E-Cigs are really looked down upon by recent quitters.

The last time I tried to quit smoking I joined a few quit smoking forums which I won't mention the names of them. Every now and then when I am bored I will jump over on the forums and see what has been going on. I never post or reply anymore though. The majority of people over there bash the heck out of e-cigs. Funny thing is; I was one of those people last year who knew nothing of e-cigs and thought that e-cigs were just a gimmick. I was so wrong!!!! I didn't even take the time to really learn about them before I started bashing them! Glad my hubby took the initiative to learn more about e-cigs! vaping has been the easiest, most pleasant way to give up cigarettes and I am so glad that I gave it a chance!

No, they aren't Nazi's.

But they do seem, on the board linked to from here, to have found a way of quitting that has a lot to do with "breaking people down." Calling each other "junkies," dismissing another person's ideas as "junkie think," and generally shouting down anything that challenge the received wisdom, or their own view. Not a style I enjoy.

They also seem not to be interested in the facts. A "cut straw" isn't the same thing, or anything like as effective as, an E-cigarette. If you want to choose a cut straw, be my guest. But don't claim the same effect!

Also the nicotine ranting. Many on that forum have used the gum, the patch, etc. But they still rant about the e-cig because "nicotine is bad for you..."

I'm glad I'm on this forum, not that one.

I HAVE quit smoking. (No analogs for weeks. And it was so smooth a transition that I literally don't remember the date. Cause it was no big deal.)

I'm still vaping nicotine. Haven't decided if/when I'll quit that.

That's the thing that they really don't get- quitting smoking, with no replacements, simply doesn't work for a lot of people. You can judge that, think it's bad, or call me weak. But the studies have been done to death- the percentage of smokers who successfully give up permanently by "just" quitting is abysmally low.

Using alternative nicotine consumption methods, like snus, ecigs, or what have you is MUCH more likely to succeed, and gives the same health benefits.

I'm tired of hearing "but you're still hooked."

Of course I'm still hooked. I've been hooked all my life, or at least for so long that the time before I got hooked is pretty irrelevant.

But now I'm hooked without killing myself. That HAS to be a good thing, right?

But to a lot of people, it isn't.

Looks like smoking, it IS smoking.

Sigh,
Ande

Well I decided to post a message up just to see if they would approve it. Maybe they will. Who knows. I just told my story really.

Here is what I posted
Hi guys I'm new here. Happy to meet you all. I quit back in October of 2010. I had been a pack/pack and a half a day smoker for 16 years. The last two of which I was rolling my own pipe tobacco. Horrible stuff. I had never had breathing problems until then. I started getting broncitis every few months and was hitting an inhaler once or twice every night. I'm 32.

Seven months ago I decided I had to stop. My health was getting really bad and I was wheezing a lot. So I picked up my pv had bought a year before but didn't use. Decided to finally give it a good try. Awesome. Worked well but I needed something with a stronger hit if I was going to really stay off the smokes, so I got a better model. Was vaping 24 milligrams for a while and worked my way down to 18mg. Then in January of this year I got sick with the flu and quit using my pv for two or three weeks. Decided I wanted to go back to using it but was already off the nicotine. So I started mixing my own liquid in 0 nic level and used that for a few months. Then about a month and a half ago I got the urge to get back on the nicotine. I just really enjoy it and the throat hit it gives. So I started mixing liquid with 18 and 12mg or nic in it. Feels great again.

It's wonderful being able to taste, smell and breath again. I haven't had any wheezing or breathing problems in the last five and a half months. I haven't had to touch the inhaler at all and my doctor says I'm doing so much better. Best of all, no urge to touch a cigarette at all. In fact I can't stand even smelling them now. So now I have all the perks or smoking (accept I also vape at work in the office at my desk) without any of the drawback and I'm doing so much better in terms of my health.

Anyway that's my story. Glad to be here. :)

I did the search on the word electronic and found that nasty "Stephanie" in all his/her hate-speech glory. The laughable part was the signature, which read:

"We are all Brothers
None goes his way alone
What we bring into the lives of others
Comes back into our own

my first free moment was 10/18/05 at 11:58 pm.
a very fine moment, and I did not even know it then."

Oh, the hypocrisy!
