SOME people - and they were the minority on our side, IMO. Sorry, maybe I'm misunderstanding, but you make it sound like ALL of the ECF people were out of line and that just isn't true?

Dude.... people were going over to the other boards and stalking each other. Ignore or not, that's just ~messed up~..... -Magnus

AFAIK, Fred is the ONLY mod over there. It has to be a bit overwhelming for him to moderate everything that goes on, even if it is a smaller forum. I don't know if he banned any of the long term members, but it is they who drive traffic to the site. Banning them would be shooting himself in the foot (or head depending on how the others felt about the ban). I can't help but feel that if such discussions were occurring here, the mods would nip it in the bud long before it got to the level it did at QSMB.
I wonder if those few have him convnced that board will die without them.

I don't think that's necessarily true. Harm reduction still applies for those who eventually intend to quit nicotine but aren't ready just yet. People should still quit smoking to reduce their exposure while they are trying/waiting to quit nicotine.

Well I guess we can't promote harm reduction over there anymore...rotten timing after that message from lol :(. No worriesthere's a whole world to promote it to.

Yeah, you're missing some of my posts. I was ranting just earlier today about how asinine and childish they sounded when they found discussions of recipes and munchies threatening somehow. The whole pure evil spinoff.

I certainly think many ECF people wasted their own time but I hardly think, as a group, ECF people behaved anywhere in the same league of distasteful nonsense as the Q. They were rabid and ridiculous more often than not.

I don't think so. I'm with Magnus in that I feel it was Fred's (polite) way of giving us an "out".

He really was. There was ~no~ reason to put that nice reminder paragraph that ECFers have, well, ECF.. otherwise. -Magnus

OK, I need to get to sleep. I'm going out of town this weekend (my #2 son is graduating from high school) so I probably won't be around much. Don't burn down the house while I'm gone and clean up that blood from the carpet!

Nite everyone! Have a great, smoke-free weekend!

I sent this to Fred just now, and I'll let you all know what his response is...

I was thinking about hanging around and manning the new Electronic Cigarette subforum to answer questions and provide guidance for anyone who might rarely stumble in there to ask anything. But before doing so, I would need a clarification about the following statement from the new policy...

Electronic cigarette users are welcome here with the understanding that the ultimate goal for those users is the eventual and complete cessation of nicotine use.

If I were to be asked a question about how to quit smoking using electronic cigarettes, I would answer that you could wean down your nicotine levels at your own pace, and on your own schedule. I would not be able to insist that someone needs to set a date or follow any kind of plan. I would, however, not mention the possibility of using the nicotine indefinitely.

So this leaves me with two questions...

1) Would my reply about weaning at your own pace and on your own schedule be acceptable?
2) What would you want my reply to be should I be asked about using the nicotine indefinitely?

Your answers will determine whether or not I can stay here and try to help.

Thanks!

Hey, we may have to accept that some peoples kids just dont have the logic we do...survival of the fittest I guess. We say, "whatever keeps ya off the ciggies"...they say "hellfire and nicodemons"....I dont think we'll ever understand, and I think we all know, we'll never agree. Just keep our distance and hope it doesnt rub off. :S
But geez, can you imagine the fear these ppl have to even ASK a question now...the pm's these ppl write...just nonsense.
THAT being said...If you maintained a presence, and somehow make it known our "full time" forum, where these questions are welcomed, you might very well get a good amount of defects from there. And if their ways didnt change, eventually, they would be left with those that dont participate, and those with pitchforks, which really isnt all that many it seems.

My PM to Fred:
Fred, does my sig file bother you? If it does, I'll change it.

If you have followed my posts you may notice that I never tell anyone i think they should keep using nicotine, I leave it up to their personal choice if that's what they want to do. I try not to respond to every baiting post and try not to post in anger or do something that would inflame the situation. I have tried to be fair, honest and respect your posted wishes. That said, if you feel there are areas where I have failed thus, I would respectfully ask that you tell me. I do not want to do anything to hurt your board of cause members to turn away from a source of help.

I know you are very busy, but I would really appreciate it if you took the time to answer this PM.

Thank you,

John

His answer:

PM if you want it.

Why be polite? Why not just ban all of us and be done with it?

Because he is trying to take the high-ground because he knows the behavior of some there was unacceptable. It's almost condescending in a way but he is under INTENSE amounts of pressure and I get it.

I have emotional bandwidth? Care to clarify the meaning of that for me?

See? You just proved my point. ;-)

You care what other people think. You care what other people do if it's right or wrong. And you'll chase them down until they UNDERSTAND. They _MUST_ understand.

You don't care what other people think about ~you~, you're not conceded like say... me.... but you certainly can't stand the misinformed. -Magnus

I have a feeling QSMB hasn't seen this much action in quite some time. Fred needs the traffic to justify the expense of keeping the forum running. Outright banning people lowers traffic therefore making it harder to justify.

That's all conjecture though. Fred doesn't advertise on the forum so traffic doesn't equal advertising revenue. He may very well keep it up just out of the "goodness of his heart".

How does he feel about being #2? Does he hold any deep resentment towards your #1 son? Have you told him straight to his face that he's only #2? How would he feel if he saw your post?
