Actually, where you put the punctuation regarding quotes is a matter of common use in the part of the world where you live.

In the US, a quote by punctuation would look like "this." <---period inside the quote

In a lot of other places, it's perfectly acceptable and/or correct to put it like "this". <----period outside the quotes.

But I often see excessive use of commas - using before an "and" or as a way to dictate where someone would "pause" if they were talking, but not grammatically correct. I was guilty of it before I began writing press releases for CASAA, but had to change my ways. I just want people to focus on the content and not get side tracked by what they perceive as grammatical errors, which could take away from the authoritative and knowledgeable tone of an article.

It's DC2's article though! :)

I have a bad feeling about this. I agree it should be posted but also think it's not going to be well received.

It's not going to get posted on the forum, it's going to get submitted to a part of the parent website that outlines quit smoking methods.

People are encouraged to submit their own quit smoking methods, and electronic cigarettes are not represented.
Read the Methods for Successfully Quitting Smoking

It will be interesting to see if they publish it.
Anyone taking bets?

I agree with you. Today matches my longest quit attempt (patch). Every time I quit, I was constantly wanting/thinking about a cigarette. Even with NRT where I was getting nicotine. I've since realized, it wasn't the nic that made me go back to the cigs, it was something else. Along with the PV, I've been taking vitamin D and St. John's Wort. They (obviously) didn't start working immediately, but my mood has definitely improved and I'm no longer depressed.

Just curious-you talk about when using aids to really quit smoking that ALL you thought about was having one-to me that just points out you needed time to let go of "your friend mr. cigerette" I think all quitters go thru that phase-for me with almost 9 months free sure every day I sorta of still want one but do I act on it-nope,that doesn't mean down the road I might cheat but for now its too important holding out for a full yr.

I got a nice note from Steph but the board's not letting me post or answer right now. She's wanting ideas on keeping the peace. It was more in depth than that but her heart is definitely in the right place... not sure how to go about accomplishing it though.
The only way that I can see to keep the peace is to get Katiem to shut the hell up.

Hi Beth,

It's good that you're determined to stay quit. If I were you, I wouldn't ever cheat, not ever. I realize everyone is different, but when I cheated after not smoking for five years, it ended up with me smoking a pack and a half a day within 4 weeks. Sure, the first one tasted terrible, but the second one just a little less terrible and so on and so on and so on. I would hate to see that happen to you. Once you're done, stay done. Just one cigarette is a myth. JMO

Some quitters might miss smoking. I'm not one of them. I was going through some major withdrawals from something other than nicotine. Some people are addicted to the nic, others by something else.

Good for you on your quit! 9 months is definitely something to be proud of. This Thursday will be 1 month for me.

You know what it reminds me of? Doctors who won't prescribe enough pain medication because they are afraid their deathly ill patients will become addicted. We went through that when my father was dying. There comes a time when you have to honestly ask yourself which is worse and what really matters.

Yeah, I hear that. When my mother-in-law was dying of bone cancer and she was home for her final days with hospice care, I remember the nurse telling us to be careful not to give her "too much" morphine for her excruciating pain as it might actually kill her. :(

He has let go of his friend Mr. Cigarette, which is why he no longer thinks about having one any longer.
He was saying how other times he quit, using nicotine products that were NOT electronic cigarettes, he always wanted a cigarette.

Gee nine months. That's just great. You almost got that year. I think that's a real accomplishment.

Nine months of being smoke free is a huge deal. Congratulations! Don't cheat...cheating did me in when I had previously quit for three months on Nicotrol and Zyban. My grandmother passed and I decided to have "one" just to calm my nerves....aaargh!

I haven't had a cigarette in nearly 2 years and I have no desire for one. If that's not a testimony that continued nicotine use doesn't automatically lead to a relapse to smoking for every former smoker, I don't know what is.

My e-cigarette is no different to me than my coffee machine - I'm not obsessed with it, but it does get me what I need/want. As far as relapsing if my batteries all died or I ran out of e-liquid - I just make sure I'm covered the same way I make sure I always have coffee and filters. I feel no shame in that and I don't feel any more a slave to my e-cig than I would feel a slave to my coffee machine. I'm probably more a slave to my cell phone charger and laptop battery! LOL!

Of course, I never felt a "slave" to cigarettes either. The addiction part of it never bothered me. I just didn't want to expose myself to smoke anymore. Some people just don't get it that people quit smoking for different reasons....
