"electronic cigarettes are not allowed"

Wow... That's the first I have heard of TSA saying no electronic cigs. That is alarming.... I have been lucky with no issues so far with my eGo and PCC. I usually pull them out and put it in the bin, and have not had an issue yet. I have not tried the coffee trick... Coffee would give me cravings to vape :) I have not tried to vape in a plane yet, and most of my flights are 2-3 hours with a layover somewhere (What is a direct flight).

Hope New Years brings more visibility and awareness.....

I was surprised that the TSA could refuse to allow you to take an ecig onboard. Do they now refuse to allow smokers to take their analogues onboard???

The USE of an ecig may not be permitted, just the same as smoking onboard is not permitted. I would have thought a lighter would be more of a risk to the plane than a battery and atty.

Coffee flavoured juice, or unflavoured juice, works well for stealth vaping in conjunction with the cuppa.

There seems to be a lot of variation on their stance depending on who you ask....I have not had any other issues with them since but again, the only time a TSA agent mentioned that they weren't allowed thru security i had a big Leo fully assembled and stupidly answered truthfully about what it was. From that point on i never kept one that was fully assembled. They only seem to really notice the bigger battery models anyway. I couldn't find anything in the official TSA regulations about them at all so i guess it's another one of those areas where they leave it to the agent's knowledge and choice.....

I assumed it was more of a "risk of fire" issue than a smoking one, but who knows what the TSA is thinking, or if they even are thinking.... probably they are all too busy pattin' people's junk.

I've been flying a fair amount lately, and have had no problems with airport security. I do only fly with kr8s and a PCC just to avoid explanations. However, many airlines, including Delta and Southwest expressly prohibit e-cig use while on the plane. Delta's pre-flight announcement prohibits all "smokeless tobacco" use. Vaping on a plane could create a whole lot of hassle for you.

I have flown with no problems with penstyles, passthroughs and ego. I traditionally pack tube mods and batts that I don't plan to use on the plane. I've been tested for residue once and it didn't take much time.

I had a convo with a nice TSA officer (I know, right?) who told me to always break things down and put them in baggies.

If someone notices you vaping it is extremely likely they will complain. If someone complains, you will be told to put it away. I try to be discrete and not draw any attention to my vaping. I used to bring nic gum just in case, until I realized that if I'm stuck where I cant vape, a bit of nic juice on the inside of the wrist works just as well.

I just ran into a very uninformed cocky flight attendent. I was stealth vaping an next thing I know, excuse me sir no smoking. I tried to inform him politely that I am not smoking an that I am producing nothing more then water vapor an that i was doing noting illegal. He did not want to hear any of it an said can you not read the sign No smoking! So I guess I will be making frequent trips to the bathroom. Non of the passengers around me complained in fact many were inquisitive and said they would like to try it.

Guys, maybe a renegade TSA agent, but I can assure you all E-cigs are allowed through security.

Unless you run into one of those "renegade" agents, apparently. There's no effective appeal for this kind of thing, so a denial at the security gate is the effective policy, no matter what someone put down in a document in some office somewhere. One of the (many) issues I have with what we ironically call the Transportation Security Administration. As a vapor who doesn't want random strangers fondling my body, rifling through the underwear in my suitcase, or taking my stuff on a whim, they don't make me feel very secure.

I just opened my suitcase to find a friendly notification that my bag had been searched as well as a complete disarray of my belongings (they were strapped down) I guess my PureSmoker PT looked to much like a detonation device and I guess my juices were explosive. I understand the need for safety but at least repack it nicely. Guess I should be lucky they didn't take it considering PS no longer makes them

Just returned from going to Washington and had no problems. I took 4 egos and 6 atomizers in my samba case. Atomizers on one side and batteries on the other. Samba case in my purse, went through scanner without any questions. E-liquids in with the shampoo in quart size baggie-no problems. Easy peazy-LOL

Lucky you. I've had nothing but problems other than at the airports

Since this thread is still alive I figured I would post the actual response I got from the TSA when I inquired as to why my Leo was not allowed thru security when ECigs are not on the list of prohibited items.... FWIW...

From: TSA-ContactCenter@dhs.gov
To: edited--email-address
Subject: Re: TSA Contact Us: Passenger and Traveler Information <<#410321-211684#>>

Thank you for your e-mail.

Since we cannot be sure of the exact threat level at your departure facility at the time of your experience it is not possible for us to specifically respond to why your items were not allowed through the checkpoint.

The Transportation Security Administration's current security screening procedures require all carry-on luggage and accessible property be screened before passengers take them onboard an aircraft. Regardless of whether an item is on the prohibited or permitted items list, the Transportation Security Officers (TSO's) have discretion to prohibit an individual from carrying an item through the screening checkpoint or onboard an aircraft if he or she believes the item poses a security threat.

....... edited (the rest was just standard TSA policy stuff)......

I'm not sure what airlines you are talking about, but the vast majority absolutely do NOT allow vaping inflight.(yes, most airlines are saavy to what that is but can't afford to tolerate it) It is clearly stated on most major airlines' websites list's of do's and dont's. Not to mention the fact that with our heightened level of security and threat of more no-see-um bomber attacks, seeing what appears to be smoke coming from someone's seat is liable to turn the flight into a nightmare for everyone. But hey, I break the rules too. I just do it in the bathroom;)

My last flight out of Manchester NH was interesting. I was on the first flight of the day so the airport was almost empty. When I went through security they sent through my bag to find my PV and all my stuff for it (along with all my other electronic stuff). That prompted a question (what it this). So I started to explain and another TSA agent wanted to see it work. When I exhaled three other TSA agents came over thinking I was smoking. In the end I ended up giving a short class on my PV, how it works, benefits, etc. I gave out my generic email address for those interested. I ended up getting 3 requests for more information. They were excited as they were smokers but found it hard to smoke at work. Now they vape with no problems. I wish it were always this easy to educate people and get them to understand.
