I think the Q board and I to a point sees E cigs users as a way of still getting nictine-so basically it seem you're still a slave to nictine like we were when we smoked.

Here's one of the biggest rubs that get alot of quitters (using other methods) dislike about ecigs, Big Chief's comment about envy is spot on, and this adds to it:

For any quitter OTHER THAN a pv quitter, there is only one place to relapse to that will leave you fully satisfied: smoking a cigarette.

A few folks will be able to bite a piece of nic gum, dunno if that really "satisfies" tho. Same for other forms of nic which aren't an ecig or a real cig.

In order to be able to rationalize/condone/accept the remotest possibility of any benefit an ecig could provide to an individual, an opponent would have to change their stance on nicotine, if only slightly. No change in attitude = no likey ecigs. (forgetting the zero nic option for the time being)

With no "FDA approved" step-down plan, it looks like we are all out in the garage freebasing nicotine (from their point of view). Puts us right there with the ppl in the hazmat suits cleaning up after a .... lab bust (in Iowa, unfortunately all too frequent with all of this anhydrous sitting around).

I can't count how many times I've seen: "I don't care what your quit method is", the problem is that without the nicodemon to be afraid of the foundations of their supposition collapse.

Every quitter that doesn't use an ecig could look at the "demon" and use that to put a face on smoking, and they've made the smoke and nicotine one and the same. Ecig users can still consider nicotine the "demon" if they wish, but the negative connotation translates into dependence on a chemical, not a chemical that assists in keeping you chained to cigarettes and all of the other chemicals that have been discussed at length the last few pages. The whole concept of nicotine == smoking is broken, and alot of former smokers are having trouble seeing and believing that.

To accept that nicotine won't drive you back to smoking, you'd have to be willing to entertain the possibility that an ecig could fill that gap in your life. I say "ecig by itself" because I rarely hear of individuals "running back" to the patch or gum. If you're gonna "run back", you're gonna grab a cig.

Unless you are an ecig user... then you have a different option to run back to, if that's how you look at nicotine (ab)use.

I vape for several reasons:

1) keep myself occupied so I don't raid the refrigerator or pantry when I'm bored - I use 6mg nic most of the time, so I might also be getting the benefit of nicotine as an appetite suppressant, and I vape a lot of food flavors, no tobacco so I'm sure that helps as well
2) to help my concentration, and at my age concentrating isn't as easy as it once was - so bring on the higher nic for that since I do believe it helps
3) I liked the "smoke" aspect of smoking - so I really enjoy the vapor

So, if anyone thinks that's being a slave to nicotine, fine. I don't, I could find other replacements for 1 and 2 and 3 doesn't require nicotine. So I choose to use nicotine because for me it's a cheap and easy way to accomplish 1 and 2.

Sallie is whatever color she and her hairdresser decide at the moment. :p Currently it's dark brown with violet highlights.

And yes, I did just refer to myself in the 3rd person.

But... I was born a brunette, however that doesn't mean I can't be dumb on occasion. In my case though, it would be "dumb brown" not "dumb blond". :)

Commercial cigarettes have a whole lot of stuff in there. e-cigarettes are very new. While all the debating and speculating goes on, people who need some of the other stuff should, in my opinion, quietly obtain the substances requested by their particular biochemical configuration.

Not on point of this post but a thought popped in my head when I read it...

We keep hearing about e-cigarettes being new and not "FDA-approved." I can't help but wonder if the families of smokers who killed themselves and/or loved ones or had heart attacks on Chantix feel comforted by the fact that Chantix is FDA-approved. And all of the families of smokers who died from diseases related to smoking who kept relapsing back to smoking because of using FDA-approved NRTs, which the FDA claims are "safe and effective." It should bolsters my confidence in products which have the FDA seal of approval.

On the other hand, e-cigarettes have been on the market worldwide for nearly 8 years and in the U.S. around 4 years and other than that ridiculous claim in the UK, there have been no serious illnesses or no deaths attributed to e-cigarette use and a plethora of reports that smokers are quitting smoking almost effortlessly (cheapo e-cig brand users who never seek out better models aside.)

Yet Chantix is still available and e-cigarettes are still banned in some countries. Yep, secures my faith in the FDA approval process. Not.

Awww, that's sweet Randy! Thanks. :)

It's called a flat iron. My hair is super curly. To wear it straight is a choice. Or maybe I'm a slave to my flat iron? IDK.

What oh come on!
I'm the only one {I think} who has hair that requires a hairdresser to be tamed!

Careful...the worrywarts in the ECF health forums (the ones who want to attribute every little ache and pain to switching to vaping) will want to claim this is a known side effect!

Can someone thank katie for her little reminders that regardless of age, we can all act like were 3 yrs old, at will.

Not me! The only thing I post in response to her comments are a reminder of the forum rules. (And her posts are usually breaking one or more of them!!) Maybe if no one acknowledges her other than a reminder of the rules she'll give up and stay away from the e-cig area. (Wishful thinking, but a girl can dream....)

I think that's the best response to her and the others as well. There's no longer any point in arguing with them, and they aren't worth your time.
