with the wicking and bridge removed and my few drops run out, i get a burn your throat harsh nasty taste. i wouldnt say burnt plastic, maybe some other burning substance. anyway its definitly smoke, a hazy blue smoke i blow out ofter this happens and it looks almost like cigarette smoke and lingers the same. im thinking maybe its the dry flavor sugars burning off at that point from old dry juice buildup on the atty. its definitly not vapor.
That's exactly what I thought it would be.
Does anyone disagree with this?

I just tried this with an old Totally Wicked atty like the one used.
I removed the bridge and cleaned the atty before hand.
Added a drop directly and the first few draws where dry, hot and kind of odd tasting.
Almost as bad as a hot boxed cigarette !
.......Not enough juice !........
I fed it 4 drops initially (did not drown !).
Personally not impressed on a 3.7v.
It was a bang on my 5 v Passthrough, using a gutted whistle tip.
I had to draw fast, kind of warm but the flavor bang is nice. A load of vapor.
Oh yeah, just leave your dripper bottle open !
You'll need it ! LOL

EDIT:

Well after about an hour I began to grow more accustomed to this no bridge atty.
Excellent flavor.
The reason this atty works better on the 5v than the 3.7 is apparently due to the atty itself.
It checks at 4.3 ohms.
Dead atty ? The element glows as orange as I have seen.
I wish I had checked it before removing the bridge to see if it was this high.

Overall not bad, not bad at all.

I have to disagree with this only because of my personal habits. I know within 2 hits when it's time to drop more juice so I don't get any burned or nasty taste at all. I'm' now using my new Ego to do this with and have the same results. I love it. In fact, the only down side is that it makes my cartomizers and carts taste worse because the flavor I get from this dripping method is heads and shoulders above them and without the bridge material I got rid of that (what I defined as) nasty taste. I'm sure it's very subjective as most things are when dealing with taste/smell.

That's exactly what I thought it would be.

I'll chime in here since I'm a direct dripper who rips bridges and wicks out of all my brand-new 510 atomizers. Yeeha :)

If you're using standard 510 atomizers and it's pretty clean and you vape it till it's dry, you won't taste a thing... at least I don't. If your atty is all black with residue from your day's vaping, you'll get a slightly burnt taste.

If you're using low-resistance 510 atomizers and it's pretty clean and you vape it till it's dry, you'll get a burning sensation in your throat as the fibers inside the coil (it's fiber with wire wrapped around it) is probably burning. If your atty is all black with residue from your day's vaping, you'll get a slightly burnt taste.

HOWEVER. If you rip out the bridge and wick, the taste of the vapor is very strong. As soon as the taste weakens, you'll know it's time to drip again. It's very, very easy to monitor - you don't have to think about it. You'll just take an unsatisfying vape, then drip. You can totally avoid any burnt taste with a little practice.

Keep in mind that you can actually see the entire coil. It's much easier to clean, you don't have to worry about the coil running dry and dying out. When you want to clean the atomizer in a hurry, you just dry burn it while constantly blowing into it, and keep going until the entire coil burns orange. And you have a totally, totally clean atomizer. Practice the routine of dripping, vaping, dry burning, and you're set.

The whole thing about people wanting to keep the coil moist is because when you have a bridge, you can't see the whole coil. So you just keep using it, and it pops and dies. With no bridge, not only can you see the coil, but there's more airflow so you can just hold that button when you dry burn, keep blowing in the atty and just make that thing GLOW. I have never had an atomizer die on me and I fry those suckers until they cry mommy.

As for leakage, that simply means you have too many drops in your atty. The way to avoid leaks is to put 2 drops in a clean atomizer, and only put a drop at a time after that. You'll be taking 2 or 3 puffs, then adding a drop. Anything more and you'll get some leaks.

Being a clean and efficient dripper is fun and easy to do with a little practice. The tradeoff for all this constant dripping between vapes is that the atomizer is easier to maintain and clean, you get clean taste, there's no question of 'is there a method that gives tastier vapor?' - as direct dripping is the end of the road where methods are concerned.

If in doubt, try it on an old atomizer that you're giving up on. Rip it up, dry burn while blowing into it, and give it a go :)

Happy vaping!

I've actually started using 510's again after trying a old one I had shelved due to nasty taste that didn't want to go away --took that bridge out and huge difference.

I take the bridge out of every one I get now, taste is actually comparable to a 901 to me.
Don't have problems with leaking either unless I'm not paying attention and do it twice in a row (usually when playing a video game) lmao

I wish Joye would start making bridgeless atties a option lol

Good tips folks.

I have been vaping a 5 volt PT with a bridge striped atty (4.3 ohm) all day.....
I can tell when it's running dry the taste changes drastically.
I could get use to this real easy, I guess what it boils down to is personal preference.

The vapes seem to be tastier in comparison with a 3.7V using a 2.3 ohm atty with the bridge intact and a cartridge.

It's nice to have variety !

