Dripping help for a noobie

Being new still to this lifestyle of vaping I've never tried the "dripping" method before and I want to try it out but I dont know what I need. Do you use an atomizer or cartomizer or can you use either one? Also, what set-up is best to use on a 1000 mah ego twist? (Ohms?) Once I have that part figured out then I just need a drip tip right? 510 compatible? God I hope i'm making sense so far lol. I want to try dripping because it seems like an easier and cheaper way to sample different juices in small amounts then it is to buy a bunch of tanks or clearos to fill up and clean out everytime I want to try some new juice. I only own 1 tank and 1 clearo and its a pain in the .... to keep swapping out juice if I dont want to finish whats in the tank and its dumn to only put in enough juice to wet the wick. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Drip on your atomizer, not cartomizer. I recommend using a drip tip. Don't use more than 4 drops of juice on your atomizer or it will leak. Sample video you can watch:

I copied this from a post I made to another member.The ohms don't matter because you have adjustable voltage. I would personally get one between 2.0 and 3.0 ohms.

You would need a 510 (or 306)threaded atomizer and a compatable drip tip. This would connect to your battery. This is the most labor intensive and sometimes messy way to vape. It is in my opinion the most flavorful and satisfying. You would first blow out any primer that may be in a new atomizer (not all atomizers are primed) and put three-five drops of liquid inside to start. Put on drip tip and vape. Usually good for 5-8 "puffs" depending on vaping style. Then repeat with 2-3 drops when flavor/vapor diminishes. I like to remove the drip tip to drip because a lot of times the liquid hangs up in the tip and doesnt reach the bridge. When you go to vape,you'll get a mouthful of liquid.Not pleasant.

The messy part is having to somewhat frequently "blow out" the atomizer. Remove from battery, and blow through into a napkin , paper towel or rag. Some like to clean before changing flavors. I usually just put a new flavor on top of the old and "vape through".
Also, you would want to soak your atomizers in alcohol (not isopropyl) , I use vodka or pure grain alcohol as that helps to loosen buildup on the coil.
There are numerous threads on how to make your atomizer last and perform at its best for as long as possible.
Now ,after that explanation, doesn't dripping sound enticing? Well, it isn't for everyone but is a good technique to learn and master as I stated ,the flavor and vapor are great from dripping. You just always need tissues with you or a microfiber cloth to dab everything clean .
For that reason many are turned off by it.

I just drip with the following: Regular ego, regular 510 atty, and a drip tip. I did de-bridge the atty (took off the little bar/mesh running across the top). That way you drip right on the heating element. There are several youtube videos on how to de-bridge an atty if you care to try it. Dripping does give you a better tasting and fuller hit.

Add 3-4 drops, vape till it seems out, repeat. If you flood the atty it will get juice everywhere (have tissue ready just in case.)

What Nurzrachit said. Almost went into a ditch one time when I spilled a few drops. It's just as bad as texting, drinking, swatting at bees, or trying to wipe off the burning cherry under your .... if you still smoke them real cigs...

This is how I set up my dripping atties:

#1 510-510 sealed shorty extension
#2 atomizer
#3 drip shield
#4 drip tip

With an eGo type battery you do not need the shorty extension, and will need a drip shield cone instead of a drip shield. (fits over the eGo threads)
Many vendors have the shields, I get mine from EmpireMods.com. Believe me the shields are worth their weight in gold, and pretty much eliminate all the mess that many associate with dripping.

I was going to ask this in a new thread, but it might be useful for the OP as well: do you need to debridge your atty? I've been doing that, but I think I may have destroyed a couple last night that had a very thick mesh on them, and I wasn't perhaps as gentle as I needed to be.

Do you need to de-bridge, or is it just advantageous in some way?

No you don't have to. But, with a normal 510 atty I would suggest dewicking. (The wick material that is right under the bridge) Many of the off brand atties don't have that wicking material, so you don't have to do anything to them.

I destroyed 2 attys trying to de-bridge them, so I purchased 2 already de-bridged. After using both types for several months,m I honestly can't say one works better than another. IMO, of course!

I got bored with the constant drip, drip drip. They do outlast cartos, but they ARE both cheap. It's carto tanks for me

Dripping is the best way to test juices. It's definitely a drag when you fill a tank full of juice that tastes like stank.

It's funny, I got the archemedes 5 ml tank from Madvapes, and it lasted me about 5 days before the carto died, I found some old blu cartos I had in a box that I cleaned ages ago, and I'm still on one of the 4 I had after two weeks. I don't know whether I should just chock it off as a bad carto, or a noob mistake on my own behalf.

Taste is so subjective that just because I think dripping tastes better doesn't imply that you will think it tastes better.
I drip probably 90% of the time, and most of my dripping atomizers are over a year old. I think I went through about a half dozen atties learning how to drip, and what I could get away with and what I couldn't, but after that I think I have only had one die of old age. If a person doesn't learn what they can't get away with, atomizers won't last any longer than cartos.

EXACTLY my point. This and testing out different nic strengths is the main reason I want to learn how to do this properly. Seems much easier then messing with full tanks of juice all the time. Drip, Puff, move on to the next.

Yup it's great. I use a phoenix rba right now. It's great just to rebuild it for a few cents when it gets old. For you it may not be so good if you don't have an ohm meter.

Not all juices taste better via dripping. But, it's still a decent way to get an idea of what a juice tastes like or in my case I will use a drip atty for what I consider novelty flavors. Ones I really don't want to fill an entire carto or clearo. I just want a few puffs. For me, that would be minty or fruity vapes. I have a caramel candy that tastes horrid dripping, but I love it in a carto.

I've gone through 2 atty's in one day. I've had them last a week and I've had them last many weeks. Depends on the atty, what type of juice you use and your usage of it. For inexpensive 510 atty's, I will only buy Joyetech atty's. I have had such bad luck with the cheaper no name 510 atty's. And, I prefer standard resistance over low resistance. I don't care for bridgeless atty's but many swear by them.

Thanks for the advice Buggs! I'm gonna bite the bullet and pick up an atty with some carto's just in case.

Dripping into a carto is basically priming and it helps keep the whole carto wet so for me it tastes better. Tastes more like the first few drags So I drip anyway. The stuff slides down the sides of the tip and never has gone in the hole so far. I also have a Joye 510 standard atty about 2.00 ohms? Or more and use it too. Mainly for expensive juice like my WTA and some stronger nicotine juice to get my fix ( so called cigarettes worth) and move on to lower nic in my tanks for casual lower nic vaping while I'm doing the computer or reading or other things when i don't want to be interrupted. Right now I'm waiting for drip shield. Had to get an adapter to use a shield too btw
