Thanks for you input guys! Work has been pretty turbulent lately, and I already kind of have a reputation as someone who's not afraid to rock the boat. I'm not sure if I want to further that on a lost cause, and the more I think about the management there the more I think thats what it would be.

What gets me most is that it's never really been an issue of using it inside. I rarely used mine at my desk, and even less often in any public area. Me and another vaper had been going to a shady spot right outside the back door. I'm sure we didn't get any complaints, anyone who ever paid any interest always seemed to think they were pretty cool. I suspect that someone in management saw it and just felt the need to make a rule for it.

Brewlady that brochure is excellent. Maybe I'll just drop a couple off with management so they have the info and see if they have a change of heart on their own. For now I'll just keep taking my afternoon bathroom breaks and try to keep my head down

:glare: Never been very good at that lol

I think Gordon Grape nailed it.
Sounds like either a fanatic anti-smoker complained to HR, or is in HR. The most I would be comfortable asking at this point is if you can smoke closer to the building and avoid the smoking area/hut.

It's usually 25-50 feet from the building by city ordinance (depends on city). I saw 100 feet too.

Keep in mind that anti-smoking types really don't care about your health or health in general. By anti-smoking types, I mean the fanatics that run around harassing people. You could provide medical evidence that vaping is beneficial to your health and they would still hate you for it.

The tell here is your HR people made clear it is not a health issue. They are "taking a stand on smoking" which means there's a fanatic in there somewhere. You'll never win with that type of person. Unless you don't need the job, the wise thing to so is drop it and thank them for their concern.

I agree that you should drop the matter entirely unless you hold a whole lot of clout. When HR said "We are taking a stance against cigarettes" it has become a moral issue, not one of health. So even if you brought in expert testimony from leading physicians around the world, you are not likely to be able to change their opinion. They see it as a crutch and don't want anything to do with it.

Interesting. Hadn't really thought of it like that, but it makes a lot of sense.

I just go in the bathroom at my job and vape away lol. So far I have not had any complaints

I do the same but got complains from smokers because we are not allowed to take a "smoke brake" or smoke on premises.

Thats pretty much what I've been doing since they cracked down on 'em. Then I look up after a couple good rips and realize it looks like snoop dogg is taking a dump in there thanks to the poor air circulation

Blow the vapor straight at the wall/door, it should dissipate before it goes over the stall.

Since you are not using a cigarette, and since you are not smoking, you could argue on those grounds. I work in a tobacco free environment, and several of us vape somewhat openly at our desks, although I only vape openly when there are just a couple of approving people around. I also like the suggestion from the person who said that you do not wish to be forced to share space with smokers. The HR at your business is trying to harm your health by forcing you to stand in 2nd hand smoke.

Interesting thoughts. I was "management", now retired. I didn't have a problem with vaping in the office, as long as people used common sense and didn't vape in front of the public. I received the most complaints from smokers! They didn't think it was fair. They had to go outside etc. etc. I told them they were more than welcome to switch to a PV and vape inside! :)

maybe get CASAA or some other pro vape groups to start talking to OSHA and demand separate places for people who vape.
We should not be forced to subject ourselves to the dangers of second hand smoke because the work place does not understand what vaping is.
where i work, smokers are forced into a thing like a sheltered bus stop that comfortably holds 10 people, but usually has 20. Currently I am forced to go there for vaping, I smell like cigs again.
(though i do stealth vape inside whenever i get the chance)

I should know this (since I am signed up w/CASAA) but is it ok to reprint and hand out the PDF's you supplied?
Thanks for them.

Yes, definitely! From CASAA's website:

CASAA.org is full of resources for those interested in finding out more about reduced harm alternatives to smoking. Here you can find links to lab reports, published scientific journal articles, legal documents such as the federal case involving the FDA, legislative informational packets, CASAA press releases and articles, new articles, downloadable flyers and information cards, medical information, glossaries and other supporting documents.

All we ask is that you credit the original writers, publishers and this site. It would also be helpful if you present CASAA with your findings so that we may include them on this site.
The resources page is here:

Doesn't that give you a great idea for when you're ready to leave that company. On your last day there, walk into HR with a 6v box mod and fill the room with smoke and tell them it's not a cigarette or an ecigarette it's a box mod and walk out.

It's definately someone that has a bug up thier ...., I'd stealth vape or use the company time to go outside and be unproductive.