I just read this about a hour or 2 ago. Thought it over, grabbed my 510...~ripped it out~.

Wowowow~ Flavor went up a good 30% and TH went up a good 50% lil warmer vape too, I like it .. More like a Anolog. This is on 3.7 Allot more nic hitting me as well. I could vape my fav liquid here at 24mg all day w/o getting the spins.. Not anymore! 5-7 pulls and I have to set it down now.. Went after 2 more attys and I now like cola and vanutala that I didn't like on a cart.

I also took note it takes 4-5 drops to get it ready. I think its filling the remaining mesh and you never saw it before with the bridge obstructing your view of what the liquid was doing. After that 2 drops or so to re-juice. (to all the "wasted juice posts")

Good thread and thanks!

I've been using stock stuff, as recommended -- refilling carts, cleaning my atty, etc. I recently had an experience where one of my atty's physically separated -- i read about removing bridge and wick and figured that I'd go ahead and give it a shot, since the atty was dead (for all intents and purposes). Well, best idea I've had ever! Like Ourei said, it takes all the thinking out of the whole process. I put three drops on the coil and get two/three good hard draws off of it, enough so that I'm choking on vapor. :D

This will probably be my home vaping atty, since it has a tendency to come apart in pieces. With the atty housing being separated, it's easy as sin to to just lift that part off and drip onto the coil. So what started out as a bad thing inevitably ended up becoming my best experience ever. Woot. Oh, yeah, I don't recommend dripping tasty vapor's atomic cinnacide onto it, unless you absolutely love pain. Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeezus it's strong as hell when you coil drip it!:laugh::laugh:

OMG!!
The influence you people have on me!!
I got inpatient and just did it.
Took Ourei's advice and fired it up while blowing into it and we have VAPOR!!
I'm sitting at a reception desk in the lobby of a hospital, on the clock right now and just did this mod, LOL!!
Few minutes I'll be clocking out so I'll drip when I get to the car and try it out on the way home.

....oh who am I kidding, I'm probably going to jump in the bathroom and test it. Will post later how it goes.

The only thing I can't figure out is when you guys say you get "two or three" good puffs on the 2-3 drops. I get way more than that and I'm wondering if I'm not as heavy of a smoker as I thought I was or are we defining things differently. I'll vape on my bridgeless for a while before having to re-drip. Either way, I'm sticking to it, it does make a difference.

I tried some juices that really wasn't doing it for me before and they taste a little better, but TH is really harsh, almost painful.
I think I'm still working out getting it working the best it should. Always seems to take a little practice with a new technique.
I'm thinking the harsh TH may be related to nic livels. TH seems alot smoother (to me) with my 0nic juices compared to the 18mg juices that are hurting my throat.

At times it seems like there is some inconsistency to performance after dripping, maybe juice has to get in to the coil?
Seems it starts out with low vapor production and harsh TH and/or burnt taste. Then I get lots of vapor on a puff but little is seen when I exhale, then see alot when exhaling and things will perform smooth for several drags.

I do the dry burn before changing flavors and I'm thinking it is better to do so on a PT, seems my batts are not lasting as long. I think it may be the longer sustained dry burns compared to the short and pulsed burns you do with standarn atty configuration?

Also looks like 1-2 drops is sufficient as opposed to 2-3 drops before bridge removal. I do also firmly believe its a matter of "ymmv". Probably each atty and user are a little different and yield slightly different results.

Now I ask this, when I look inside the atty I see what appears to be hairs attached to the ends of the coil. The wicking material right? Does anyone remove these? Does it really matter?
Also I pulled out what mesh material I could but not all, just jammed what I had left along the edges. How much do you guys remove and does it seem to matter?

Dead on right!

I pull the wicking material out. I don't like to see it burn. I can't say you SHOULD, I just do.

The mesh is the same, I pull every bit I can out, what there is left gets neatly pushed out to the edges.

On the taste and TH, I've noticed some juices I just can't take and some are awesome. It's still going to come down to personal taste and types of juices.

Wow, some of you are taking the plunge and ripping out bridges! Kudos to you! Even if you have a less-than-mediocre experience, I believe it's very educational - you learn a bit about your atomizers :)

:offtopic:
I'll add some info here for those of you who are getting into bridgeless dripping, since this will help many of you in the thread. For those of you who don't direct drip on your coils, this is a look into the routine, so you can see if it's something you want to try! Here goes:

About the mesh in the atomizer, you don't have to pull any of it out if you're scared. As long as the bridge is pulled out, you can drip right on it. The mesh will simply hold liquids, which can affect the taste, so any mesh sticking out that you can twist/cut with the tweezers to get out will help, but it's not necessary.

The stuff in the bottom of the atomizer is connected with 2 wires to the threaded part on the very bottom, and there's some room for play, so if, while pulling out the bridge, you notice everything is moving up, stop and push it all down with the tweezers. Wiggle the bridge and try to get it out without pulling up the bottom. If you have 2 tweezers, you can hold down the bottom parts (the coil in the tub, the surrounding mesh) with one tweezer, while yanking out the bridge with the other tweezer.

