e juice and carto help please

Hi, I got my new 510 today and also some boge standard cartos, I have some 50/50 menthol tobacco juice and I tried to use it in one of the cartos but all I get is a burning taste and no vapour, I tried leaving it a bit longer but it made no difference. I have some mostly pg juices that are working fine. Do you think it is because it is too thick for them or should I have let it soak in overnight or something?
I think it is probably ruined now but I don't want to waste another one if the juice is no good for these cartos.
Maybe I should just keep the juice for carts instead.

Hi Holly, Welcome to the forum. From what you describe it sounds like you didn't fill it enough with juice, and maybe didn't let it sit long enough. 50/50 juice is pretty thick stuff. I usually initially fill Boge cartos with about 20-25 drops of juice, and let it sit for about 1/2 hour thereafter. However, I also use 70PG/30VG juice, not 50/50. A lot of people do use higher VG juice though, and have success.

Also, while you can use a syringe to fill, I use the "condom" method. Here is a PBusardo video on his filling technique:

Finally, make sure that the center tube is cleared out. You should be able to see light at the end of the tunnel when you look into it.

Try it again, and hopefully you'll have success.

Hi,
I did use the condom method and got quite a lot into it but i tried it within about 2 minutes so i think that's where i went wrong.
Do you think it is ruined now or should i try cleaning it out and try again?
The mostly pg juice is a lot thinner and it worked straight away.

If you didn't try to vape on it for very long, then it might be saveable. VG juice does take a while to disperse through the filler so that it will wick to the coil. 2 minutes does not sound like it's long enough. Again, though, make sure that it appears slushy on top and the center hole is cleared out.

I will leave it tonight and maybe top it up in the morning and try again.
If that doesn't work i will empty it and clean it then try again.

If it's a brand new carto I would not think that you would want to "clean" it right now to try it again. The filler is fluffiest and most absorbant when it's new. Just let it sit for a while, and try it this afternoon.

if you drip into the filler from the top until you get a drop out the bottom (threaded end) then you know its full and will not taste burnt. just make sure you dont drip straight into the center hole.

From my experience, once a carto gives off a burnt taste.. it's toast and I toss it.

If you don't want to add more PG try adding distilled water- just a drop or 2. It has to be distilled, not boiled water.

I frequently use 50/50 mixes in my cartos, and I use lots of different brands/styles. When filling a new carto, I pop the mouth side cap off, use the condom method by pushing the battery connector end into the e-liquid. If you watch the top of the carto while doing this, you will be able to tell if the carto is being filled all the way. Your carto is filled when the top of the carto looks slushy. Make sure you blow into the carto to clear the center tube before using the carto. I usually use a newly filled carto right away.

Also, I agree that once your carto gets a burnt taste to it, it's best just to toss it. The burnt taste is more than likely a result of a dry spot in the filling that became charred.

I use only heavy vg blends and I've learned FOR ME the perfect way to fill my cartos. I pop that rubber end cap off (the thingy that looks like rubber cheerios for baby tires and such), load up a syringe and proceed to fill the carto without penetrating the filler. As soon as it looks slushy, I pop the condoms back on the carto as well as replace the rubber end cap, throw the carto in to the badge holder part of my work lanyard and spin that lanyard like Crocodile Dundee for about 10 seconds. Take the condoms off, check for saturation on the filler and if still looking dry drip some more juice and repeat. Again, this is the perfect way FOR ME as I don't have to wait for my VG based liquid to fully saturate the carto.
