A long time ago there was a tale similar to this ECF - Qboard discussion. A neanderthol insisted that the downed mammoth must be pushed all the way back to camp and the homosapien said let's just put the mammoth on our wagon with these new wheels and pull it back to camp.

I leave it to you to figure out the end of that story and which ending is better.

Not QSMB - us. That was to Ren because he was joking that we were supposedly "plotting" to take over the Q board and he wasn't seeing us doing all of the planning (invited to the meetings.) I was just teasing that he hadn't been fully assimilated into our "nicotine junkie collective" because we don't need meetings! LOL

Correct on both accounts. Only the QSMB folks have talked about the "ecig folks" wanting to "take over".

I've got no inclinations toward QSMB domination (not today anyway... :) ), I'd just like the conversation to evolve more toward constructive discussions on what to do after you have quit smoking. Problem is, until ecigs nobody ever really had that option, to get something that mimics many of the things people "miss" about smoking that has nothing to do with nicotine.

I am one of those that really believe that my issues with smoking revolved around the fact that the only way you could be satisfied in the past was to smoke a ciggy. I can feel satisfied today with absolutely no desire for an analog, even when I toot on some zero nic liquid (I'm experimenting, following fonedude's thread regarding). People that are still smoking really NEED to know that they can stop smoking AND they get to decide for themselves on the nicotine aspect.

Initially there were alot of "hand-to-mouth addicts" posts, which I didn't really subscribe to, especially with so many at QSMB having luck with straws. Heck even katiem mentioned cinnamon toothpicks, which sound pretty handy for when you don't have your zero-nic ecig around.

Good morning everybody.

Glad it seems to be working for you too Renstyle. I am finding what I personally enjoy most about vaping is plumes of vapor and flavor. That's what seems to keep my cigarette cravings at bay.

Using almost entirely VG with flavoring added does give lots of vapor. I sure do LOOK like a smoker. :)

And dabbling with DYI allows me to adjust the flavors for my taste.

I also was not enjoying the throat hit much anymore. I was beginning to think of it as throat irritation. So lower nicotine is good for me for that reason. Sometimes that first puff in the morning would kill my throat.

I am just totally surprised this works so well for me. I assumed I needed higher nicotine because I had smoked for so many years. It was a pleasant surprise. I am not so .... now about 0 nicotine. To reach that goal consistently I need more flavorings and to use up some of my higher nic juices to not be wasteful. But the juices I have been mixing lately are no more than 1 or 2mg. In other words future orders of juice will be 0 nic.

Everyone vapes for different reasons. For those of us whose craving for cigarettes was largely the motions and tinkering lower nicotine should work very well. I can be happy vaping 0nic or very low nic for the remainder of my days. And I probably will. My family and friends are very supportive of this which helps also.

But most importantly I don't expect to ever smoke a cigarette again. (except maybe an occasional for fun :) ) <--- is this proper punctuation? Smiley inside or outside the parenthesis?

OK, I need to get to sleep. I'm going out of town this weekend (my #2 son is graduating from high school) so I probably won't be around much. Don't burn down the house while I'm gone and clean up that blood from the carpet!

Nite everyone! Have a great, smoke-free weekend!

#2 son? are you by chance a Charlie Chan fan? He had alot of adventures with his "Numba won son". :) I call my two boys similar, usually with the faux oriental accent. :)

Fred's latest post wouldn't have been necessary if he'd had the balls the throw some temporary bannings (time-outs) to the most blatant abusive posters.

I disagree completely with the necessity that the ultimate goal eventually be toward complete nicotine cessation, since there are some who don't or can't share that as a goal, but are as just as committed to complete smoking abstinence as even the most zealous among them. Will he amend the policy when NRT products are approved for long-term/permanent use?

Edit to add: he's really just leaving the door open for the abuse to continue.

Hey, we may have to accept that some peoples kids just dont have the logic we do...survival of the fittest I guess. We say, "whatever keeps ya off the ciggies"...they say "hellfire and nicodemons"....I dont think we'll ever understand, and I think we all know, we'll never agree. Just keep our distance and hope it doesnt rub off. :S
But geez, can you imagine the fear these ppl have to even ASK a question now...the pm's these ppl write...just nonsense.
THAT being said...If you maintained a presence, and somehow make it known our "full time" forum, where these questions are welcomed, you might very well get a good amount of defects from there. And if their ways didnt change, eventually, they would be left with those that dont participate, and those with pitchforks, which really isnt all that many it seems.

I've got Vikings fans, Packers fans AND Bears fans in my family, all of which can sit in the same room and have a good time lightheartedly denigrating each others "method" to the super bowl. If THEY can get along, I'm sure there could be an acomodation made of some form.

We can disagree all we want, but I think Fred made it clear that nicotine cessation is the ultimate goal of that forum. eCigs are welcome in the discussion as long as they are used with that goal in mind. I disagree with that stance, but ultimately it's not my decision. Besides, I have THIS place to discuss all of the "funner" aspects of eCigs that help me to "forget" that I'm quitting smoking.

Fred did issue at least one ban (and multiple warnings). That said, I still feel that the abuse, flaming and general discord will continue. Eventually I think Fred will just say "ENOUGH!" and scrub any mention of eCigs from the forum.

