Dripping on a ZMAX

Hello,

Been vaping now for about four months and am just about to upgrade to first VV (ZMAX) :p

I have never dripped before but want to try it so I can sample lots of different flavours easily without having to keep putting different flavours in my tanks or carts.

could anyone recommend the best device to drip on a ZMAX

Also I have just heard about drip shields, do I need one and if so do any devices have them built in or part of a kit

many thanks in advance,

Steve.

Welcome, Steve! I've never used a ZMAX, but a page I saw it on says it's 510, so a standard 510 atty should be fine to drip with.
Have never heard of a drip shield, but it looks like a variation of a cone on a KGO, which I'm guessing would not fit? Maybe someone more knowledgeable will be along to answer. Having said that, I don't use the cone when I drip. It's really not that difficult getting the juice to land in the hole of the atty. :)
Good luck with the device! It looks pretty sweet. :thumb:

The Zmax has a deep drip well so you shouldn't need a drip shield. If you want to use one anyway, the three drip shields I have fit fully down into the well past the 510 connector so you won't need the 510-510 adapter normally required. Any 510 atomizer will do; but with the ZMax I would NOT recommend a low resistance variety. I say that because the ZMax is not even close to accurate in the lower voltages and it's known to be off by > 1V. Another thing to the ZMax is the base isn't flush and so it wobbles and rocks when you stand it up If you plan to set it on a table or desk while you drip, it will provide a moving target.

I would really not reccomened the ZMax. Do a LOT of reading before you commit to the purchase.

Here's a review I wrote on it: ZMax Review

A Follow-Up to that review: Follow Up

And here's a whole thread deditacted to the ZMax: Smoktech ZMax Owners - Pics., Tips, Tricks and Quirks

I'm about to post yet another follow up as well, When I picked up my Zmax to respond to your question I heard a rattle. When I unscrewed the bottom cap the positive connector was just rattling around in side. It's fallen off the logic board....

Cheers for the quick response guys.

What would you recommend if not the ZMAX then, I know everyone raves about the provari bust cannot justify spending that much. The Mrs could buy loads of shoes with that sort of money !!!
Has anybody had a positive experience with the ZMAX ???
Also can anybody recommend a specific 510 atty.

Steve.

Of course, some people couldn't be happier with their ZMax. It seems like the failure rate is high though. So, be warned before you take the plunge.

If you're just looking to get an idea of what VV is all about you can't go wrong with an eGo twist I have two and use them all the time. I also have a Provari that get's a lot of use (usually with my Odysseus). When I drip (pretty much what I do all day at work), I use a Silver Bullet with a kick in it and a long barrel HH.357 on top. It does require a 510-510 connector to use my drip shield (most mods do) but it works well.

If you're gonna go to a vv device fine but for dripping just use whatever you were using and screw a 510 LR 1.7 ohm atty on. I'm assuming your first device had a 510 head on it. If you're just using it to sample flavours and not as a standard way of vaping this should work out fine. Also a Smoktech drip shield for $ 3 works great. A cone will not prevent leakage. If you have to put a 510 for dripping on your new vv device don't use a LR one, get something in the 2.4 or 2.8 resistance range and even then don't crank up the voltage, no more than say 4.5 ohm.

I've been a long time Vmaz and now Zmax user. I have recommended this to any vaper i bump to.

Coming off a Lava v2, this VV/VW mod sure packs a punch. I agree that you need to stay away from LR atties, because this mod will simply annihalate it. :)

I use a bully version2 stainless RA on my Zmax at 2.8 ohms. I get the awesome warmth, taste and flavor that i am looking for. Use it in Variable wattage and slap on other tanks and you will get the same heavenly vape.

I do have an ego and a full mech flashlight mod to take care of business on the LR side of things.

@Stephen, you can rebuild them or get the 1.8 ohm head. Vape on bro!

Hi Steve,
Yeah, I've had a very positive experience with the Zmax. Mine doesn't wobble at all. Stands perfectly upright, no problem. I think the very first ones had that issue, but those were mainly for testers. I got mine from Mad Vapes:Smoktech Zmax Variable Volt APV They also do a cheaper Acrylimax, which is just the same but the outer casing is acrylic. They look quite nice and are selling fast - $80 for the same thing. The only difference is the Acrylimax doesn't take Ego threads. The Zmax has a deep recess which allows Ego threads to sit in it.
You should be able to use any 510 atty. The thing with the Zmax is that it does hit higher than the displayed volts - once you know that you just start low and work up to your desired taste.
The best feature of the Zmax is the variable wattage though - start off at 3.5-4 watts and work up to what you like. The Zmax will read the resistance of your atty/carto/clearo and adjust the voltage. So you can vape at the watts you like and just change the delivery system.

Apart from the provari, vv devices are not always accurate on the readouts - but that's not a problem - you just set it where you like it and vape at that setting.

I don't see how anyone can claim there is a "high" failure rate of they don't have the numbers. There have been some issues for a few people - who got their Zmaxs replaced.

You don't need LR on a Zmax, and it is a higher hitting device. I find it best with 2.5-3.2 ohms. I generally use 2.8 or 3.0 ohms myself. Get an atty in that range. And yes, you could get a drip shield. I have ordered a new one for my Zmax. A 3.5 ml vivi nova looks good on them too.

(Edit: Just popped back in to add that this is an APV (advanced personal vaporiser), and the OP has been vaping for a while. These devices aren't for new vapers who don't know much about pvs or battery safety).

I'll post a pic of mine here for you. Click on the pics for a bigger view.
