No, they aren't Nazi's.
But they do seem, on the board linked to from here, to have found a way of quitting that has a lot to do with "breaking people down." Calling each other "junkies," dismissing another person's ideas as "junkie think," and generally shouting down anything that challenge the received wisdom, or their own view. Not a style I enjoy.
They also seem not to be interested in the facts. A "cut straw" isn't the same thing, or anything like as effective as, an E-cigarette. If you want to choose a cut straw, be my guest. But don't claim the same effect!
Also the nicotine ranting. Many on that forum have used the gum, the patch, etc. But they still rant about the e-cig because "nicotine is bad for you..."
I'm glad I'm on this forum, not that one.
I HAVE quit smoking. (No analogs for weeks. And it was so smooth a transition that I literally don't remember the date. Cause it was no big deal.)
I'm still
vaping nicotine. Haven't decided if/when I'll quit that.
That's the thing that they really don't get- quitting smoking, with no replacements, simply doesn't work for a lot of people. You can judge that, think it's bad, or call me weak. But the studies have been done to death- the percentage of smokers who successfully give up permanently by "just" quitting is abysmally low.
Using alternative nicotine consumption methods, like snus, ecigs, or what have you is MUCH more likely to succeed, and gives the same health benefits.
I'm tired of hearing "but you're still hooked."
Of course I'm still hooked. I've been hooked all my life, or at least for so long that the time before I got hooked is pretty irrelevant.
But now I'm hooked without killing myself. That HAS to be a good thing, right?
But to a lot of people, it isn't.
Looks like smoking, it IS smoking.
Sigh,
