There is another medical condition that I think can benefit from the use of a PV, Ulcerative Colitis. It seems that some of the people with this condition do not show symptoms until after they have quit smoking for a couple of months. The reason given is that the nicotine in the cigarette keeps the condition under control. Treatments vary but Corticosteroids seems to be a common therapy.

I corresponded with a lady who has UC and had been told by her doctor that nicotine has a positive influence on UC. She started using a nicotine patch. I asked if she had concerns about using nicotine and here is her answer,

“No side effects, addiction signs or concerns whatsoever. I am more concerned about the damaging effects that predisolone has had on my heart and bones. My doctor fully supports my trial and I am still in full remission after 4 months.
To me it’s a no brainer…..”

She has had to vary her nicotine strength to get to the right levels. It seems to me that a PV would be a great tool for this condition because you could find the right nicotine levels in one-mg increments.

You should talk to Meems. If I recall correctly, she uses an e-cig for that very reason.

ETA: I think DC and I are referring to the same person.

Does anyone know if CASSA has an "official" position on big pharma? Or is all the big pharma talk not part of the "mission statement"?
I can't speak for CASAA, but I am pretty sure I can guess their position.

They support the use of NRT products, but feel that the restrictions on those products are counter-productive in many cases.
They support longer-term use as needed, and the availability of higher strengths.

In other words, they think their products are mostly ineffective in their current form.
And I imagine they privately think they are way too expensive, and not worth the money.

And whether it's an official position or not, I am very certain they feel that Big Pharma is the enemy.
And when I say the enemy I mean in every way, shape, and form.

Oh, I know how they feel. I know how most of the ECF feels. I am looking for the official position, although I guess it probably doesn't matter now that I think about it. If everyone knows how they feel, it might as well be the official position.

It's a sad place.
But they are FREE and we don't know what that is like!!

Because none of us has ever been on a cold turkey quit before?
None of us has ever been free of the Nicodemon?

I guess we just haven't learned all the knowledge that Polito and Carr preach.
If only we could do that, we could find FREEDOM from ever wanting to light up again.

If their version of free means pledging every day to not have ONE SINGLE PUFF then count me out.
I'm a lot more free in that I don't even want a single puff, and never will again.

Sorry, just had to get a bit of lingering frustration out there.

I am on Indian land
They're too busy turning on each other right now.

I made the mistake of peeking in over there, and if I'm not mistaken, they are arguing about whether people who smoke a cigarette must re-set their quit calendars back to zero before or after the auto da fé.

At least they all seem to agree that such a person is tainted, stained, damaged goods, unmarriagable and generally unclean.

My wife and I lit up our monthly experimental cigarette yesterday, the fourth in four months. On the previous three we couldn't manage more than three puffs, this time it was only two before they both were stubbed out.

We were actually even a bit motivated to smoke this time, as we're in the middle of a very bad run of the G4 clearo's. The first ones we bought were excellent, these are garbage, almost every one is useless. I will not buy them again until I hear multiple positive reviews saying the problems are fixed.

Cheers

Bingo! You hit the nail squarely on the head on all points.
I would be very irritable too if I had that kind of fear constantly hanging over my head.

The thing is, they have essentially adopted what appears to be an AA approach to quitting smoking.
And they have adopted all that comes with that.

In the case of nicotine, I think that approach is severely misguided.
And in some cases, for some people, downright dangerous.

To this day I still don't know what Fred was thinking or what he wanted to become of all this.
It is one of the puzzles in my life that I may never solve.
