No, not that Dr. Siegel...Dr. Marc Siegel, he of Fox News--and, of course, they that fancy themselves among the best and brightest, the intellectual elite, the benevolent and omniscient in our midst who want to save us from ourselves--is proposing that vaping has potential therapeutic value, but only if spoon fed to us by he and those like him qualified to make that decision for us:

It appears that Dr. Marc (not to be confused with *our* Dr. Siegel) is unaware that FDA tried and failed to get ecigs classed as a drug (delivery device). So they can't be "by prescription only." And does he realize that nicotine gum is available without prescription?

Dr. Marc needs to improve his research skills!

Fox has aired several positive e-cigarette spots in the past.
I noticed lately Fox continuing to side in favor of e-cigarettes but when
Dr. Marc Siegel is present and renders his opinions ... he opposes e-smoking.

The other day ...
I saw a spot on Fox where e-cigarettes was the topic
and given a very positive review ... Then Dr. Marc Siegel
vomited his garbage.

Odd to see the usual Fox pro-ecig comments immediately
followed by Dr. Marc Siegel's garbage opinions.

I commented on the article (pointing out Dr. Marc Siege's faulty numbers)

In the article, he claimed that the CDC study showed that 10% of the respondents were 'using' ecigs. In fact, the study said that 10% 'had tried them within the past year' and 3% had tried them 'within the past month'.

In other words, 70% of the kids who had tried them within the past year had not had one in the past month.

I also pointed out the drinking percentages from the same study.

"Twelve states including New York, California, and Colorado have laws preventing minors from purchasing e-cigarettes, but few are paying attention. Minors in those states can still purchase e-cigarettes on line, or borrow them from their parents."

lol... you can borrow cigarettes, alcohol and ...... from your parents too.

Obviously he dosn't have any faith in laws to keep people in line so the whole thing should be handed over to the medical profession of which he is one! Surprise surprise.
I kinda see where he is coming from, cigarettes are the enemy, ecigs combat cigs for smokers and all we have to do is restrict ecig use to current smokers so put someone in between the retailer and the customer to make sure that its a current smoker. But this presumes that the customer for the ecig wont be a customer for cigs if ecigs are not available to them. In other words the blinkered medicalization of smoking has made the health care worker blind to anything other than kill or cure.

Yes, and we all know the unblemished record the medical profession has for keeping a tight lid on Vicodin, Oxycodone and the like.

I asked:

Dr. Seigel,

Was it really necessary to write this lengthy piece supporting a premise that displays your utter ignorance regarding the subject?

In 2009 The FDA attempted to regulate eCigs as Drug Delivery Devices, seizing shipments at the ports. They were sued and lost... badly.

As a result, the FDA is now legally barred from regulating eCigs as Drug Delivery Devices.
