Hi guys,
Question...as you know thanks to you guys and your expertise with e-cigs I was able to steer my buddy to an e-cig supplier and he just loves it..He bought an EGO and it certainly seems like a very nice unit.
He was told to put in 2 drops of the e juice. Question is, is there a reason for 2 drops? Can you put in more?

That depends? Is he dripping or using cartridges/cartomizers?

When I drip, I'll add 3 drops to the atomizer, puff until the taste "changes", then add an additional 2-3 drops. Cartridges and cartomizers can both accept larger amounts of liquid. I don't use cartridges, so I can't comment on them. For a new cartomizer (Boge) it takes 20-25 drops to fill it. Every once in a while, I'll add an addition 6-10 drops to keep it "topped" off.

Well, 2 drops is a starting point. It really depends on a lot of things. The PG/VG ratio. More PG and it's less viscous. More VG and it's more viscous. Depends on the atomizer too. A standard 510 will probably need less than a lower resistance 510 or even less than a 306.

In short, I think it's good practice to "prime" the atomizer with about 5 drops, regardless of ratio and atty. From there, it's a learning curve to figure out how many to keep it from tasting burnt or to keep it from flooding. It will flood or sound flooded when there are too many drops. There's a gurgling sound. Fix for that is to remove the atty and blow it out (from the threaded end) into a paper towel or try to burn it off during draws (hoping not to get juice in your mouth). Another downside to flooding is that it will "leak" from the atty/well connection, where the air slots are.

Generally speaking though, 5 drops to prime, 2-3 to keep it moist.

Cartomizers are different. About 20-30 drops to get it nice and moist (full) for initial. About 5-10 to keep it moist.

Sidenote: I love GS. Very regal looking animals. Probably my favorite dog.

My experience is that some people just have a really hard time dropping weight simply by cutting calories. This may be because they have developed a hyper-insulin response to the foods they eat. Insulin is activated in the blood stream when we eat but some foods produce more of a "rush" of insulin than others (High glycemic index foods that are carbohydrate/sugar rich). Insulin acts to convert sugar into energy and stores extra energy as fat. Limiting the release of insulin by reducing the intake of high glycemic index foods will actually normalize the insulin response over time. I also think that people who don't seem to gain weight (regardless of food intake) have a natural ability in their bodies to self-regulate insulin release.
And obviously, it doesn't make sense to count diet food as a negative calorie and thus load up on the rest of the meal! Hehe, I have seen that too. I think I did see reference to artificial sweeteners mimicing an insulin response in the body but I haven't looked up any studies on that. So far, they work for me!

Dieting is like vaping...

What works for one person, won't necessarily work for another! :)

Depends on whether he is using an atomizer or a cartomizer. Atomizer 2-3 drops. Cartomizer 15-20 drops.
Good looking dog!

Damn you Nate for being a faster typer....

Call it a benefit of sitting in front of a computer and typing all day! :)

Disadvantage = carpal tunnel which I believe I'm starting to see the early warning signs. I'm trying to convince my bosses to spring for one of those desks you can adjust up or down for use while standing or sitting. It's a no-go for now. :(

It sounds like he is "dripping" on the atomizer instead of using a cartridge or cartomizer?

If so, he can put as many drops on the atomizer as he wants.
But he'll run into problems with too many and problems with not enough.
:)

Too many drops and the atomizer will flood, possibly gurgle a bit, and will not produce vapor.

The solution to that is to blow the atomizer out and start over.
However some poeple do like to flood it just a bit and then just kind of vape through it.

Too few drops and you will get that nasty taste of hot juiceless atomizer very quickly.
So basically you want to put as many drops in as you can without flooding it.

How many drops depends on the atomizer, as some can hold more and some can hold less.
So really you need to determine by a bit of trial and error how many drops it can hold.

And another thing to know is that a completely blown out atomizer, like after you flood it, can hold a lot more drops.
So when there is no juice at all in the atomizer, it needs a couple of extra drops than usual.

XBB, can you tell us more details? Is he using cartomizers or atomizer/cartridge?

:laugh::laugh:Ya see? That's why quit smoking boards needs guys like you, cause what the hell do we know?

I don't know the difference between the 2 you mention Randy, but it's a small little unit that screws onto the battery and then the tip goes onto that. I think it's an atomizer, but not sure.

Ok, that's what it sounds like. The 2 drops is used to "prime" the atomizer so that the liquid from the cartridge will wick properly.

I quit using the 3-piece models long ago, so the others can advise better on them.

I haven't been checking the UK board as much lately, but I pop over now and then to see if any questions come up.

Okay, so he is using the cartridge filled with juice and putting it on the atomizer.
So it sounds like he is ALSO putting two drops on the atomizer before putting the cartridge back on.

Sort of giving it a "head start" if you will?

Well, that should work fine for the most part, so I am wondering why he is asking the question.

It sounds like maybe he is asking because the thing is tasting burnt and nasty after refilling the cartridge?
Or is that happening now and then even when the cartridges still hves plenty of juice left?
