Time to wake this tread again with some random picture:

And no, I'm not vaping that port. Just doing some cross tasting.

Not sure yet. It absolutely is a nice big black impressive stick, with all kinds of buttons and an lcd screen and I've got a big tank, but at the moment I only have LR atty's and carto's around and the LT cuts these off to around 3.2 volt, no matter how high you set the voltage. So the LR stuff works better on my eGo and Riva batteries, which work consistently on something like 3.4 to 3.7 volt. I believe SR stuff can indeed get a significant boost from the LT, as the reviews seem to confirm this, but at the moment I only use the LT to scare innocent pedestrians and shoppers out of my way.

Maybe Madman can help me out, but anyone with some car knowledge is welcome to answer as well...

Car has been having a bit of an issue starting for the last week. I chalked it up to being very cold in the mornings. One day, would not start. Dead battery. Battery is less than 2 years old. Other symptoms, I upgraded my car stereo about 5 years ago... New head unit and two amps totaling about 1500 watts. When I installed the stereo, I upgraded the "big three." I've never had any issues with the stereo until this week. Get to a stop light, one of the amps would cut out. Hit the gas and all is well again.

At this point I'm thinking the alternator is going out. Car (Honda Civic) will be 8 years old next month. I broke out the voltmeter and tested the battery with the car off. Tested at ~12.5 V. Started the engine with no accessories on and tested at ~14.2. Turned on head lights, fans, rear defroster and stereo and tested again, this time at ~11.5. Side note: turning off the stereo didn't bring up the voltage. Am I correct in thinking the alternator is going out (at least one phase)?

yea nate that sounds like the regulator in the alternator is going out...on A side note maybe you should get a deep cycle and put it on a battery isolator for your amp...should keep you from having to go thru alternators...at least a power cap....yes I used to install systems too so that was a usual recommendation to anyone going over 600 watts w a secondary amp...also get a higher amp alternator...

That's what I figured. Problem is I can't seem to find how many amps the stock alternator on an '04 Civic EX puts out. Replacement alts according to AutoZone are ~70A.

I'm planning on getting a "smaller" secondary amp and sub. I only want to fill in the low end. I don't care for or need teeth rattling bass. On second thought, I'll just find a lower rated sub and bridge the two channels I'm not currently using on the first amp. Cleaner install all around.

Thanks for the input, Madman.

How's everyone's winter thus far?

I'm starting to re-think my strict "no snow" in the valleys policy. Turns out, since I have implemented it, while the valleys haven't received much snow (I think we've received a grand total of 1/2" at my house) the mountains haven't either. In the interest of all Utah ski resorts (and next year's water supply), I hereby revoke said policy. Let it snow!

We just got our first snowfall of the winter last Thursday. Total of 7 inches. I could have done without it considering it waited this long. At this point, I figure why bother. Bring on Spring.

Interesting... Sounds like you guys are well below your average as well.

Funny thing... Last year we got dumped on like you wouldn't believe. One of the wettest years on record. Some of the ski resorts were even open for 4th of July skiing. So far, this December was the driest on record and January isn't looking much better, though we do have some rain/snow in the forecast over the next few days. Of course, they said we should get 1-3 inches from the last storm and I didn't see a single flake (it snowed to the north and south though).
