminated.

If you think this COULD possibly be the problem, try cleaning out a tank completely, putting in a brand new coil, and adding a fresh batch of juice. This should at least tell you if you somehow burnt the others, or if it is something with the tanks/coils themselves.

HTH!

I'm not familiar with the bcc you're referring to, but with kanger bcc, burnt plasticky taste usually comes from the scorched grommet where the legs of the coils are. Some people are more sensitive to the scorched taste and it ruins the whole vape.

You can either try recoiling and using non resistant wires for the legs or check this post.

I've yet to receive the tubes and hence cannot confirm if it works. But the OP from the thread has.
