Uggh, the media and their need to sensationalize the most mundane thing REALLY irks me at times.
As a private pilot, it never fails that any news report on any landing that is abnormal/emergency is described as a CRASH landing. As in a small plane that is forced to simply land on a road or in a field due to fuel exhaustion etc...it happens and can be an utter non-event (and often is)..yet it is described as "the pilot was forced to crash land"...um..no he simply landed.
uggh, whatever.
Off topic.
That's interesting Ikeprof and not something I ever noticed. A a model airplane pilot I think of every landing as a controlled crash LOL, but I think that's just from some of the crowd I've hung with at the flying field over the years.
So, I looked up the definition of crash landing and got the following.
From 'The Free Dictionary':
'Noun 1. crash landing - an emergency landing under circumstances where a normal landing is impossible (usually damaging the aircraft)
emergency landing, forced landing - an unscheduled airplane landing that is made under circumstances (engine failure or adverse weather) not under the pilot's control'
From Merriam-Webster:
'Definition of CRASH-LAND
transitive verb
: to land (an airplane or spacecraft) under emergency conditions usually with damage to the craft'
It seems that we were both wrong, at least for these dictionaries. 'Emergency conditions' seems to be the defining characteristic. I would also vote for more emphasis to be placed on weather damage was sustained.
On topic.
Yes, let's hope this battery event does not hurt vaping. Might just be wishful thinking, but I think it probably will not. These have happened before and I don't think there was any backlash. Fingers & toes crossed here!
