Don't drip, dip!

I've had my Pilot for about 2 weeks now, and love it. I'm now using cartridges only when I'm out & about, and have been dripping on the atomizer when at home. Dripping works pretty well, but can get messy if I'm not careful, and it's near impossible if I don't have good light like when I'm watching a movie.

Last night it dawned on me that the only reason people started dripping was because the older models have a recessed atomizer. With the 401, the atomizer bridge sticks out, which makes it really easy to dip it in eliquid. I put maybe 10 drops in a shot glass, and just dip the atomizer into it. It gets the perfect amount of juice on it every time, and there's absolutely no mess.

I think a perfect solution for dipping while on the go may be a contact lens case. You can get them for maybe a dollar at about any convenience store, they should hold about the right amount of liquid for dipping, and they are designed to hold liquid without leaking.

I am still a noob here and HAD to bump this! This was great advice as i have been preferring lately to just drip and forgo the inner part of the cart on my m401. I found a perfect little container with an airtight lid and now I am just letting the atomizer wick suck up what it needs. I am getting much better vaper this way and the draw is much easier than using a polyfill cart. So far, I have gotten a good 15 strong puffs with consistant vaper(and still going). Once the vaper becomes non-existant, I will dip again. Dripping was a hassle and i was afraid to put more then two drops on it... this way, dipping the tip of the wick into the juice, it takes all it needs and is a hassle free way to go! Contact lens cases for on the go are a great idea! The screw top ones would be perfect and you could have a diff flavor in each side, and then having an atomizer with outer cart for each flavor!

I LOVE love love this forum! I really like my m401 and just dipping has really brought it to life! I was a pack a day smoker and am down to about 3-4 analogs a day in the week or so I have had the m401 and another overpriced unit that has an outer wick as well so will work with the dipping too. other than cleaning maintanance and making sure not to flood the atomizer(which with dipping on tip of wick I don't see that happening), this new way of smoking has become hassle free and i may be able to be analog free any day now:)

After dipping, do you put your outer and inner cart back on the atty or just the outer cart? Forgive my ignorance, I'm a newbie.

I'm a noob as well, but I just put the outer cart(mouthpiece) back on. I have yet to get any juice in my mouth from dipping.. I even widened the hole on the mouthpiece(the part we suck on) and get an even better drag. With dripping as apposed to carts, the drag is real smooth and also you can taste the liquid much better. So far so good. I just re-dip if when the vapor becomes scant so as not to let the metal wick dry out.

Noob here, love the dip. I got a couple pill containers that work great for on the go. These are the stainless or titanium type made for nitroglycerine pills. The great thing is that they are waterproof, crush proof etc. They even make some that have two compartments so you can pack different juice. I got a real nice two compartment job since all that "not spent on analog cash" was burning a hole in my pocket and it holds about 5 ml. Wrack Works makes some really nice ones out of medical grade stainless including a two compartment model called the paramedic, but you can find these pill fobs/containers from a number of places. If you want something non-plastic that will not ever leak try it out. Also Sunshine product USA is awesome, father/daughter small business that machines really cool little waterproof containers, Frank the owner will even make you something custom (I got mine from him). Cheers, happy dipping.

Can you direct me to a place to find these particular pill containers? I did find some possibilities here: waterproof pill containers at Amazon. They look pretty promising but with the drawback of limited vision when dipping into them and i only like to touch the tip of atty wick to the fluid and let it suck up only what it needs(get 15-20 good puffs) it looks like what you are describing... maybe a glass vial so I can see inside. hmmm... The contact lens case I am using works OK, but I would rather have something not plastic and more secure so as not to waste one single drop!

Just found this beauty!
51%2Bqx-0IukL._SS400_.jpg
"It has two zippered compartments, one for your contact lenses with plastic case, plastic tweezers, two solution bottles and a mirror. The other for your eyeglasses which has a always handy cleaning cloth. Practical & lightweight. There is more! You will get a FREE SQUEEZE WALLET!

Found this on Amazon:
Leather Contact Lens Holder Eyeglass Case Eye

The eyeglass compartment is separate from the "fluid" compartment.. so the hardware could go in there protecting it from any leaks! I think this could make a fine carrying case for those who prefer to dip. I will add it to my wish list and maybe next month...

