OK..with an auto there is a hole in the threades in so you can draw air into it to make it work, when you drip you might over do or get some down the center post(a strawlike dealy in the center of the carto) to see this, take the rubber end off a carto and look) If the liquid drips down into an auto batt it can gum it up and stop it from working.
With a manual that center hole in the battery is sealed..it doesn't need air drawn thru it to make it work (that's what the button is for) so there isn't a chance of getting juice into the battery.
You can drip in from the drip tip, just be more careful with an auto.I did say tilt the tip because if juice gets into the center post..you could get a bit of juice in the mouth..not fatal...lol but distasteful.
