I'm not sure how much of an outlandish idea this is, but if at all possible it sure would help!

I know the idea may seem unrealistic, it may very well be. If You look at the numbers of people on these forums, the number of people who actually support/use e-cigarettes, it may not be as unreal a idea as it seems.

But yeah, anyways...

The idea would be to bring electronic cigarettes to her attention. A very well educated e-cig supporter/user on her show, perhaps someone like Doctor Vapor. Getting that Dr.Oz guy educated on e-smoking could have a HUGE impact on our future in vaping.

Now I'm not saying we could just look up Oprah in the phone book and give her a ring (as She'd have everyone and their mother crying to her asking for money/help.) But... What if there was a unified way for our community as a whole to put in effort to get her attention? May it be through an Oprah message board, some kind of a contact through the network her show airs on, I'm not sure.

With what is going on in NY and other places right now, all I know is that we need BIG help. Not only do We need help, smokers out there that are blind to e-smoking need help.

While our numbers seem small as a community, compared to the population that just don't care. We do indeed have enough to gain the attention of a higher power, someone with a voice that has influence and power is what We need, in my opinion.

The problem with enlisting O, is if she DOSN'T like an idea. What she supports, she supports with everything she has. However, when she doesn't support something she can be quite ignorant on it, even if it's not an unhealthy alternative. Her opinions on gastric bypass surgery are an example.

A few more choices:

Real Time with Bill Maher

Try to avoid shows where they do a point/counterpoint evaluation like "The View". We're trying to get positive attention, not a +/- discussion that may actually blow up in our faces.

Also, stay away from controversial journalists like Bill Reilly or Rush Limbaugh. They might argue for us, but we don't need to instantly be hated by a journalists' opponents.

Oprah would be the one person that could swing it for E cigarette industry. She elected a President! I'm not a big fan of hers but I have to admit she is influential.

That could be the angle. She just loves O and I'm sure she'd like to see him get off smokes, so..... maybe. Plus you know she has his blackberry number.

20/20 did an expose on the FDA when they fought the Sensor Pad for 10 years. Might be a show to look at and they have a 'send us your stories' link on their website.

Bill Maher is a much better choice than Oprah. He is more of an iconoclast, and more likely to be receptive to a message that runs against "conventional wisdom."

How to actually reach out to anyone like this is another matter, of course.

Dr. Gupta's a fascinating, and I think very high-credibility prospect. (He might today be Surgeon General, having reportedly turned down an offer.)

Both Stewart and Maher have mentioned that they're reformed tobacco smokers, which might or might not help their credibility. Could be, though, that both are too polarizing. (Heck--I worry that several ECF members might quit vaping if they learned that either of those guys endorsed it... ;))
