Hey fellow ECF-ers! I really hope to become an active member because here in Guelph, Canada, I haven't seen ONE e-cig being used other than the one I got for my mother (who has now also successfully quit a 40+ year analog smoking habbit..yay!) It would be really nice to get to know some of you so that I have someone to talk to and share experiences with.

I'll apologize now if my thought process is all over the place. I'm just really tired.

Back to my topic. Tonight is one of those nights (went to bed at 11pm, and it's now 1:30am here) where I just can't sleep. I was lying in bed and all I could think about was having my PV fix. Here's some background info, I am a diagnosed chronic insomniac. When I smoked analogs, I'd have one right before bed. Then, if I couldn't sleep I'd have another one within an hour. This usually did the trick for me. Now, I'll vape just before bed and then reluctantly stick it on the charger in the living room so that it's not by my side. Then some nights I just can't think of anything else while in bed..."I want me sucky...I want my sucky..."

When I switched to e-cigs, being able to vape in the house (as I didn't smoke inside) was a blessing! Unfortunately it's also a curse. My problem: I vape ALL freaking day some days, non stop, for hours. I know some of you may say to increase the nicotine but I've done that and I still vape just as much on 36mg as I would on 18mg. As a student, I'm spending my days studying and puffing away at my PV. Usually I'm able put the damn thing down and just study, but only when I'm really into the material. If I'm watching TV or reading a book, I vape non-stop for hours. It's not the nicotine I need, it's the habit. I've tried all the ranges from 36mg down to 0 (which I don't like..I enjoy the TH the nicotine delivers) so I'm sticking with 18mg for now, I may lower that to 9mg. I'm able to go hours with 0mg with no withdrawal symptoms so I know it's the hand to mouth addiction that has me. Baby needs his pacifier hehe.

My problem is, I have to force myself to keep my PV out of the bedroom, or else I'm too distracted to sleep. Since smoking cigarettes never kept me awake, I don't know why e-cigs do. I think it's the convenience of being able to vape in bed all I want that's driving my cravings. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Is my addictive personality going to ruin my new e-cig lifestyle? Should I be worried about vaping this much? I don't ever get nicotine poisoning symptoms, so I know I'm not getting too much of that.

I think if you make it into a mental monster it will be harder to get over. You just stopped smoking, which is huge so you may have some quirks initially. It's not *too* weird to keep something out of the bedroom for fear of using it. My husband would have to carry a computer or a tv into our room over my dead body. Don't beat yourself up over it. My vaporizer goes to bed, or near enough, with me too, it's all good :)

Have you considered licorice, Popsicles, or lollipops when you'd rather not be vaping? Something to satisfy the hand to mouth urge? Try to relax, there's no "wrong" way to vape, and if you obsess you'll just stress more.

Ah, it's nice to hear that I'm not totally alone! Thanks! You're absolutely right, I do need to find a substitute to fill that craving. Candy and all that would be nice, but then I'd overdo that and gain weight haha. I think having a tank system is my biggest problem. It's just so easy to keep going and going. Maybe if I switch back to DD I'll be able to cut down...it's worth a shot!

Welcome to the forum! I'm not in canada but I've been in the same situation here... till I converted a bunch of people :p

You reallly have to be careful of nicotine OD, as insomnia is a common symptom of this, and some people is very resilient to its effects.

You may want to try 0mg instead of the candies XD

Yeah I have the same problem. But I am also a chronic Insomniac. I love me a good vape several times a day!!! Currently on 18mg going to step down to 12mg when my current e-liquids run out. Drink lots of water, buy caffeine free soda, don't drink coffee. Take a walk after dinner and before bed. Drink lots of water (yes I said it again).

I can't vape inside so I leave it out in garage to charge overnight.
When bed time rolls around I try to think about and do other things than vaping.

I always forget about those sugarless candies! It might be worth a shot. It just seems that I've replaced one habit (analogs) with now an even stronger addiction (e-cigs). I know it's the healthier choice, but perhaps only physically, not mentally. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE vaping and I'm not trying to sound negative about it. I think for me, it's just too convenient.

I was finally able to put the thing down and sleep last night, thankfully. I wish I couldn't vape inside, that was the one thing about analogs. I HAD to: get up, find my lighter, find my smokes, get to the door, freeze my .... off if it's not the summer, and then I got to get my fix. Now I just reach onto my desk and voila..I'm good to go. Wait, who am I kidding, my desk? That thing never leaves my hand lol!

I'm going to look into trying more 0mg juices, especially for the night time. And if sugarless lollipops taste better than I picture, I may try that.

I haven't seen anyone from my area on ECF yet, so I really feel on my own when it comes to vaping. No one has ever asked what it was I was sucking on, but they've definitely given me some funny looks - like I'm smoking something I shouldn't be in public.

Thanks for your input everyone:)

After about 2-3 months I began having trouble sleeping. I was told to vape a lower nic juice in the evening and that kinda worked. I added menthol and that little extra "kick" seemed to do the trick. Realize that when I smoked I absolutely loathed menthol and would rather go without than smoke a menthol analog. At the 3 month mark I also began to go out on short trips without my PV because I realized I was as attached to vaping as I was analogs. It was very scary but not as bad as I thought. There are some vapers that seem to not get what they need from vaping nic juice and many have added WTA juice which, in some cases, helped.
"Quote: I divided smokers/vapers into four basic groups based on two theoretical criteria: 1) predisposition to nicotine addiction, and 2) predisposition to tobacco MAOI addiction.
Group 1: low predisposition to nicotine addiction, low predisposition to tobacco MAOI addiction.
Group 2: high predisposition to nicotine addiction, low predisposition to tobacco MAOI addiction.
Group 3: high predisposition to nicotine addiction, high predisposition to tobacco MAOI addiction.
Group 4: low predisposition to nicotine addiction, high predisposition to tobacco MAOI addiction."
A great read: Why e-cigs don't work for everyone... | Facebook

Understand when the above was written WTA juice was not available but is now widely available for vaping. Here's a vid review of WTA and the effects. Understand that all vape juice can be adjusted to different strengths:

I started on 36 mg nic and am now down to 10 mg during the day and 8 mg in the evening.

Good Luck.
