That sounds reasonable Cage but just to add a little complication ...

That is a way to work it out if you vape a steady dose throughout the day. What if you vape zero or low and have occasional spikes of high for a buzz?

I'm trying as much zero as I like, 1ml of 11 or 18mg and 0.5ml of 6mg per day. My 'allowance' is 24mg. So, what I mean is that it can be ok to use high nic eliquid as long as it isn't constant, it's more effective in small, spread out doses.

I'm a bit tired and don't know if I'm talking a load of old tripe now, sorry.

LOL...

That's what I'm wondering too Kate.
I would like to stick with a total "per day" value.
No matter how you slice it, it's still "x" amount per day.

My math somehow always manages to get skewed in the direction I want to go.
If 3 drinks a day is healthy, then that's 21 drinks a week, so I can pound almost a whole case on Saturday... (high school logic)

It was 2.40am when I wrote that last post ... I must learn to quit while I'm still making sense ;)

I usually work nicotine out per day Cage, any lesser amounts are just fiddly and probably inaccurate.

What I think I meant was that during the day it's not necessarily best to spread the dose evenly, lows and spikes seem to give more effect. Constant doses just build tolerance and cease to have effect.

It really would be nice to have even a close reference for beginners.
As we all know, we just don't smoke these things the same way, so it's difficult.
As far as nicotine intake, if a pack a day smoker vapes the equivalent:

20 drops equals = 1 pack = 1 ml per cart.
So if most users vape 2 ml a day (like me) then I have doubled my habit and my nicotine intake.

"An average cigarette gives 1mg of nicotine so the eliquid would have to be 10mg to equal one cigarette."

So if I cut my liquid to lower strength, say 5 mg, then I would be closer to my old pack a day nicotine intake while still vaping 2 ml a day!

Then this statement would be (close to) true?

"A pack a day smoker should get the equivalent smoke and nicotine from 1 medium nicotine level penstyle size cartridge."

Am I right? Anybody?

i dont thinks this is what is happening.. i can quote a three user experience over a long time...

i would say (we smoke 24 mg liquid) 2.5 ml per day equates with half an ounce of strong golden Virginia rolling tobbaco per day... this is not carts it actual liquid used..

this is our average over three people.. we all use about the same we all smoked about the same...

we long ago got over vaping for fun... its purely for "need"...

i dont think our nicotine "need" levels have gone up... my view is we dont get as much nicotine from e smoking as we are led to believe..

but its bloody hard to be sure..

Hi! I'm new to this e-cigarette deal. I just ordered my first kit (Joye510). I also want to buy some blank cartridges and e-juice. But I'm confused about the strength of e-juice. I normally smoke Winston One (0.1 ml nicotine) which has 10 times less strength than regular cigarettes. What kind of juice would be best for me? Should I buy the regular strength e-juice and 0mg e-juice to mix the two and make my own? If so, what strength do I need to make it to be equivalent to a 0.1 mg cigarette? Also, my husband smokes regular Winston--what strength I should get for him?

Very weird poll results 8-o

If I my calculations show that 1ml equals 60 or less puffs I would be a kind of concerned about the daily liquid doze.

With the 510 I get about 10-12 puffs per every 2 drops

which means 100-120 puffs per ml... I vape about 2-3 ml per day. That means
I get 200min-360max puffs per day... and something is wrong here as I think I actually do more puffs...

Anyway I`ll do the math again with 510 then with the evo and then I`ll vote:cool:

OK, here’s my spin on the original topic, plus what it has evolved into. All data is based on my own tests (e-cigs vs. analogs) and a study performed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health on analog cigs. Article here:
Nicotine Up Sharply In Many Cigarettes - washingtonpost.com

I use 901 e-cig3. I put in 3 drops (onto atty) approximately every half an hour – 10 to 20 puffs – about the same as one analog. I smoked about 30 analogs per day before e-cigs.

I use 36mg/ml juice, cut 2/3 juice to 1/3 VG, so I wind up with approximately 24mg/ml juice. At 21 drops per ml, I am getting 7 uses (3 ½ hours) out of 1mg of my juice. In a 16 hour vaping day, I use about 4.5mg of juice. This comes out to around 110mg of nicotine per day (vaping).

The study referred to in the link above found that “on average” one cigarette delivers almost 2mg of nicotine per cigarette. Camel unfiltered and Newport 100’s delivered about 3mg of nicotine per cigarette. I smoked generic full flavored 100’s, so I am using 2mg/cig as my intake.

Therefore, 30 cigs times 2mg each equals 60mg of nicotine per day. Vaping (from figures above) shows that I am getting 110mg per day. Almost twice what I got from analogs.

In real terms, I don’t use 4.5mg per day, though. There are several times a day that my “1/2 hour pattern” is broken, so my usage is actually less. My wife and I both vape, and we go through a 15ml bottle every 3 days – about 5mg/day between the two of us. I vape about 25% more than she does, so I actually go through about 2.75mg-3.0mg per day. As such, I am getting around 67mg of nicotine per day – about what I got from analogs.

Now, 24mg/ml juice is the high strength, so (after my cut) I will be using 16mg/ml juice in the future. That will reduce my intake of nicotine to just over 40mg/day (assuming that I don’t increase my usage). We’ll see.

In addition to the “off times” explained above, I also find that the length of each vaping session has decreased. Oftentimes, I just take 3 or 4 puffs and then set my 901 down. At this point, it seems that I have unconsciously self-regulated my nicotine intake to the same as I had with analogs. It stands to be seen whether my vaping will increase as my juice strength is being reduced.

Just my experiences on the subject. As to the original topic, based on the above data (figuring an average of 15 puffs per 3 drops), I figure that I get about 100 puffs per ml of juice. 75 good hits, and 25 acceptable (but less vapor) hits.

I'm just thinking that it would be useful to have some figures on how many draws/puffs we usually get from cartridges/eliquid.

Traders often claim a pack of cigs worth from a cartridge (whatever size ) and that doesn't seem to reflect real life for most of us. Everyone is different, we have different techniques, take different types of draw for different lengths of time but I'm interested in seeing if there will be an average here.

As a general guide:

1ml is around the amount of eliquid in a classic/penstyle cartridge (don't forget to make allowances for liquid that doesn't get used)
DSE901 cartridges hold around 0.5ml
Super minis are usually around 0.3ml
There are approximately 20-25 drops in 1ml

Please could you take a little time and try to work out how many draws/puffs you get from 1ml.

If you're not reasonably sure please don't vote, it will make the results unreliable.

Thank you.

I am definitely not voting, cuz I'm such a newbie with no research behind me. But, I can put my 2 cents in on the drops per ML. And, my background on this is as a paramedic who has used different types of tubing for IVs. Some are set at 10 drops per ML, some are 15 drops per ML, and some are 60 per ML. And, the syringe, or dropper opening is going to give different results or drop size depending. So, each individual tester would first need to start with drops per ml with their equipment if using the drip method.

Please excuse this input if you have already considered this. This is intended for those who are not accustomed to using droppers, and ml measurments. This is a very interesting thread. It reminds me of drug calcuations, and drip rate charts.

Good point. I've mentioned this before. One can probably get 20% more drops from a simple flat-end syringe than a dropper.

But surly special mechanism is required to get 60 drops/ml ...?

In 'normal' (familiar) free-fall dropping, the aperture hold can only make so much difference, and depend on the material and contact area with the drop.

Some slightly crazy number crunching here: Technical Repository - Facts and Figures

Yup, it's called Micro drip IV tubing. The drops are so small they are difficult to detect unless you look close.
