Hello, and good afternoon; wherever you are in the world. I'm currently looking for answers, with regards to all the information out there. I've been strolling through the stickies and the newbie section, but find the information to be overwhelming. So, really I just have a few basic questions on getting-started. I have been smoking roughly 15 years, and over this period it has progressively managed to get worse. As most can imagine, we all started out on a low number of cigarettes, but I'm probably smoking around 20-30 per day now. I have started out with the e-cigarettes in the hope of quitting one day (you can buy in Tesco 10MOTIVES) They're pretty much advertised everywhere in supermarkets and petrol stations, but to be honest I find the bloody useless. What I have found to be missing is the sensation of smoke when you inhale, and the original taste of a normal cigarette. I find that I have to recharged it 600 times per day, and it just doesn't last long. So, really I would just like to ask if anybody could recommend a particular brand or model which will half satisfy my needs. P.S Sorry about the format of my text for some reason IE-10 doesn't allow me to use paragraphs. Best Regards, Dave

nothing will taste like a real cigarette. so if you are after that you probably won't find it. for everything else there are indeed countless solutions. best starting point would be an ego battery preferably between 900 - 1300 mah, cartomizers, tanks, clearomizers. some items WILL NOT PERFORM the way you want or people are telling you. you have to know that the problem most probably lies with that particular device and not the whole range of similar devices

Yeah, the worst thing people do when they're starting is trying to find an analogue to their old cigarettes, and that never happens. Try a fruit or coffee flavor. Also, I recommend investing in something more dedicated than a convenience store PV, because in the long run, they're cheaper. As far as something specific? You'll have to ask someone else. Sorry. :p

This is all my opinion, but I highly recommend Smokeless Image's line of products. They vape quite well from the bottom to the top of their line. If you want something easy that's more what you're used to, the cig-style batteries are fairly high capacity. They also have high-capacity cartridges in addition to regular sized ones. Two fully charged 78mm batteries should easily last you through the day. Get the blank refillable cartridges and 3-4 full ones should last you through the day. They also have the X2 series of batteries, which are more cigar-sized, but also have the capacity to last at least a day if you go for the 900mah or 1300mah.

Basically, you can either carry around one big battery, or a couple of small ones. It is physically impossible for the small batteries to last very long on their own.

Another thing worth looking into is the Joye eroll. It's a very tiny battery with the form factor of a traditional cigarette, but it comes with a case that charges it when you're not using it so you can use that battery all day. Even the vets seem to be enjoying the vapor, as well.

As for the taste, you're just not gonna get that from an e-cig. At best, you can get something that tastes like fresh tobacco smells. The throat hit, you can get by upping the nicotine percentage. Go for 24mg or even 36mg if you think you can handle the nicotine.

I'd like to echo trying the non-tobacco flavors out there. A lot of them are better than a cig! You might be surprised at how quickly you get over the desire for that taste once you're vaping on something really tasty.

HI Dave, I was like you when I started in January looking for the substitution for Marl Light which I have been smoking for a very long time. After getting quite a number of different tobacco e-liquid, nothing taste like ML. Or should I say ML has no taste and we are actually after the tar/ash smell instead. Vaping should not create that tobacco smell and one thing I am happy tight now is that me and my clothes don't smell like ash tray.

Sounds like the same thing I went through not all that long ago...

After searching high and low, and trying every disposable failure going, I finally came upon Vapor 4 Life. Yes, I'm certainly a "fanboy", but for very good reason. Their stuff just works, and the support (both directly from the company as well as the user base) is second to none. Prices are fair at that.

The closest thing to an actual analog cigarette flavor I've found is Halo brand Torque 56. Being new and looking for hard vapor, I'd suggest a Vapor 4 Life DAV with a Cartomizer tank. Great hardware to start out, easy to use, and rock solid.

Joyetech ego C upgrade in 650 or 1000 mah (don't buy a knockoff) either passthrough or not. Start with Boge LR 2.0 cartomizers. You can always move on to tanks or clearomizers if you want later. I haven't. You won't find a juice that tastes like burning leaves and paper but what you really want is a good throat hit and a neutral smokey taste rather than food tastes. I buy Grey Matter and Red Rider from Mr. E Liquids but there are many others. Of all their signature flavors (tobacco) the only ones I haven't cared for are Camel hump and Camel hump menthol. Always read the juice review by customers on the site. If you want to try DIY, Vapingzone's Real Cig super concentrated flavoring makes a good cigalike. You might want to contact them and ask if they make a prepared juice like it. I think Mr E still sells an ego C upgrade 650 mah passthrough kit with 5 cartomizers, cone, tip and charging equipment for $35.00. I got two when I started and still use them.

Hi and welcome to ECF. The thing that really attracted me to vaping was the TH/ throat hit and lung hit. This comes from the amount of nicotine in the juice. As for analog taste I've found a few that come close. For more info you can ask in the UK Forum
Chrissie in particular has a list of reputable UK Vendors and discount codes.
Best of Luck.

