I don't know who invented the first miniature moto tool (commonly known as the DREMEL now), but he must have made a FORTUNE if he did indeed patent it.

Anyway, the DSE601 epipe has a battery cover that can be somewhat cumbersome to tighten and/or remove. See this video review of the DSE601 epipe for a better understanding of this >

The fix for this is very simple. Just use a Dremel OR needle file to cut a slot in the PLASTIC CENTER of the cover. NO NEED to cut THROUGH the plastic, this cover is plenty thick. I hit mine with a Dremel cutoff wheel and now I just use a DIME (yes, a coin worth 10 cents) to tighten/remove the cover. The slot I have cut is not even visually noticeable. It would require a very close and attentive inspection to even be noticed. Please bear in mind that this cover does NOT NEED to be torqued down...just snug it down GENTLY when you reach the fully tightened position (fully clockwise). The plastic center piece is glued very well into the brass threaded outer collar, so as long as you never overtighten it, you should never have a problem.

ALSO....I have to say that I TOTALLY DISAGREE with Leaford’s overly critical assessment regarding the difficulty level of changing the battery...it's really not very hard at all if you comprehend the placement of parts and moldings inside the battery compartment. All you need to do is intermittently press down on the battery (kinda like a hammer drill, but FAR more slowly & gently) and TILT THE PIPE into the required position to LET GRAVITY MOVE THE UPPER LEVER (+ contact) FOR YOU. Using the correct (and very simple) technique of positioning the pipe accordingly, you can easily utilize gravity to do about 99% of the work FOR you.

I am still charging my first battery, so I've not actually tried vaping with the DSE601 as of yet.

Just got my DSE601 today at a shop, batteries were precharged! woohoo! An the stuff that comes with is is smooth, but I like my pipe and cherry mix better! I will be reloading when this one is out. Which could take awhile since I have been vapping on and off on it for 3 hours not and not making a dent. This could take awhile :)

It seems not to have as big of a throat hit as my 901 does on a USB port. But that is probably because the Battey is 3.7v 900mAh battery so not as much voltage as the standard 901 4v but last alot longer. I used one of those rubber sheet jar lid removers for removing the bowl as it is screwed on. Didnt want to take a dremel to it. Easy draw and a good amount of vapor. Not as much as my 901 on a USB though, but respectable. Also the battery is easy to remove, just push down on it and tilt and gravity will move the lever out of the way. Then just put in a new one, push down tilt the other way and make sure the lever drops in the detent of the battery.

So far I love it, hope this helps.
Dan

Hi Dan. Good overall review on your part, but please keep in mind that you are comparing a device that is running strictly on battery power with one that is using a formidable external DC power supply. The average USB port will supply about 500mA @ 5VDC (2.5 Watts) all day long. With that in mind, i'd rather hear how it stacks up against other PV's that are utilizing only rechargeable battery power.

The juice that comes in the 3 pre-charged carts actually seems a bit too smooth, but I'll vape it all up just the same, before refilling it with something tastier, using my syringe. MAN, this pipe uses some BIG CARTS!!! I think this one will definitely provide a full day of vaping. I've also been puffing on mine (just a bit) right out of the very nice looking box, but I still want to charge both cells for the recommended duration before going too crazy on it. It is a very powerful PV device for one that is running strictly on battery power. I'm quite Impressed thus far. After I have cycled each of the 2 included batteries (3 times each) for the recommended 12HRS, I will compare it to my VX2 on USB passthrough, even though it is not really a fair comparison. So far I would highly recommend this PV device to anyone looking for high vapor output on battery power. Yeah, it's kinda big, but then again, look at the duration of batteries & carts. Kinda tough to resist!

Hi,
Well against my stock 901 it last about 4 times as long, battery and cart. It lasted all day with moderate vaping and finnaly changed the battery a day later. The throat hit is not as good as the 901 but it does have about 3 additional inches to go before you can inhale. Not sure it that is it or just that the .3 volts make that big a differeance. Either way you can not beat the duration of the cart and the battery. Just hope the atty last. Read a neat tip about when the vap slows down even with a new cart and battery that if you use a spoon to jump the arm pivot point holding the battery to the little square metal contact next to it, it will in effect make it a manual switch and hold it on there for appox 20 sec so the heater coil burns the residue off improving its life and functionality.
Hope this helps.

I would recommend doing 2 or 3 shorter burns (5-6 seconds each)!!!

Do this AFTER removing everything from the pipe and letting it drain overnight in a warm room, sitting in a jar with the stem facing down. Dry burns have less effect if you've not first drained the pipe as much as possible. Remember this is a PV device that does not have a removeable/replaceable atty. No need to overheat it or burn up the coil prematurely. I have also learned that it is best to store any epipe in a vertical (draining) position whenever it is not in actual use. I use a small iced coffee jar and just set the pipe in it, mouthpiece facing down. This is what unclogged my pipe and this is what keeps it from clogging again. If you do not do this, you will eventually clog the small air passage behind the atty. I had to set mine in the jar and heat the pipe body MODERATELY with a heat gun to make it drain. I also had to do a 20 second dry burn to help clear it/clean it....AFTER draining it overnight. I learned the hard way that long burns don't do much good for the overall lifespan and/or performance of the atty; REGARDLESS of what the poorly written manual says. My atty performance (vapor volume) has decreased quite noticeably from doing some long dry burns, but my DSE601 is working pretty nicely once again after much priming & puffing. Vapor is still better than most ecigs, so I'll keep using it until death do us part. It is still a very formidable PV device and certainly one of my favorites. Don't make the mistakes I did and you should get a reasonable lifespan form the atty. Hope this helps you to maintain your DSE601 epipe without doing excessively long dry burns.
