hello fellow vapers, I have been vaping 2 years now, and 100% tobacco free for 2 years :). I have been doing DIY for the past 18 months or so. I usually chain vape all day around 10 mils a day sub ohm (.4 - .5 ohm builds & around 30-35 watts), but all of a sudden I'm vaping the other day and develop what feels like a dry, irritated / like a swollen throat.

I used FA cookie at 2.5% stand alone (max VG) because I was virtually out of everything else until my order came in. I have used cookie in the past and remember it had a very dry irritating taste, and thought maybe it was because I did not let it steep.

So I put the vaping down for the night. Yesterday, I wake up and my throat was seeming a little bit better, so I decided to try a quick recipe since my order had just arrived. I mixed up some of Hic's Heart Of Andes, and made that at (20pg/80vg).

First toot, ughh Same thing, throat feels like it is very irritated, what the heck is this? No coughing or anything like a runny nose, it's not even sore, just irritated feeling. Anybody have similar problems? I admit the first time it happened I probably wasn't fully hydrating myself as I should chain vaping at 35W. But this go round, I was fully hydrated. Btw, This is a .4 ohm dual 26g kanthal build in a mutation RDA.

My wife takes Nicorette Lozinges, and those held me off for the rest of the day. I haven't mixed anything else up yet, as I am contemplating on quitting vaping now! :( Now I had some stand alone cap sweet strawberry that was just fully steeped @8% (20pg/80vg) that I put in my tfv4 tank, and running at 20w seems a little irritating as well, but it is bearable when I drink A LOT of water with it, and don't chain Vape it.

Anybody else in the same boat here, or am I the only one here who's uvula likes to kiss on my tongue? Seriously, has anyone had this happen to them before? I guess I am kind of confused if I should put the vaping down for a bit and just take these Lozinges? It seems to clear up after about a few hours of me not vaping. However, my uvula (insert joke here  :)) is still hanging a bit low, and just touching the back of my tongue at all times. It is just very irritating, and I feel constant dryness in my throat the past few days.

I highly, highly doubt that I am allergic to anything because I have made 50/50 70/30 80/20 max VG mixes, and I have vaped all of the flavorings in the past with absolutely no prolemo. This is just weird, but I would really hope someone could chime in and help a fellow vaper out.

My guess is that it was irritated due to dehydration from the cookie the other day, and that it hasn't fully recovered, and everytime I go back to vaping it just gets irritated again. This makes the most sense to me, but I just wanna get back to doing what I love best, and that's making some juice and vaping. :(

Thank you

I developed a sensitivity to a large number of flavors, including some of my favorites, after about 2 1/2 years of vaping. Throat irritation now keeps me away from a number of flavors as well as higher flavoring percentages. A friend has recently had a set of cold-like symptoms that he tracked down to flavorings, to the point he only vaped unflavored for a few months and is just now introducing a bit of flavor to each batch.

It would be a good idea to use unflavored for a bit and see if that settles things down. If so, you can start going back to flavors, maybe cut in half at first, until you can nail down which ones work fine, which ones are for the occasional taste and which you need to avoid.

I hope this is mild and temporary, so you can enjoy most of the flavors you've found tasty. Even in small percentages, they can still be effective.

Thanks for the response, that sucks to hear as well. I wish you good luck as well. I guess am going to whip up some unflavored tomorrow. I'm just curious when you say sensitivity, what are your issues that happen? Are they similar to what I am explaining here? Hard to swallow feeling, swollen throat feeling, dry throat feeling etc...?

A harsh burning, tightening in the back of my throat. It ends up raw for some time before it settles down. It started with some fruits, especially citrus, but expanded to many flavors including my favorite RY4's. I never specifically thought about my uvula (lol) being involved until I read your post, but that's pretty much where it starts for me too, going back from there.

One thing about light or no flavorings is that coils last seemingly forever!

Yup, same exact symptoms as me! I was close to grabbing my sons Epi pen I thought my throat was swelling shut the first time, lol it was pretty scary. It's so weird, how that can happen after vaping flavors so long without any allergies. I mostly vape fruit flavors, and don't mess with the custard/buttery stuff. Although I do miss Cap's Vanilla Custard V1. I just can't and won't mess with any of the bad stuff. So I try to make mostly Flavour Art recipes.

