When stacking batteries "in series" but it could happen to any batt, whether in series or not. Should a short occur between the atty and the body of the PV, the batteries are under an over-current condition and will simply run away = Poof.

Protection circuits on batteries will prevent this amongst other things.

A friend liked my 905 so he looked around and everyone was suddenly out of stock. One supplier said his were send back to the manufacturer because of quality control issues.

did these start selling real fast or did they get sent back???

Mine still works fine although the LED went out after the first week. I got some protected batts in case the protection in the 905 stopped working.

Anyone heard anything about the lack of DSE 905 s at many suppliers?

Switched, I have no idea how a battery poofs. I do hear folks say those protective circuits are not fool proof. How did you deal w/ your "runaway" battery? I guess it was an unprotected one?
Joe

They were AW LifePO4s, probably the best battery there is out there to use in a stacked condition. I simply removed them the tube and all was fine.

WRT the DES905 Nomad I was surprised you ordered one of those instead of a screwdriver. Not sure why no one has them in stock. They are known to be problematic and the QC leaves allot to be desired, so perhaps folks just quit carrying them.

I am on my second DSE 905. My first one met a tragic end that was due to my own stupidity and in no way the fault of the unit.

Both of these are chrome (not silver plated) and ran an ohmmeter across the surface to see how conductive it is. It is conductive. In other words, there is no coating of clear insulating material.

So the scratched paint argument does not make sense in that it is acting as an insulator.
You have something else going on. I also question how one could possibly feel 3.7 v through the thicker skin of the hand. The voltage is too low. You might be able to feel two 3.7 v batteries stacked in series to give 7.4 v. I have seen one mod of the 905 which does require some drilling out of the body to stack two batteries.

Also, a good many of the tube mods use the metal body as one of the poles (negative).

I also have a screwdriver MKII, and those batteries charge up to 4.2 v. It's all chrome as well, has no circuitry whatsoever, and I don't feel a thing- as well as an Indulgence and a Buzz AV. They all use the body to route the negative side of the battery to the atty. The Buzz uses two stacked 3.7 v batteries and nobody has complained of tingling.

Your automobile uses the car body as a pole. One could feel 9v across the tongue, but that is the most sensitive organ in the whole body. Good way to test 9v batteries!

Are you dripping with a metal tip?
I am having trouble understanding this.

I love, love my AW14500, but my absolute favorite 14500 are IMR 14500 (you can get them here, great, reliable supplier) and the great part is they are just a little bit shorter than the AW14500s, but lasts just as long , if not longer.
AW IMR-14500 High Drain

IMR14500 Specifications :

Nominal Voltage : 3.7V
Capacity : 600mAH
Lowest Discharge Voltage : 2.50V
Standard Charge : CC/CV ( max. charging rate 1.5A )
Cycle Life : > 500 cycles
Max. continuous discharge rate : 4A
Operating Discharge Temperature : -10 - 60 Degree Celsius
Size : 14.07mm ( diameter ) x 48.80mm ( height ) +/- .1mm

PS:
I never use any STACKED 14500s because none of my e-cigs need it, all of my models take only one (1) 14500 at a time.
