Ok so i was a little curious to see if anyone was anti ecig. I found a few articles online from people saying that ecigs are harmful to the lungs. I dont get it.. I know I feel a lot healthier since I quit real smokes. So does anyone know the real scoop on my ecig being harmful to? Or is this a way for the media to convince citizens to just go back to their old smoking habits and slowly kill themselves? Interested to hear some answers.

Thanks!

The media is coming around, I think. At least somewhat. This was a local story here last night
Local company cashes in on e-cigarettes | News - Home

There's been no proof one way or the other that e-cigs are "bad" for you. It can be argued that they might actually be "good" for you in many ways (especially in harm reduction terms). They are certainly better for you than smoking!

oh look, it's this thread again.

Anti e-cigarette people wouldn't last long here, either they'd get slapped down with the science that so far says the risks appear to be minimal, or classwife would have long since dropkicked them into a hole and tossed their soap box in after them for being a preachy troll.

This is a thread discussing in great detail the study where this "harmful to the lungs" thing came from...

You can read it and draw your own conclusions.

Honestly, there's a degree of uncertainty over the long term effects, although for me, and many people I've come to know on ECF, there have been clear short-terms benefits, harm reduction compared to when we smoked, and the lack of some of the really bad chemicals from smoking removes some of the worst known long term negative effects from smoking. (I could still have long term things from my smoking decades, but the vaping isn't contributing new damage.)

Propylene glycol has had a fair amount of study, well documented, some of the work is directly applicable although not specific to vaping. VG/Glycerine I don't recall reading much on relative to inhalation over prolonged periods. The flavorings used are, in most cases, from the food arena, which means they've been eaten or drank but not inhaled, though some tobacco flavorings I use are from tobacco firms, designed to be applied to tobacco which is then smoked, to adjust the flavor. Colorings as a standalone additive I would never use (once in a while there will be a topic about if you can add colorings to get colored vapor). Nicotine at least for me I just accept, since I had been inhaling it for years a a smoker, but it is a mild stimulant and vaso-constrictor.

Some people do have sensitivities to PG, or VG, or various flavorings. These are real things, can be a PITA to trace down, to figure out what is okay for a person with sensitivities to use, however these sensitivities are the same as found with respect to use of lotions, or eating foods (not special to vaping).

I will accept the clear short-term harm reduction from using PV instead of smoking, acknowledging that the long-term effects are unknown, but likely far less than the multiple thousands of chemicals that we end up ingesting from burned tobacco. (the base tobacco doesn't have thousands of chemicals, many of them are produced from the burning of it) I know that my vaping introduces negligible TSNAs, the really horrible cancer causing chemicals of combusted tobacco, comparable to levels found in approved BP smoking cessation products (patch, gum).

Harm reduction, yes, but I certainly can't claim 100% harm removal/safety, just that it is a lot better than continued smoking.

Vaping hasn't been around long enough for any long term effects (or lack thereof) to be documented.

Vaping cant be good for you you still putting something in your body, that wasn't supposed to be there or needed, but still better than regular cigarettes.
Well, every day we put a lot of things in our bodies that aren't supposed to be there or are unnecessary, caffiene, alcohol, painkillers, medications, etc, etc.

I would quote one interesting answer in another thread:
It's really no different than inhaling vapor from a cold steam humidifier. Like the ones you'd put in a kids room. Unless you were vaping 24/7 there is no danger. Your lungs will express any excess moisture the same way they always do. A cough! The nicotine in the vapor is actually absorbed in your mouth and not your lungs. Nicotine does not normally pass through the membranes in your lungs but since it's the fastest way to your blood stream tobacco companies add a huge amount of chemicals to make that happen. It's one of the reasons cigarettes are so addictive and dangerous. "The more you know"

I don’t know...seems better.

My Doctor collects antique prescriptions...50 years ago doctors prescribed Mercury arsenic and a lot of stuff that now requires a hazmat response if a drop of that stuff is on a floor...but back then it was considered good for treating what ever illness they were prescribed for. As we advance in medical knowledge who knows, 50 years from now people will look back and go OMG you all inhaled what?

Of all the things I do, and am exposed to on a daily bases, all the chemicals in my food, water, and at work. The risk I take driving in Florida traffic (I swear I'm the only one in the state who knows how to drive)...working with high voltage, ladders and stuff like that....any health concerns I have about vapeing pale in comparison to the risk we all face just driving to and from work and all the other things we are exposed to on a daily bases. Lets face it...IF we all knew all the chemicals in lets just say a whopper and fries, would we still eat it? I would.

For me I see it this way. EVERYONE knows that smoking is a horrible thing to do to your body and we all still did it. Vaping has taken me off of the real thing totally for only a very short time now, I started 1 week ago and for the first 3 or 4 days I would have a few analogs a day but I have not had a single one in 3 days now and I was smoking around a pack and a half for about 10 years or so. At this point I don't miss it and I don't have any cravings that my PV doesn't cure so I feel really good about it. Keep in mind too that the big tobacco companies sure don't want to lose customers so I would guess that they are putting out a good amount of the negative press about vaping trying to scare people back to their products.

Neither myself nor my wife has been sick in the last 3.5 years that I've been vaping.

Well, let me clarify...

About six months ago I did start getting the early warning signs of a bad cold/flu coming on.
You know, the kind that would easily last one week or more with all the extended nasal issues and such.

I woke up the next morning and it was pretty much gone.
And there are lots of stories like mine on here.