Edit: in regards to battery info 100 mah= 1 hr normal vaping before needing recharge.

Lovely, thanks for the info! I'm slightly disappointed that I can't get a good hit from an e-cigarette. Then again, I've been missing that for a couple of weeks now and it is only just surfacing for me. I did hear of something called smokers relief which is supposed to be near identical to a normal cigarette with regards to this, but then after reading about somewhat, it seems to be false info...

Would you be able to recommend a reputable dealer in the UK please? There seems to be so many websites out there that look funny.

I agree with the above comments. Using e-cigarettes can get you off of cigarettes. They are an excellent alternative of nicotine delivery compared to the nicotine patches and gum, because unlike those they address the behavior of smoking. The hand-to-mouth ritual and the sensation of "smoke" via vapor in the throat and lungs.

Vaping is not smoking however. It is an entirely different beast. You will not find an e-liquid flavor that comes close to the taste of a cigarette. It's just not possible to duplicate the taste of burning tobacco and smoke in a flavor. So don't waste your time trying to find that.

Focus on finding a flavor that you can enjoy using. Or better yet, two or three to allow for some variety. Vaping can become much more enjoyable than smoking ever was, as hard as that might sound in your beginner situation.

You can try some tobacco flavors, you might find something close to what you need. But also be willing to try some fruit, candy, coffee, menthol, spices (mint, cinnamon, vanilla, etc).

Be sure to start out with enough nicotine strength. 24mg nicotine should be a good place to start out with. Figure on consuming 3-5 ml a day.

Realize that many people ultimately "advance" from the cigarette-size batteries to the mid-level size (cigar-size) that are called eGo batteries. The smaller batteries just don't have the punch that the larger batteries have and only last 3-4 hours between charges. The eGo batteries will provide more of a punch of vapor, and will last 6-12 hours or more between charges.

After a few weeks, most vapors get over the "size" factor that beginners are comfortable with, and start seeking performance over size/looks. Maybe skip that first "step" of cigalikes and go directly with an ego setup to begin with.

Smokeless Image battery size comparisons.jpgDCT-on-ego.jpg

Size comparison of cigarette, a couple of cigarette-size batteries, and three eGo size batteries. An eGo battery with a cartotank for an all-day carefree vape.

The Blu cig disposable and kit had me wanting for a better experience. A that point, I purchased 2 joyetech ego-c twist batteries, a few different clearomizers, and some juice. What a difference!!! Today, well . . . That's a different story. Don't get too carried away with too many different things. It can get quite expensive in the beginning, if you let it.

eRoll by Joyetech is a great option. Some places sold as eMini by Ovale.

Smaller and more convenient than any other cig-a-like. Fully self contained. No extras to buy.

If you don't mind bigger, less mobile solutions, that trying an ego style battery, look for a Twist or Spinner are good options. You will need to pair it up with a cartomizer or some such.

Even bigger and better is a VAMO, still pretty cheap at $40 plus replaceable batteries and charger, cartomizer and some such.

Thanks for the recommendation here. This looks like a decent kit, with the batteries lasting a long time. Am I right to assume you pour liquid nicotine into this? Then you just buy your own mixtures and away you go?

You're welcome. Yes many UK vapers have found success with this kit. Jason the owner asked ECF members what they would like to see in a kit and this is what he came up with. The beauty of this kit is it gives 2 diff types of delivery systems- cartomizer and a clearomizer.

Cartomizer/ Carto- metal tube with stuffing and element. Holds anywhere form 1- 4 ml of juice. Carto is fully saturated and must be occasionally refilled when juice runs out. My Cartos last 1-2 weeks. Best Cartomizer I’ve found is the Smok Tech XL 1.7 single coil. Boge 2.0 ohm cartos will give a cooler vape. Always use single coil cartos with 3.3- 3.7 PVs for the best vape.

Clearomizer (includes the Stardust and the Vivi Nova Tank)- a plastic or metal tank with a wick and element. Contains NO stuffing. The rebuildable clearos come with heads (coil+ wick) that can be cheaply (2.00) and easily replaced. When the head burns out simply unscrew the old head out and screw in new head- takes 10 secs. My Vivi Nova heads are lasting about 10+ weeks BUT I wash the heads every few days. I've found the Vivi Nova to give the best draw.

The Riva is also known as the Kgo. I own and LOVE it

Just looking to order this kit, and see where I go from there. I'll keep you posted, have a good one, cheers!

Congrats. It's a solid kit. The cartomizers you fill by drip drops into it. Make abs=olute sure it is fully saturated from top to bottom- first fill is VERY important. The Clearomizer you drip drops into a plastic container and vape. I used the clearos but switched to the Mini Vivi Nova s the build and vape was superior. Realize the clearos are not rebuildable BUT can be washed out.
Cheers and the Best of Luck...almost forgot....don't forget juice