Looks like you can get them on ebay as well by searching "Leather Contact Lens Holder Eyeglass Case Eye "

google sunshine products usa

This is where I got mine. They have a lot of different containers plus will custom make on if you want. Some of there containers are very shallow which I fine makes for easy dipping even thou it is a metal container. they have a quality seal. Frank is the owner and is really good about returning emails etc. It look like the ones I mentioned from "Wrack Works" are currently sold out :(.

google wracks works pill fob

But worth checking out when they get back in stock.

I do prefer stainless or titanium over plastic for storage, no change of flavor or potential leaching etc.

Hope that helps. I would post the URL but I am not allowed yet.

Funny.

I was staring at my EVO just the other day thinking, "I wonder if I could dip this thing in the juice."

But then my last battery died (from dripping, I'm pretty sure).

I've got new ones coming in and I'm going to do this, because, like I said, I'm pretty sure dripping killed my batt, but I cannot be arsed with filling those teeny tiny little evo carts.

Also, I need that case. LOL.

Okay - here is a real newb question. Haven't tried dipping yet for fear of ruining something! Question is - how do you know when the mesh has wicked up enough? Early on, someone posted that they put 10 drops and then dip. The mesh doesn't wick all 10 drops does it? Seems like a lot. Am afraid of burning out the atomizer it I don't get enough juice on the mesh. Is there some sort of time frame like 'hold it in there for 10 seconds' or something that I could use as a guideline? Thanks!

The wick will only suck up what it needs.. I dip the exposed wick for about 5 seconds and all seems fine. First time I dipped I also put about 10 drops in the "cup".. It didn't suck up all 10 drops and i just dipped again in the same cup ( as needed) until the drops were used up. Since I have been dipping there has been no flooding of the atomizer. My first atomizer is still going strong.. I just give it an alcohol bath, rinse, and blowout from time to time. I blow it out before bed as well.

When the unit stops producing much vapor, it is time to dip again so you don't dry smoke and burn up the atomizer. (In my experience so far, about 15-20 good puffs)

I'm sold. I think I'm going to have a very hard time going back to carts. This is a lot easier then trying to fill those little buggers. And need I even mention all those little poly fibers getting caught up on the atomizer.

The big thing for me, besides the fact that it works really well, is that I don't waste a drop. I swear I was throwing away half my fluid messing with that nasty polyester stuff. I now actually prefer my M402 over the M201, even though the M201 does give a bit better throat hit. Not unexpected for a pen over a mini. The ease of dipping more then makes up for it.

For all you dipping fans:

This is a great way to try out new flavors in very small batches. The juice flavors I use are from Eastmall 36mg.

In a contact case cup I made a tiny batch of:

Banana or Strawberry cream pie
5 drops banana or strawberry
4 drops cream
2 drops RY4(can leave this out if needed and still good)
2 drops VG
= YUMMY! (I plan to get some loraan's flavoring to match so I can cut it w/more VG to reduce the mg per ml)

Pralines and cream
6 drops Cream
1-2 drops loraans pralines and cream
2-4 drops VG
= yummy and rich

I want to do some other mini mixes like this to waste less liquid. When I find something really good, I convert amounts to go in to little 3cc=3ml bottles. perfect!

ROFL, I now have a shot glass by each of my computers at work and at home.

;) I have two diff contact cases. One always stays here and the other goes out with me. I have two flavor options always going. each contact case has higher nic in the "R" side, and lower nic in the "L" side. I drip about 10 drops.. When the atty eventually sucks it all up, I add another 10 drops. Right now I have coffeeVanilla mix in one case and Clove in the other. Clove or menthol will be going out with me tonight... not sure which one yet. I have the mixes in little 3cc/ml bottles.

Just like to say - this is definitely the way to go!

I've had my first ecig (an EVO) for 3 days now and got my first bottle of eliquid this morning (Ecopure). Dipping is even easier than changing carts, and the quality and consistency of the vapour is pretty much perfect.

One thing that surprises me is how long I can get good vapour from each dip. I can dip every 15 minutes or so, but even then I don't really need to. Perhaps because I vape much slower than I smoke, but I'd say I'm getting at least 20 consistent puffs from each dip. Maybe more.

Same for me:) I can also say that I STILL have not had an atomizer die from exclusively dipping. I am still using the first two and have 4 others on backup. I have had my m401 for 1 1/2 months and no atty deaths as of yet~_* The m401 is the only e-cig I use. I also have a passthrough and only dip with that... and no damage so far.
