Hi everyone! I am going to be stepping down to 0mg liquid and I figured I'd make a thread and see if anyone would like to join in on the experiment. I've quit nicotine a few times throughout my life and I think I've nailed down a pretty good method. I basically just create an interval between the time I wake up, and the time I vape liquid with nicotine in it. So to begin, for example, I would go a week where-in I am vaping only 0mg nicotine for the first hour I am awake, then a week where I go 2 hours before I vape nicotine liquid. If anyone here is struggling to step down, you're welcomed to join in. This thread can serve as a goals and accountability thread if a few of us commit together. If you are interested in joining, please comment below and follow this thread. We can begin in a week or so to allow anyone who wants to join that doesn't have 0mg, enough time to buy/order 0mg. We can check in with each other and report how we felt going without. If all goes according to plan, we can then begin to plan our next step down due date. You can also play along by just abstaining from vaping for your first hour. Maybe we can choose a goal to hit by New Years.

Let me know if you want to give it a shot. Lurkers welcomed.

I did 0mg for the month of May, after ramping down from 6mg. Caught myself drooling at the Cstore counter for a pack of reds. I went home and mixed up a 4mg batch to break my streak. I'm pulling for ya brother, I'll get back in the fight soon.

EDIT: I think my failure was not ramping down slower. It was still a struggle at 2mg and I rushed it. I spent 7 yrs at 6mg, but have been comfortable at 4mg now. When I drop down again, I'm going to stay at 2mg longer. I tried to go from 6 to 0 in 4 months, it was to quick for me.

I respect ya'll for being honest with yourselves & everyone here. Just a quick bump that this is just 1 hour after waking up, for the first wave. If anyone wants to jump onto the list and see if you can make it 1 hour after waking up without vaping nicotine, please comment below and watch this thread. It's ONE HOUR guys lol.

Benefits of waiting for your brain to wake up before vaping and/or ingesting stimulants are well documented. You decrease your cortisol levels immediately! That means less anxiety/inability to focus/restlessness throughout the day believe it or not! If you're interested in experimenting with that, you might want to join in...!

Thanks Rob! I do like having something for the oral aspects of the addiction. Sugar though, is not something I typically recommend. I go by the rule that in order to quit nicotine, you need to increase dopamine through natural means, and testosterone, which is why I always cut down on sugar (using it only as an evening/end of day reward if I can) and increasing protein, calciferous vegetables, and exercise.

If you work out enough, you can't even feel the body aches from nicotine withdrawal. They're masked by the body aches from working out! :p

It may surprise you but the tobacco industries are one of largest buyers of sugar in the world. Nicotine is not addictive as sugar as it turns out.

Very interested in following this! My medical insurance never classified me as a smoker until 2 months ago and they added vaping to their criteria. So now I am paying higher premiums
I just ordered juice this morning before I saw this thread and ordered 3 mg, going from 6 mg. I hope to quit completely so I don't have to pay the high premiums. My insurance has higher premiums even if you vape zero nic

ahh very interesting @57chilicat
If you'd like to use this thread as a journal of your experiences with me, I think that'd be really great. Do you exercise at all currently? I think exercise & routine are paramount to stepping down and quitting nicotine entirely, and my assumptions have been confirmed by numerous publications on the matter. We have to increase natural dopamine, otherwise, well, I have severe panic attacks myself, when I try to step down or quit nicotine without exercise and routine. My best tip for you is, when you choose to begin this journey, set a bedtime, and stick to it religiously. Regular sleep schedule is absolutely imperative. This might mean that you will need to begin cutting yourself off from nicotine an hour before bed, because we tend to lose our ambition to quit as we get tired in the evenings and at night, and you don't want to wind up chain vaping before bed after a day of abstaining, because that will wreck your ability to go to sleep on time. While you are just stepping down to 3mg, 20 minutes of light exercise per day is essential in my experience. (More when necessary, like if you feel you're entering a period of anxiety, go ahead and take a walk up and down a flight of stairs in your home for a few minutes or take a walk around the block or the yard. Next, I would begin increasing the amount of time between your waking up & getting out of bed, and your taking your first hit of nicotine in the morning. This would be an intermediate step. Because nicotine is a short-acting stimulant type of drug, your brain craves hits (or bumps, if you will) after your first hit. So you want to try your best to drag out the amount of time you're waiting to have your first vape, after waking up. Throughout these steps, I would maintain a scheduled interval between vapes. For instance, make sure you are not vaping more than once per 60min interval. Example: If your first vape of the day is at 10am, do not allow yourself to vape until after 11am.

Once you get to this point, you have to make a leap of faith to the next step, which would be divorcing your chase of the high. This means increasing your interval further, and, rather than looking forward to the uplift from nicotine, now you are using nicotine ONLY to stave off intense cravings and/or anxiety. (ie: vape only when needed, not when seeking pleasure)

After you stabilize at this stage for a bit, it is time to make the jump to 0mg. It's at this point that i highly recommend increasing exercise from light to moderate, if your doctor approves. This means rather than casual 10 min strolls, you choose to walk up and down a standard 14 step staircase 5 minutes here, 5 minutes there- perhaps try some calisthenics with light weights as well, 5 pound for example.

Anyway if that hasn't scared you off, you're welcomed to share how you do it; Your personal experiences are welcomed here for sure!

I'm not trying to get you to not quit, I think you should if you have a mind to.

But as far as I know there is no way for any insurer (life, medical or otherwise) to know if you are vaping 0mg. They can only go on your word. PG (or PEG), VG and flavorings are used in food products so an oral swab test (even if was designed to detect the use of VG, PG and various ingredients of flavorings) would not prove you are vaping 0mg. It would merely prove that you have common food ingredients in your system. But there likely isn't such a swab test anyhow.

But now that the cat is out of the bag, too late.

I switch to 0mg when the Sun goes down on days that I'm kinda wound up. I find I Sleep Better if I do.

Switching to 0mg during the Day gives me that I have Forgotten Something Important edginess. Perhaps if I Ramped Down a bit. I typically use about 4.5ml of 9mg/ml on an Average Day.

that would contradict what most of the professional neuroscientists would say but, if that's how you work, make sure you lay around and do nothing the next time you quit!

Addiction is alot more mental than physical. Physically most addictions can be over come in a few days or a week or two. I own a coffee roasting company and have no addiction to coffee, I can take or leave it, my wife on the the other hand is addicted to coffee as strongly as my nicotine addiction.

I stopped a 32 year multiple pack a day smoking addiction with vaping. I started with 50mg nic salt. Stayed in the 35-50 range for about a year. Ive been slowing cutting down ever since dropping 1mg on most orders. My latest order was 4mg. My goal is to eventually get off nicotine. I will be watching the thread.

When I retired and enrolled in Medicare I told my secondary health insurance company that I quit smoking and started to vape. Premiums are reasonable and they don't care if I vape.

Find another health insurance company. Vaping is definitely better than smoking. If you can quit vaping it's probably better than not vaping, but the relaxation of vaping may be a stress reducer that could prolong life for smokers who are programmed to enjoy nicotine. Just my opinion.

When I was smoking my lung X-rays showed a light haze that my doctor said was the result of smoking cigarettes. Shortly after I quit smoking and started to vape my lung X-rays became clear and normal. A recent CT Scan showed clear lungs after ten years vaping.

I tapered down from 24mg juice to 3mg DIY juice years ago. A little nic can be relaxing once you get used to it.

Is Vaping Really That Bad?