Fred's latest post wouldn't have been necessary if he'd had the balls the throw some temporary bannings (time-outs) to the most blatant abusive posters.

Again, Fred made it _clear_ that e-cigs have their own place for "casual" use. So if you like making the statement of sticking around, go right ahead. But if you intend to effect change, that forum is not the place to do it. SEO number alone say they're losing the battle. Let them lose it in the market as e-cigs become a more visible and viable choice.

It's a sadly predictable conclusion.. hopefully it is concluded and doesn't blow up again .-Magnus

I'm like John and DC in this respect: I would like to make myself available to answer questions about how to use an ecig to quit smoking. I'd treat it a bit differently here at ECF than I would over at QSMB, since the focus for the forums is different.

Here we are OK if you want to continue using nicotine, nobody has to defend it one way or the other, to each his own.

At QSMB, I would like to be able to be frank about using a PV to stop smoking, then begin the discussion about nicotine. If you are really hard set against it, there is absolutely no reason to keep using nicotine in your PV. Some have made fun of the "$34.00 straw", but for the most part have nothing to say (and some even give encouragement) if you drop the nicotine.

Either way, the individual has quit smoking. I would like to advocate for MORE PV use myself, as Kristin's audio post mentioned "It's the smoke that kills you": Most of the "wanna quit" people have by and large quit smoking. What we are working with here are majority "LOVE TO SMOKE" people that won't quit, regardless of their health, until something viable fills that place in their life. Those are the hardest nuts for the cold turkey and NRT crews to crack, and the ones which PVs have the most promise in keeping them away from analogs.

I have always separated the nicotine from the PV hardware too, they can go together, but they do not have to. The PV is still a FANTASTIC tool with just VG and flavoring.

I hope DC2 will get a response to his PM that clears things up.

Here you go...

Hi DC,

Thank you for your thoughtful and respectful questions.

1) Would my reply about weaning at your own pace and on your own schedule be acceptable?

Yes, that would be acceptable. I would suggest always letting people know that your answers are based on your own personal experience.

2) What would you want my reply to be should I be asked about using the nicotine indefinitely?

I guess this is the sticky one, right? You can tell people what the official policy of this forum is or point them to it. You could certainly tout quitting completely as a way to save money.

Hope that helps.

Yes, I am here....have been for a long time. I did nothing wrong but respond to the ignorant posts over there. I am sorry that you feel I didn't accomplish anything or help but that's your prerogative. I think and speak for myself....don't follow the "mob mentality" over there OR here. Also, I didn't get a warning from Fred so that should tell you something.
It's funny because I remember your feelings in the beginning.

I guess they eventually got a little too far under your skin, huh?
Seems to me that some of those folks could easily get under the skin of a bowling ball.

Well, That forum segregates itself due to its own mentality...we know the fail rates, and the board will follow suite. But I doubt they will ever "see the light" and accept any other ways of thinking. Im back to thinking the only reason of sticking around would be to watch more and more defects move over to this board. That board is simply not a happy place..far too much hostility to be hospitable to anyone that doesnt immediately covert to their cult. Hate to put it in such harsh terms, but it just fits.
We will be forevermore treated like an unwelcome guest, or a stray dog there. So we can either bunker down, or seek higher ground.
It also makes me wonder..have these people really earned their right to be able to associate with people of OUR caliber??? Not so much. If we do stick around, we could be building their member base and following, and Im not so sure they deserve that, not to mention the possibilities of tarnishing our reputation a bit, with guilt by association. That place is a triple edged sword.

I do not plan to visit their board or participate in their board any longer. Even when the "regulars" there were playing nice it didn't seem very sincere. This will not be a drastic change for me because I have participated very little the past few days anyway.

I do hope the information on e-cigarettes is allowed to stay. That's enough for me and justifies the time and effort I put into this project.

I also hope this thread remains. I wouldn't care if QSMB was never mentioned again. LOL

Here you go...

Yup that helps. I'm taking that to mean we aren't supposed to say that it's our belief (if that's the case - not speaking for everyone here) that eliminating nicotine should be secondary to quitting smoking and doesn't have to be the ultimate goal.

Am I reading it wrong?

That's what I gleaned from it...

I know most of you are in bed...like normal people. After doing some soul searching I made a post that may or may not get me banned from the other board... it depends on how Fred takes it and how tough he wants to be... If it does get me banned and gets deleted and any of you want to read it I saved a copy so I can PM it to you because I felt it needed to be said.
Is it still there?
If so, can you point me to it?

If not, can you PM it to me?

Thanks!

Hey everybody,

Whoa - big changes since yesterday!

I think basically Fred has said that although he believes in harm reduction - in the interest of keeping the board from self destructing - he is taking the end all nicotine to be quit method as the main purpose of the board.

Ecig users are not allowed to talk about ecigs anywhere outside of the ecig subforum and any mention in any post of ecigs will be moved to the ecig subforum if it starts somewhere else.

Ecig users are not allowed to speak of harm reduction or a continuation of the use of nicotine anywhere on that site - including the subforum as that is not in keeping with the intent of his board.

I understand why he has done this, but I think he has ruined the chances at a new life for that board. I believe that he has done a disservice to those who could benefit from knowing about harm reduction.
