I think the Q board and I to a point sees E cigs users as a way of still getting nictine-so basically it seem you're still a slave to nictine like we were when we smoked.
Here's one of the biggest rubs that get alot of quitters (using other methods) dislike about ecigs, Big Chief's comment about envy is spot on, and this adds to it:
For any quitter OTHER THAN a pv quitter, there is only one place to relapse to that will leave you fully satisfied: smoking a cigarette.
A few folks will be able to bite a piece of nic gum, dunno if that really "satisfies" tho. Same for other forms of nic which aren't an ecig or a real cig.
In order to be able to rationalize/condone/accept the remotest possibility of any benefit an ecig could provide to an individual, an opponent would have to change their stance on nicotine, if only slightly. No change in attitude = no likey ecigs. (forgetting the zero nic option for the time being)
With no "FDA approved" step-down plan, it looks like we are all out in the garage freebasing nicotine (from their point of view). Puts us right there with the ppl in the hazmat suits cleaning up after a .... lab bust (in Iowa, unfortunately all too frequent with all of this anhydrous sitting around).
I can't count how many times I've seen: "I don't care what your quit method is", the problem is that without the nicodemon to be afraid of the foundations of their supposition collapse.
Every quitter that doesn't use an ecig could look at the "demon" and use that to put a face on smoking, and they've made the smoke and nicotine one and the same. Ecig users can still consider nicotine the "demon" if they wish, but the negative connotation translates into dependence on a chemical, not a chemical that assists in keeping you chained to cigarettes and all of the other chemicals that have been discussed at length the last few pages. The whole concept of nicotine == smoking is broken, and alot of former smokers are having trouble seeing and believing that.
To accept that nicotine won't drive you back to smoking, you'd have to be willing to entertain the possibility that an ecig could fill that gap in your life. I say "ecig by itself" because I rarely hear of individuals "running back" to the patch or gum. If you're gonna "run back", you're gonna grab a cig.
Unless you are an ecig user... then you have a different option to run back to, if that's how you look at nicotine (ab)use.
