He has let go of his friend Mr. Cigarette, which is why he no longer thinks about having one any longer.
He was saying how other times he quit, using nicotine products that were NOT electronic cigarettes, he always wanted a cigarette.

Thank you, DC. I'm glad the point I was trying to make wasn't completely obtuse.

I haven't had a cigarette in nearly 2 years and I have no desire for one. If that's not a testimony that continued nicotine use doesn't automatically lead to a relapse to smoking for every former smoker, I don't know what is.

My e-cigarette is no different to me than my coffee machine - I'm not obsessed with it, but it does get me what I need/want. As far as relapsing if my batteries all died or I ran out of e-liquid - I just make sure I'm covered the same way I make sure I always have coffee and filters. I feel no shame in that and I don't feel any more a slave to my e-cig than I would feel a slave to my coffee machine. I'm probably more a slave to my cell phone charger and laptop battery! LOL!

Of course, I never felt a "slave" to cigarettes either. The addiction part of it never bothered me. I just didn't want to expose myself to smoke anymore. Some people just don't get it that people quit smoking for different reasons....

Well, for reading this thread and the closed parent thread and participating somewhat here at ECF and Q board, if I come away with only the sense of clarity that Kristen has for bringing her wordsmithing to bear on the "problem(s)" these threads center on, then I've gained considerably.

If you can clearly see what you are dealing with you can assess options and make much better decisions

You know what it reminds me of? Doctors who won't prescribe enough pain medication because they are afraid their deathly ill patients will become addicted. We went through that when my father was dying. There comes a time when you have to honestly ask yourself which is worse and what really matters.

Firstly, my condolences to your family for your loss and any additional suffering that may have been cause by said Doctor's incapability to remain objective.

Except you can also find Doctors that medicate like they're giving out tic-tacs..... unfortunately they're not that intellectually honest when it comes to nicotine it would seem as more Hospital networks ban nicotine all-together instead of just smoking. -Magnus

I was thinking maybe I could start a post about religious or political views if you like :)

I am sooooooooooooo kidding by the way - I got my tongue lashing the other night LOL.

I wish it would settle down a bit. So, not all people agree with what you are doing. I haven't agreed with everyone my entire life and thank god because I have learned some pretty neat things and met some pretty neat people from being curious and stepping outside the box once in a while.

I personally don't like the "we are accepting and supporting EXCEPT if you are doing this - or that." (I am a punctuation in kinda girl) I really don't like that.

And off topic but I do something that makes a lot of grammar/punctuation people insane....what is it you ask....I will just see if it bothers anyone here.... :)

You know what I like NOT being obsessed with? I like NOT being obsessed with NOT smoking.

This: QuitSmokingMessageBoard.com • View topic - I havent smoked in 11 and a half hours is something I never had to suffer through with e-cigarettes. I'm not belittling his efforts - so please don't misunderstand what I am saying here. I know there is a sense of pride too - like Beth is and should be very proud of her 9 months - but to have to be counting off the hours like that? I just feel sad that people have to try so hard, so needlessly suffer and then hate themselves when they "fail" all because they think they have to quit nicotine to quit smoking. It'd be so much easier to quit smoking first and THEN work on the nicotine and habit.

This guy is a perfect candidate for e-cigarettes in my opinion. He still likes smoking and just wants to quit because he logically thinks he should and the costs are adding up. I worry he is higher risk for relapse if he's trying to quit nicotine and he doesn't yet hate the addicton. I hope I'm wrong and our new friends over there are able to help him keep the quit!

Hi Melanie! I have no idea what you mean....

LOL

If you want to get into politics or religion, check the Outside forum here. Warning - it gets pretty heated in there! LOL

Hmmm.... could it be....

I do the same thing when I'm just chatting in an IM or text message or in a post. To me it's like a pause in a spoken conversation, for effect. I also use it as if to say "you know the rest". Which I think is closer to proper usage.

Oh well, I'm a programmer for a living, so the compiler lets me know when I've written something wrong. Good thing I don't get paid for my writing skills.

I've been thinking the same thing about many of those same type of posts on the QSMB but was afraid i wouldn't be able to express it correctly. I'm glad you did.

That would get me in trouble. I am totally a socialist living in a conservative province and I have no organized religious views. I also have a degree in Social Work and want to save the world. I am a lost cause LOL