I tried to make a TFA caramel ry4 diy recipe when I first started mixing, smelled amazing, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. I probably didn't let it steep long enough, as I am sure that needed a long steep. But started mixing other stuff and forgot about it. I might go back to it and see how it is after this uvula clitorous dangly thingy in my throat decides to go back in place lol. I am usually very light on flavor percentages as well so yeah I'm still baffled. Hoping this don't last long. But hey, unflavored probably the best route anyways. Like you said less coil gunk, and less clitorous tongue dangles

Every few months I find a flavor that I really like and I'll put it in a dripper. I tend to vape it exclusively but after about 6 or more hours, my throat tends to get exactly as you described. I have to quit and go back to my tanks and mouth to lung to get it back to normal. My latest find was basic XIK V2. I just love that stuff in my sub-ohm devices, but it doesn't like me (long-term). So I've started using it in my Kayfuns and it is just as good to me that way. I'd like to sub-ohm, but my throat doesn't.

One of my buddies at a local vape shop said I just need to drink more water since the vapor tends to dry you out more.

I was So Happy to read this post.. not that you are all having throat issues.. but I have had the same thing happen a few months ago. I was trying a very low sub ohm coil on my Sapor.. and didn't realize the juice dried out and took a huge nasty dry hit to the back of my throat... ever see the cartoons when smoke comes out your ears.. that was me. Since then.. my throat.. mainly the back of my throat and the dangly thing... I like calling it the dangly thing.. have been sore and red looking. I took a break from vaping for a few months.. and went back to some of my favorites.. I am good with the creamy blends... but I now find that doing the very fruity.. citrus type blends are well not good at all. I have found a perfect set up..that lets me vape still get good clouds and nice flavor without the throat burn... I took an iSub tank.. the poly one.. and bought some 2.0 coils for it all from MVS. While this is not sub ohming.. it does give me the same pleasure without the burn effect. I also recently bought an iSub Apex tank and am running the 0.5 coil in it at around 22 to 25 watts. I am running some MOO vanilla almond at high VG and that seems to work great as well. Broke out my bottle of Black Cherry figuring things had gone back to normal and that was not good. I was coughing so hard my wife had the life insurance company on hold so she could file the claim.

I find that I get vapors tongue super fast lung inhaling, and when I mouth to lung at under 20 watts, I usually get the flavor back (depending on the flavors). I bought all of my nic for dripping since that's what I've been doing the past year or so. So, all I have is 4mg nic in 100% VG base. I cut it down to 3 with some pg and flavorings and I'm good to go. But, I am hoping this is just a virus and goes away, I just bought $100 worth of diy flavors, hate to waste em'. I might have to bust out the iclear 30's and go down to 2mg mouth to lung, but I will say these Nicorette lozenges have worked great for me the past couple days. I usually chain vape all day at 3mg. Today, I took a few puffs lung inhaling & mouth to lung at 20w and throat started acting up again. I been sucking on 2mg Lozenges for about 5-10 minutes, spit it out, and repeat every 30 minutes. No Vape cravings at all, and definitely no urge to pick up a cig. You might want to get a thing of lozinges just to have as a back up if the kayfun decides to cause any irritations,

That's good to hear, I'm glad you found some relief, and your wife didn't need to find a new husband!:D All jokes aside, it really sucks not being able to vape like before. But, hey I guess anything is better than them cancer sticks.

Just an update to this thread. My tonsils are swollen pretty badly, and I seen a white spec & a raw patch on my left tonsil. Looks like I have Tonsillitis as I have all of the symptoms. So I'm heading to the docs tomorrow.

I decided not to vape for the past 3 1/2 days, and have been strictly taking nicotine lozenges. Which Actually have worked pretty damn good. I do miss vaping, but this is a great alternative for the time being.

So I vape around 10 mils a day of 3mg. I am taking 5-6 of these nicotine lozenges at 2mg strength and they are definitely equivalent to my nicotine intake from vaping.

So the statistics of us only absorbing about 40% of nicotine from e-cigs, seems just about right to me from my personal experience.

If anyone else is experiencing these symptoms at all, I would highly suggest looking into tonsillitis, as that's probably what is going on.

Vape on!:thumb:

Happy to say my throat issues cleared shortly after the pollen dust here in Georgia stopped covering everything. I vape outside so that was not helping. Happily enjoying my coolfire iv plus and some MBV. Vanilla Cream right now with a cup of Joe on the front porch....life is good.

That's a relief - I've been experiencing a pretty similar thing in the last week, and it's been freaking me out....

...but the pollen count here has been upwards of 9 too.