There's only 2 things to being a direct dripper - ripping up your atomizer, and cleaning/dry burning it. I'll address the cleaning part in this post for those of you who have already pulled out the bridge :)

Cleaning the atty:
1 - Blow through the top.
Place the bottom, threaded end of the atomizer in a tissue. You're going to blow through the top, and liquid will come out through the airholes around the threads into the tissue. First, blow as long as you can - doesn't have to be hard - but blow, and listen to the sound... you'll hear gurgling, and other stuff. Blow over and over until things sound clear, or until you run out of breath. Check the tissue. If there's liquid, you should keep blowing. You can actually blow until little to no liquid is on the tissue. Just do it until you tell yourself you're done. If you want, blow until your cheeks puff out, and then squeeze your cheeks in to force air through the atomizer. If you can't do this, that's fine, but it helps. The point is to just get as much liquid as you can out of the atomizer. For really tough, oily liquids (like Atomic Cinnacide, Clove, Pizza, etc) the more you blow, the better!

2 - Blow through the bottom.
Now wipe the threads good, and blow from that end (the bottom) into the tissue, which you'll now be holding over the top end. It's harder to blow from this end, but you just want to clear the airholes of any liquid. So you don't have to blow too hard or too much. Just listen for any gurgling noise and blow until it sounds clear. If you're hardcore, blow really hard (use the puff-cheeks-and-squeeze method) and you'll actually get a lot of juice out. It might not show on the tissue, but look inside the atomizer and you'll see juice all over the inner walls. The mesh surrounding the tub actually has liquid in it. Again, just blow until you're impatient :)

3 - Wipe inside the atomizer.
This step is easy, and it makes dry burning the atomizer faster. Just twist up a dry part of the tissue, and stuff it into the atomizer. Just get it as far in as you can, and stuff as much tissue as you can into it. Twist the tissue and the atomizer back and forth to wipe the inner walls, the coil, the tub, the mesh stuff - and you're done. If you want, take out the tissue, wad up another clean area of it, and do it again. The cleaner your atomizer, the more of the taste you'll get out of the previous liquid.

and finally,
4 - Dry burn.
In this step, keep blowing constantly. If you stop to take a breath, let go of the button. Blowing whenever you hold the button is the important part :)

Wipe the threads of the atomizer, screw it on the battery, look into the atomizer and hold the button. Blow into the atomizer while it's burning to clear out the vapor. It'll help cool the atomizer a bit, and you can watch it. When part of it glows orange, you can let go of the button, but keep blowing to cool the coil a bit. After a second or two, hold the button, keep blowing. Go until everything glows orange. Keep blowing and you can press the button, let go, press, let go - when everything is orange, you're done!

----------------

You now have a very, very, very clean atomizer, and I bet you can see WHITE inside the coil. Haha you are so going to enjoy your next vape :)

Okay. Something to remember is to shake your bottle before dripping. Especially, especially with harsh juices like atomic cinnacide. Many juices separate when sitting, and you'll pay the price if you don't shake it first!

Shake.

Now put 2 drops in that clean atomizer, and take a vape. If you had a nasty juice in there before, your first few vapes may have a slight leftover taste. But you can bet it'll be gone soon. There's no such thing as a 'flavor that never goes away' when you have a bridgeless, wickless atomizer. You're in the big leagues now :)

This deep-cleaning of the atomizer can take about a minute or two of your time, and if you're really fussy (like me) you can do it between every single flavor you're using. Even if it means 10 to 20 times in one day. Or if you're lazy (like I sometimes am) you can do it once a day. You'll know it's time to clean your atomizer when you have a taste that won't go away, or you notice it's harder to inhale (meaning there's juice saturated in the mesh area surrounding the ceramic tub). Also if you have a nasty throat hit with your vape, there's a number of reasons - your coil is dirty, you didn't shake your bottle or... wait for it... you're actually tasting the juice full strength (which means next time, get a lower nicotine version!)

I might not have covered everything but I think I did. I'll be happy to help out anyone either in this thread, through private messages, or you can find me living on ECF chat (notice the link on the top of every page that says 'live chat' you just click it and it takes you right to me haha :)

Awesome post, thanks.
Now I had a thought, is it really detrimental to remove the bridge?
Just curious.

I think too that your advice about nic content applies to me. TH has been devastating me since doing this and the lower the nic the smoother my vapes. I'm finding 0mg is the most enjoyable for me so far.

Jury is out on that one for me. I'm still testing. Two with bridge, two without. Still going strong and kicking vapor.
The one thing that stood out for me today was that the drip tip gently covers the bridge and the liquid pours evenly on the bridge and down to it's destination on the coil. Without the bridge the liquid pours over the whole interior of the atty. Nothing remarkable there, just pure observation. We'll see which one dies first, if any.

Awesome post, thanks.
