Years ago I decided I would eat anything and everything I wanted but just watch the amount I allow myself.

I personally will not do artificial sweetners.

That way I don't feel deprived of any foods I want. I tried diet after diet and they were all fail for me. I would miss something I really wanted and just get off the damn thing.

This seems to work pretty well for me. (that and the fact I have absolutely no appetite when it gets HOT outside)

I've always thought the same thing, but again, I've never had an issue with weight. It's really hard for me to empathize or sympathize with those that have the issue. I'm sure it's the same way for people who never became addicted to alcohol, cigarettes or any other potentially addictive substance as well. Why don't you just quit (insert any addiction here)?

That's why I have so much trouble with the Q board. I just can't empathize with their struggle. And because of their nastiness I have no desire to try.

When I was younger I could eat anything and managed to stay under 165 or so. I gradually gained up to about 175 by a combination of weight-training, windsurfing, and mountain biking.

The last time I quit smoking, I shot up to 220, and felt horrible. I used Atkins to drop back to 180, and have managed to maintain that.

I don't worry too much about what I eat. Atkins broke my sugar habit; sodas are rediculously oversweetened, IMO, so I avoid them. I use Splenda as my sweetener of choice, and avoid HFCS like the plague. I limit carbs, but not obsessively. I don't worry much at all about fat in food; I prefer reduced sugar to low-fat. When I do eat sweet stuff, I just limit the amount rather than avoiding it all together.

Side rant... BMI should be outlawed as a fitness measurement, especially for use by insurance companies. At 5'9", I'd have to be under 160 to be considered "healthy".

The last time I was under 160 pounds (I'm also 5'9") was when I left Marine Corps bootcamp (or when I was wrestling and playing Lacrosse in HS). My body fat was like 4-6%. When I was boxing, 175 pounds and I was solid, very little fat, probably 8-10% or so.

How do you guys do it? I was skinny until I started vaping. I gained 50 lbs this past year. I've had to buy boxers every three months. I am now up to extra, extra chubby.
:blush::blush::blush::blush:

Is it sad that I've never even made it to 160 pounds?

Not far from the truth.

The highest I ever got was about 155 when I took weight lifting as an elective in high school. I gained 30 lbs that semester. Made my doctor happy.

My experience is that some people just have a really hard time dropping weight simply by cutting calories. This may be because they have developed a hyper-insulin response to the foods they eat. Insulin is activated in the blood stream when we eat but some foods produce more of a "rush" of insulin than others (High glycemic index foods that are carbohydrate/sugar rich). Insulin acts to convert sugar into energy and stores extra energy as fat. Limiting the release of insulin by reducing the intake of high glycemic index foods will actually normalize the insulin response over time. I also think that people who don't seem to gain weight (regardless of food intake) have a natural ability in their bodies to self-regulate insulin release.
And obviously, it doesn't make sense to count diet food as a negative calorie and thus load up on the rest of the meal! Hehe, I have seen that too. I think I did see reference to artificial sweeteners mimicing an insulin response in the body but I haven't looked up any studies on that. So far, they work for me!

Coming from someone who has never been "fat" my opinion probably isn't going to hold much weight (cue rimshot), but...

I've always understood it as "if you limit your calorie intake you will lose weight." Empty calories from soda doesn't help. I'm not sure diet soda helps either. I've seen far too many people "supersize" their order simply because they thought that since they weren't drinking their calories they could eat more. Basically diet sodas and artificial sweeteners skew our idea of what the calorie count of our food is. I'm sure synthetic sweeteners also impact the body's insulin response, but I don't have hard evidence on that theory.

Hi guys,
Question...as you know thanks to you guys and your expertise with e-cigs I was able to steer my buddy to an e-cig supplier and he just loves it..He bought an EGO and it certainly seems like a very nice unit.
He was told to put in 2 drops of the e juice. Question is, is there a reason for 2 drops? Can you put in more?

While I'm at it, I noticed the pics of the dogs some of you have. I'm a HUGE dog lover and I always only get rescues, as I believe in saving a dog. I'm basically a German Shepherd type and we lost our former GS early this year, but we wer fortunate enough to find this new rescue. This is my Layla, she's 3 years old and a big puppy.
